Abstract

The cylindrical block connector has two axial holes to receive the stripped ends of conductors. Within each hole there is a threaded lateral hole (4,5), receiving a locking screw. An insulating sleeve fits over the cable and connector. The connector comprises a cylindrical block pierced by two longitudinal cylindrical orifices (2,3), serving as contacts intended to receive the ends of conductors after these conductor ends have been stripped of insulation. Within each cylindrical orifice there is a threaded hole (4,5), perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, intended to receive a locking screw. At each end of the cylindrical block there is a peripheral skirt (6,7) defining a recess which is of the same diameter as the un-stripped cable. This covers the cable insulation for a length of between 10 and 20 mm. A further insulating sleeve then fits over a section of the cable outside the connector, and around the body of the connector itself.

Description

The present invention relates to a connector of two cables electrical energy and a connection comprising such a connector.

It concerns more precisely a connector of two cables of medium voltage electrical energy, each having a conductor surrounded by an insulating envelope and possibly a semiconductor layer, connector having tubular screw contacts and for to connect together the exposed ends of said conductors engaged in said contacts and held by means of screws.

A cable connection comprising such a connector is known to Patent Document GB 2,254,739. The connector used in this known cable connection is covered with an insulating sheath retractable to hot. The sheath is positioned above the connector and is retracted by heating then, after the heating operation, remains in position retracted. This sheath thus tends to take the form of the connector which is below it and the insulation of each cable. However, there are still free spaces at locations where the diameter change, ie between the insulating enclosure and the connector, as well as free spaces due to the irregular shape of the connector, in particular the heads of the screws. In this known solution, to fill the spaces free, an insulating putty sheet is wrapped around the connector before the retraction of the sheath.

The difference in diameter between the insulating envelope and the connector is essentially due to the fact that this set of screwed contacts generally covers a large range of sections, for example from 50 to 300 mm 2 , and is therefore larger than the insulating envelope. of each cable. Such a screw connector is for example known from patent document GB 2 262 396. In addition, the connector has an eccentric arrangement with respect to the conductor. This is due to the presence of the screws which further increase the dimensional difference between the insulating jacket and the connector. The heads of the screws and tappings make sharp points on the surface of the connector. The result is that the insulating sheath can not faithfully follow the contours of the insulating jacket of each cable and the connector surfaces, and that the insulating putty is exposed to an excessive electric field just at the most critical locations on the plane. electric. This is a problem that can lead to breakdown of the connection especially for applications from 10 kVolt.

A solution has been proposed which is described in the EP Patent 1 206 024.

According to this prior solution, the connection is provided with two molded rubber semiconductor covers covering part of the insulation of the corresponding cable and joining each other above of the connector, each of said covers having an internal shape adapted to be engaged above the connector and to fill the space formed by the difference in size between the connector and the envelope insulation of the corresponding cable.

Such an arrangement provides a satisfactory electrical result but is problematic mounting. Indeed, these two covers separated from each other and separated from the connector must be threaded onto the front cable ends making the connection of the cables by the connector and then pushed back onto the connector before inserting the insulating sheath.

It has moreover been proposed in patent document DE 27 40 232 a connector of two electrical power cables, each comprising a conductor surrounded by an insulating envelope, a connector comprising tubular screwed contacts and intended to connect together the ends exposed drivers engaged in contacts and maintained at medium of screws. This connector has at its ends an extension part of the connector and intended to cover part of the envelope insulating cable. This recovery is of a length of the order of a few millimeters.

On medium voltage cables, the insulating envelope can be shrink over several millimeters and up to 10 mm. Such a connector is therefore not suited to ensure this recovery over time and in case of shrinkage of the insulating envelope, a conventional shrinkage on this type of cable, an empty space is created conducive to breakdowns as it was seen above.

The invention proposes to solve this technical problem and to this does it relates to a connector of two electrical power cables of medium voltage, each comprising a driver surrounded by a insulating jacket, connector having tubular screwed contacts and intended to connect together exposed ends of drivers engaged in the contacts and held by means of screws, connector having at least one end thereof an extension means integral with the connector and intended to cover part of the insulating envelope cable, characterized in that said covering means covers the insulating envelope over a length greater than 10 mm.

Solidarity of the connector, the extension means is disposed during setting up the connector, without additional manipulation.

De préférence, ledit moyen de recouvrement couvre l'enveloppe isolante sur une longueur comprise entre 10 et 20 mm.Preferably, said covering means covers the envelope insulation for a length of between 10 and 20 mm.

According to a preferred embodiment, said extension means has a rounded free end.

This means of extension protrudes above the envelope cable insulation or on this envelope and screen form in this area of end transition of the connector, where important electric fields exist, local electrical constraints may lead to discharges partial and faulty connection. Thanks to its free end rounded, the formed screen ensures a good distribution of the fields electric.

According to a first embodiment, the extension means is consisting of a rigid annular flange disposed at the periphery of the connector.

Preferably, the flange is an integral part of the connector.

According to a second embodiment, the extension means is consisting of a flexible semiconductor rubber skirt attached to the periphery of the connector.

The invention also relates to a connection of two cables of medium voltage electrical energy, each having at least one conductor surrounded by an insulating envelope, connection comprising a connector as specified above and an insulating sheath suitable for cover intimately at least the connector.

