Abstract

The life-saving flying suit, especially for pilots who eject over water, is composed of a waterproof woven fabric (1) containing an air-permeable zone at the chest, with a ventilation channel (3) of an airtight material. The channel runs through the interior of the garment to give an air exchange between the air-permeable zone and the ambient atmosphere (7). The end (4) of the channel at the air-permeable zone is fastened to the inner side (11) of the fabric by a bonding seam (10), which is impermeable to water and air. The channel is filled with an air-permeable distance piece (12), to prevent the inner channel walls(13) sticking together.

Description

The invention relates to a protective suit according to the preamble of claim 1.

In the case of known emergency rescue suits for pilots, an emergency exit from the aircraft in flight causes the problem that when the cockpit opens, due to the rapid drop in pressure on the actual altitude pressure, the lifeguard suit is first inflated and then compressed again. Inflation of the protective suit can also occur during decompression in the cockpit of the aircraft, which can occur, for example, in the ascent phase of the aircraft or in the event of a failure of the pressure control system. The heavy swelling of the suit can cause the pilot to become immobilized because the sleeves and legs of the suit become stiff. The pilot may therefore no longer be able to control the aircraft and in particular to take a dive. Furthermore, in the known Lifeboat suits occur similar problems in a dive, because shrinks the suit together and narrows the freedom of movement of the pilot considerably. The reason for the swelling or shrinking of the suit is that the fabric of the suit is both waterproof and airtight. This is necessary in order to give the pilot adequate protection against moisture and cold, especially when getting out of the water. Furthermore, it is required that the rescue suit can protect the pilot from fire, which is why the suits are usually made of a flame retardant fabric.

A protective suit for pilots is out US 4 633 526 known.

Object of the present invention is to provide a protective suit for pilots, in which an undesirable swelling or shrinkage of the suit is avoided in a pressure change.

This object is achieved with a protective suit having the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the protective suit can be found in the dependent claims.

According to the invention, the protective suit is formed of a waterproof fabric, in which an air-permeable zone is incorporated and a venting channel formed of an airtight material is provided, which in the interior of the protective suit is connected at one end to the air-permeable zone and the another, designed as an orifice end opens into the interior of the suit to allow air exchange between the interior of the suit and the environment. In a pressure change in the environment, for example in the cockpit of the aircraft, so that a pressure equalization between the inside of the suit and the environment is possible, whereby an undesirable inflation of the suit is avoided.

In order to prevent the ingress of water through the air-permeable zone into the interior of the protective suit during a sea rescue, the mouth of the venting channel is preferably arranged so that it is above the chest area when the protective suit is applied, preferably in the region of the shoulder or the collar. If water should penetrate through the air-permeable zone into the inside of the suit, this water can still not run into the inside of the suit, as long as the mouth of the vent channel is above the water surface. An additional protection against the ingress of water into the inside of the suit provides a water-absorbing medium, which is introduced in a preferred embodiment of the suit in the ventilation duct, in particular in the vicinity of the air-permeable zone. When water penetrates through the air-permeable zone, this water-absorbing medium absorbs the penetrating water and in this way prevents water from entering the interior of the suit. Only when the water-absorbing medium is saturated, there is a risk of water entering the inside of the suit. The water-absorbing medium is preferably a polymer which forms a hydrogel on contact with water.

In a preferred embodiment of the protective suit, the end of the venting channel communicating with the air-permeable zone is secured to the inside of the fabric by a water and airtight connection, in particular a seam sealed with polyurethane welding tapes.

In order to prevent the inner walls of the ventilation channel from sticking together, in a preferred exemplary embodiment of the protective suit, an air-permeable spacer material is inserted into the ventilation channel. The inner walls of the venting channel are preferred made of polyurethane-coated polyamide. The air-permeable zone in the waterproof fabric of the suit is formed for example by a closable with a zipper opening. Even with the zipper closed, an air passage through the zipper is guaranteed. The fabric from which the protective suit is made is preferably a flame retardant laminate which is permeable to water vapor but airtight.

FIG. 3:
Preferred embodiment of the portion of the protective suit of FIG. 2 ,

The FIG. 1 shows a one-piece pilot suit of a waterproof fabric 1. The fabric 1 is a flame-retardant, three-ply laminate with a basis weight of about 245 g / m 2 . The fabric 1 meets in particular Index 3 in the examination and assessment of flame retardancy according to EN 532/533. To ensure the best possible wearing comfort, the fabric 1 is permeable to water vapor.

