Claims (6)

  1. Apparatus (10) for applying liquid or pasty application medium to a web (12), in particular of paper or board, moving in a running direction (L), having a non-contact applicator (14), which applies the application medium to a section of the course of the web (12) that is supported by a supporting device (20),
    characterized in that
    the supporting device (20) is formed by a circulating supporting element (18) in the form of a supporting belt or supporting fabric which, following the applicator (14), supports the web (12) at least as far as the next following web treatment apparatus (16), the applicator (14) being arranged between a pre-dryer section (28) and an after-dryer section (30) in the running direction (L) of the web (12).
  2. Apparatus according to Claim 1,
    characterized in that
    the non-contact applicator (14) is a spray application device or a curtain application device.
  3. Apparatus according to either of Claims 1 and 2,
    characterized in that
    the next following web treatment apparatus is a drying apparatus (16), for example an infrared and/or air drying apparatus.
  4. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 3,
    characterized in that
    the application medium contains binder and/or starch.
  5. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 4,
    characterized in that
    immediately before the applicator (14), the web (12) has a dryness of at least 25% by weight, preferably at least 50% by weight, still more preferably at least 58% by weight.
  6. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 to 5,
    characterized in that
    the pre-dryer section (28) is equipped with a smoothing unit.