Advantageously, the space between the connector and the envelope insulation of the corresponding cable is filled with a layer of insulating mastic.

This layer of insulating putty is provided by the insulating sheath during its retraction and serves to fill any remaining air pockets.

Preferably, the space between the insulating mastic layer and each screw is filled with conductive mastic or a bonnet of semiconductor material.

Although single conductor cables described, the invention also applies to multi-conductor cables.

La figure 1 représente donc un connecteur conforme à l'invention selon un premier mode de réalisation.FIG. 1 therefore represents a connector according to the invention according to a first embodiment.

This connector 1 of conductors is composed in a manner known in itself of a cylindrical body pierced with two longitudinal cylindrical orifices 2, 3 said contacts and intended to receive the ends of conductors, once bare cable ends. In these longitudinal orifices 2, 3 respectively open threaded bores 4, 5 for receiving each a locking screw ensuring the electrical contact of each driver. The connector 1 has at each of its ends a means of integral extension of the connector 1 consisting of a flange rigid ring 6, 7 disposed at the periphery of the connector, plus precisely of external diameter equal to that of the connector and diameter greater than that of the insulation of the largest cable of the covered range. The covering means covers the insulating envelope 11 over a length greater than 10 mm and preferably between 10 and 20 mm.

Dans le mode de réalisation préféré ici décrit, la bride 6, 7 est d'une longueur d'environ 15 mm.In the preferred embodiment described here, the flange 6, 7 is of a length of about 15 mm.

The flange 6 is preferably an integral part of the connector 1 and its free end is rounded.

Figure 2 partially shows a connection of two cables with the connector shown in Figure 1. This connection being symmetrical with respect to a vertical axis seen in the figure, only a cable connected is represented.

The cable is stripped at its end and the conductor 10 is nested in the contact 2, the insulating envelope 11 of the cable coming close to the end of the contact 2. The semiconductor coating 12 covering the envelope 11 is in turn removed over a longer length to be covered by the insulating sheath 20 retractable hot or cold, itself coated with a semiconductor layer 21. The screws 8 of the connector are screwed to clamp the conductor 10 against the connector wall and the space above each screw 8 is filled with conductive mastic or a bonnet of semiconductor material 9. The retractable sheath 20 is place and comes to marry the outer contour of connector 1 and cable.

The flange 6 thus protrudes above the insulating envelope 11 of the cable and screen form in this transition area.

Given the annular flange 6, the sheath 20 is applied thereto leaving a relatively large space between on the one hand the flange 6 and the insulating casing 11 of the cable and, on the other hand, the sheath 20 and this envelope 11. This space is easily filled with insulating mastic 13 which also fills the interfaces between the sheath 20 and the connector 1 and the insulating jacket 20 of the cable, the sealant chasing the air and ensuring a connection with good electrical resistance. This layer of insulating mastic is brought by the insulating sheath during its retraction.

La figure 3 représente un connecteur conforme à l'invention selon un second mode de réalisation.FIG. 3 represents a connector according to the invention according to a second embodiment.

This connector 1 'of conductors is composed in known manner in of a cylindrical body pierced by two longitudinal cylindrical orifices 2 ', 3' once the cable ends are stripped. In these holes longitudinal 2 ', 3' respectively open threaded bores 4 ', 5' intended to each receive a locking screw ensuring the electrical contact of each driver.

The connector 1 'has at each of its ends a means of integral extension of the connector 1 'consisting of a flexible skirt 6', 7 ' semiconductor rubber attached to the periphery of the connector, plus with a smaller external diameter than the connector and internal diameter adapted to the diameter of the insulating envelope of the smallest cable of the range covered, the end of this skirt being rounded.

Dans le mode de réalisation préféré ici décrit, la jupe 6', 7' forme un prolongement d'une longueur d'environ 15 mm.In the preferred embodiment described here, the skirt 6 ', 7' forms a extension of a length of about 15 mm.

Figure 4 partially shows a connection of two cables with the connector shown in Figure 3. This connection being symmetrical with respect to a vertical axis seen in the figure, only a cable connected is represented.

The cable is stripped at its end and the conductor 10 is nested in the contact 2 ', the insulating envelope 11 of the cable coming close to the end of the connector 1 '. The semiconductor coating 12 covering sheath 11 is removed for a longer length to be covered by the insulating sheath 20 retractable hot or cold, itself coated with a semiconductor layer 21. The screws 8 'of the connector are screwed to clamp the conductor 10 against the connector wall and the space above each screw 8 'is filled with conductive mastic or a cover in semiconductor material 9 '. The retractable sheath 20 is put into place and comes to marry the outer contour of the connector 1 'and the cable, providing a layer of insulating mastic 13 which fills the irregularities of remaining surface.

The skirt 6 'thus protrudes on the insulating jacket 11 of the cable, intimately covers thanks to its flexibility this envelope 11 and form screen in this transition zone. The internal diameter of the skirt 6 'is chosen to fit the smallest diameter of the cable insulation to be connected by the connector 1 '. For envelope diameters insulating upper, the skirt 6 'elastically expands to surround this insulating envelope.

The interfaces between the sheath 20 and the connector 1 and the envelope insulation 20 of the cable are filled with insulating mastic 13.
