Definitions
- the invention relates to the generation of UVA radiation with a phosphor according to the preamble of claim 1.
- UVA radiation can be generated by phosphors if they have been excited with shorter, wavy radiation. It is known to excite aluminate phosphors with conventional UV radiation from a low-pressure mercury discharge, that is to say from an Hg discharge (main excitation wavelength of approximately 254 nm). Reference is made to US 4 216 408, US 4 153 572 and US 4088922.
- the invention is based on the technical problem of specifying an expanded possibility for generating UVA radiation with a phosphor.
- the invention relates to the use of an aluminate phosphor described in more detail in claim 1 for excitation with short-wave UV radiation with a wavelength below 200 nm, so-called VUV radiation.
- the invention is also directed to a discharge lamp with the phosphor described, which is designed for VUV excitation of the phosphor, to a tanning device with such a discharge lamp and to the use of such a discharge lamp for photocatalytic cleaning.
- aluminate phosphor generally described in claim 1 is known as a substance. However, it was not previously known that this phosphor can be excited well in the VUV range. Rather, it has been assumed that the excitability decreases towards short UV wavelengths.
- the phosphor is generally characterized by the empirical formula Ce a -cYbRcMgdAl 11 O 1 6.5 + ⁇ , 5 (a + b) -0.5c + d, where R stands for Ba, Ca and / or Sr and for a, b, c, d applies: 0.14 ⁇ a ⁇ 1.00, 0 ⁇ b ⁇ 0.35, 0 ⁇ c ⁇ 0.5a, 0.45 ⁇ d ⁇ 2, a + b ⁇ l.
- the invention also relates to various preferred higher lower limits or lower upper limits for the parameters a, b, c and d, which are reproduced below:
- the O portion can deviate somewhat from the specified parameter 11, for example go to about 12.
- the excitation can preferably take place with a wavelength in the range between 145 and 185 nm, because the phosphor shows a favorable course of the excitability curve in this range.
- Such radiation can be generated, for example, by an Xe excimer discharge.
- Such discharges have been generated in the past few years with dielectrically impeded discharges, for which reference is made to the relevant prior art.
- the dielectrically impeded discharges can be generated with a particularly high degree of efficiency using a pulsed operating method, in that typical discharge structures with a comparatively low current density are formed which, moreover, enable radiation that is both homogeneous in terms of time and location.
- US Pat. No. 5,714,835. If an Xe excimer discharge, for example of Xe 2 *, is used in this way, molecular band radiation in the range of approximately 172 nm occurs, that is to say in the preferred excitation range mentioned. This radiation affects the range of the optimal excitability of the phosphor according to the invention relatively well.
- a preferred aspect of the invention is directed to the fact that the UVA radiation generated by the described phosphor is used to excite a further phosphor.
- This can be of interest if, on the one hand, a certain UVA-stimulable phosphor is of interest, and on the other hand, the advantages of, for example, a pulsed dielectric barrier discharge are to be exploited.
- This is also of interest if a phosphor is to be excited at a point to which the discharge that generates the VUV radiation cannot be coupled directly.
- the VUV radiation is strongly absorbed by air and can therefore can only be relayed by vacuum. However, this does not apply to UVA radiation.
- UVA radiation can be generated with the phosphor according to the invention via a VUV excitation and this UVA radiation from the UVA lamp thus formed are transferred from the air or possibly other media to the UVA-stimulable phosphor.
- This can be of interest if the known advantages of a dielectrically impeded discharge compared to a conventional Hg discharge are of interest. These advantages include the fact that the luminance of the discharge is hardly temperature-dependent, so there is practically no start-up behavior and the discharge lamps also have an extraordinarily high switching stability and service life.
- the UVA range in question is at wavelengths of around 300-380 nm.
- the invention relates not only to the use of the aluminate phosphor described for excitation with short-wave UV radiation (wavelength ⁇ 200 nm), but also to discharge lamps in which VUV excitation can take place and that with the aluminate phosphor described are provided.
- Such discharge lamps can find various preferred applications. They can be designed, for example, as a signaling device or, in the manner described, as an excitation source for a display operated with UVA-stimulable phosphors. But they can also be designed as UVA emitters, for example for a tanning device that should also be protected. In the case of sunlamps, solariums and comparable tanning facilities, UVA radiation is required and is also available the flat design achievable with dielectrically disabled discharge lamps. In addition, a precise control of the emitted dose is necessary there, so that the start-up behavior of conventional discharges is disruptive. In addition, a long service life and very good maintenance are of interest in this area of application. In addition, for environmental reasons, it is desirable not to bring the element Hg into circulation in products wherever possible.
- Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of the aforementioned UVA lamp for photocatalytic cleaning. Namely, it has been shown that this UVA lamp is particularly suitable for this, in particular if titanium oxide is used as the catalyst. Such a catalyst is suitable for breaking up carbon compounds, in particular soot, when irradiated with the UVA lamp.
- the curve is normalized in the usual way to the values of Na salycilate.
- the irregular curve at around 165 nm is measurement-related and results from an overload due to the resonance peak of the exciting deuterium lamp. It can clearly be seen that the excitability drops sharply between 230 nm and 220 nm, as was already known per se. However, it rises again between 200 nm and 180 nm to values that are practically equivalent to those in the range around 250 nm.
- the excitability is very high, especially in the wavelength range of interest for the Xe 2 * discharge. In contrast, the drop to lower wavelengths below 150 nm plays no role.
- ⁇ stands for the radiation flux, namely for the new lamps, after 100 operating hours, 500 operating hours and 1,000 operating hours, whereby on the one hand the direct measured values are shown in relative units and on the other hand the values normalized to the initial value are shown in percent after the passage of time. The determined values for maintenance and diversification are assessed as favorable.

Description
Verwendung eines UVA-Leuchtstoffs
Technisches Gebiet
0,5 ≤ a ≤ l,00; 0 ≤ b ≤ 0,20; 0 ≤ c ≤ 0,2a; 0,50 ≤d ≤ 1,50
bzw.
0,80 ≤ a ≤ 1,00; 0 ≤ b ≤ 0,05; 0 ≤ c ≤ 0,1a; 0,90 ≤ d ≤ 1,10.