In the chest area of the suit, an air-permeable zone 2 is incorporated into the watertight and air-impermeable fabric 1. This air-permeable zone 2 is in the in FIG. 1 illustrated embodiment of a zipper 15 formed. This zipper is a conventional zipper with two rows of coupling elements 16, 17, which engage with the zipper closed ( FIG. 2 ). The coupling elements of the two rows of coupling elements 16, 17 are respectively attached to the outer ends of cloth bands 18, 19. The zipper 15 is thus designed to be permeable to air.

How out FIG. 2 the edges of the cloth bands 18 and 19 lying opposite the rows of coupling elements 16, 17 are sewn on the outside of the fabric 1 and bridge an opening 24 in the fabric 1. The two fabric bands 18, 19 of the zipper 15 are followed by two stocking strips on the outside of the suit 20, 21 made of textile fabric. This stocking strips 20, 21 and the bands 18, 19 of the zipper 15 are sewn by sealed seams 10 on the outside of the fabric 1. The seams 10 are sealed by polyurethane welding bands.

How out FIG. 2 it can be seen, joins in the interior 6 of the suit under the opening 24 in the fabric 1 to a wall 22 enclosed space 23 at. The wall 22 is formed of an air- and waterproof material, such as plastic, in particular polyurethane-coated polyamide. The wall 22 is attached to the inside 11 of the fabric 1 via sealed seams 10. The wall 22 and the inner side 11 of the fabric 1 thus enclose a cavity 23 which, with the exception of the air-permeable zone 2 formed by the zipper 15, is air-tight and watertight with respect to the environment 7.

He is in FIG. 2 Room 23 located below the opening 24 merges into a venting channel 3 which extends from the chest area of the suit to approximately the shoulder 8 or the collar inside the protective suit ( FIG. 1 ). The vent channel 3 is tubular, wherein the tube walls are formed of the same material as the wall 22 of the cavity 23 and merge into one another. The located in the shoulder 8 and 9 of the collar end of the venting channel 3 is formed as an orifice 5, that this end of the venting channel 3 opens into the interior of the suit. The other end 4 of the venting channel 3 is located in the region of the space 23 and communicates with the air-permeable zone 2, that is in particular with the opening 24, in connection. In this way, an air exchange between the environment 7 and the interior 6 of the protective suit over the air-permeable zone 2 and through the venting channel 3 is ensured up to the mouth 5.

In order to prevent the inner walls 13 of the ventilation channel 3 from adhering to one another, an air-permeable spacer material 12 is introduced into the ventilation channel 3. This spacer material may be, for example, a foamed plastic or a nonwoven.

In the region of the space 23, in particular near the air-permeable zone 2, a water-absorbing medium 14 is introduced into the venting channel 3. This medium may be, for example, a polymer which forms a hydrogel on contact with water. This water-absorbing medium acts on entry of water through the air-permeable zone 2, ie in particular through the water-permeable zipper 15 and the opening 24, like a sponge and absorbs the incoming water. This avoids that when entering the water through the air-permeable zone 2, the water that has entered can flow through the venting channel 3 into the interior 6 of the suit. Only when the water-absorbing medium is saturated with moisture, the water that has entered can reach the upper area of the ventilation channel 3 and the mouth 5. When using superabsorbent media 14, the pilot can therefore be up to several hours in the water without water can penetrate through the vent channel 3 in the suit inside 6.

The FIG. 3 shows a preferred embodiment of the protective suit. Opposite the in FIG. 2 illustrated embodiment, this differs by an additional cover film 25 which is applied to the water-absorbing medium 14 in the region below the opening 24. The cover film 25 is impermeable to water and air and formed, for example, from a plastic film. In its edge regions it projects beyond the edges of the opening 24 and it is attached to these edge regions with the water-absorbing medium, for example by means of seams or adhesive strips. Should the water-absorbing medium 14 have reached saturation due to ingress of water, the water-absorbing medium 14 swells and thereby presses the covering film 25 into the region of the opening 24 and against the zipper 15. This prevents further penetration of water through the zipper 15.
