Bei den bekannten Seenotrettungsanzügen für Piloten tritt bei einem Notausstieg aus dem im Flug befindlichen Flugzeug das Problem auf, dass bei einer Öffnung des Cockpits aufgrund des raschen Druckabfalls auf den tatsächlichen Höhendruck der Seenotrettungsanzug zunächst aufgebläht und anschließend wieder zusammengepresst wird. Zu einem Aufblähen des Schutzanzuges kann es ferner bei einer Dekompression im Cockpit des Flugzeuges kommen, welche beispielsweise in der Aufstiegsphase des Flugzeugs oder bei einem Ausfall der Druckregelanlage kommen kann. Das starke Aufblähen des Schutzanzuges kann dazu führen, dass der Pilot bewegungsunfähig wird, weil die Ärmel und Beine des Schutzanzuges steif werden. Der Pilot ist deshalb möglicherweise nicht mehr in der Lage, das Flugzeug zu steuern und insbesondere in einen Sturzflug zu bringen. Weiterhin treten bei den bekannten Seenotrettungsanzügen ähnliche Probleme bei einem Sturzflug auf, denn schrumpft der Schutzanzug zusammen und engt die Bewegungsfreiheit des Piloten beträchtlich ein. Der Grund für das Aufblähen bzw. Zusammenschrumpfen des Anzuges ist darin zu sehen, dass das Gewebe des Anzugs sowohl wasser- als auch luftdicht ausgebildet ist. Dies ist erforderlich, um dem Piloten, insbesondere bei einem Ausstieg über Wasser, ausreichenden Schutz vor Nässe und Kälte zu geben. Einen zusätzlichen Schutz gegen das Einlaufen von Wasser in das Anzuginnere bietet ein wasserabsorbierendes Medium, welches bei einem bevorzugten Ausführungsbeispiel des Schutzanzugs im Lüftungskanal, insbesondere in der Nähe der luftdurchlässigen Zone, eingebracht ist. Bei Eindringen von Wasser durch die luftdurchlässige Zone saugt dieses wasserabsorbierende Medium das eindringende Wasser auf und verhindert auf diese Weise ein Einlaufen von Wasser in das Anzuginnere. Erst wenn das wasserabsorbierende Medium gesättigt ist, besteht die Gefahr des Eindringens von Wasser in das Anzuginnere.
