Description

The invention relates to a device for the adhesive binding of book blocks formed from compressed sheet that pass on a conveying path of a perfect binder to a book block spine about an approximately vertical axis of rotation notching tool having for the production of arcuate notches in the book block back dipping cutting teeth, the frontally protruding a carrier of the notching tool are attached.

The CE 303 678 teaches a method and apparatus for the seamless incorporation of books, with which the sheets of paper gathered into book blocks on the back side in the wines notched, that arcuate, mutually crossing notches on the back, is applied to the glue.

For the durability of a bound book block back its mechanical processing is as important as the gluing. With the processing of the book block back an enlargement of the sheet surface available for gluing is sought.
Coated or fine art papers complicate the perfect binding of a book block spine due to insufficient properties.

Not least for this reason, an improved binding is sought through an optimization of the book block spine structure, with the proviso to enlarge the book block back surface for the applied adhesive and thus to improve the rigidity with a favorable clamping effect.

This goal is pursued i.a. US 4'741'236 A with a device for notching a book block spine. The apparatus consists of a conveyor for moving a book block along a conveying path, the back of the book block projecting for processing. Opposite the book block back a notching device is arranged, which has an inclined in the conveying direction of the book block disc which is driven about a vertical axis. This axis of rotation is hollow and concentric with a shaft is mounted within the axis of rotation, which extends at one end for driving a notching tool on the disc out. The notching tool consists of three mutually adjacent Fräsblättern that leave when passing the book block back transverse to the conveying direction, different depths notches or grooves that are perpendicular to the inclined disc. That is, with each revolution of the disc, three notches are produced, each extending at different depths into the spine of the book block. The slanted grooves help to better anchor the glue on the back of a book block. The device used for this is associated with a relatively high cost.

The present invention has an improvement in both the anchoring of the glue in the back of a book block and the stapling effect compared to the US 4'741'236 A task.

According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the carrier of the notching tool has at least two opposite to the axis of rotation cutting teeth, which are aligned at an acute angle to a cutting circle plane. As a result, a structure of notches can be realized in the book block back, with the stiffness and stapling effect of a book block back is noticeably improved.

Advantageously, at least one of the cutting teeth has a position inclined toward the cutting center of the notching tool, so that during machining a mutually opposing inclined position of the notches is created.

The same structure of the notches may arise when at least one of the cutting teeth has a radially outwardly inclined position from the cutting center.

The carrier of the notching tool can be driven about an axis of rotation perpendicular to the conveying path, so that the book block back is possibly simultaneously trimmed by two spaced apart cutting teeth at the same time.

With each revolution of the notching tool resp. Carrier two notches are cut by a cutting tooth.

Or in a carrier of the notching tool, which is driven about an axis arranged inclined to the conveying path, the Book block spines are notched from a forward end, with opposite orientation of the cutting teeth on the carrier at the book block spine results in uniform alignment of the notches, whereas with uniform alignment of the cutting teeth on the book block spine, an opposing score structure results.

The distance resp. the structure of the notches along the book block spine can be determined by the speed adjustment of the scoring tool and / or the speed of the book blocks on the conveyance path of the perfect binder.

1 and 2 show a device for notching a printed sheet compressed at least on the lateral flanks of a book block spine 1 of a book block 2 (partially visible), the book block 2 being raised or facing the book block spine 1 of the scoring device in the direction F along a conveying path an adhesive binder is transported. Previously, the book block 2 clamped in a staple of the perfect binder passed a milling station in which the folded edges of the individual printed sheets were removed by cutting, so that for the subsequent notching process of the book block back 1 has a largely planar structure.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 for notching the book block spine 1 consists essentially of a, preferably disk-like carrier 3, which is connected to a drive shaft 4 and two the book block back 1 facing cutting teeth 5, which, as in the illustrated embodiment recognizable , are attached to the carrier 3 above the axis of rotation 6 vis-à-vis. The cutting teeth 5 projecting in the same direction of inclination on the carrier 3 result in a notched structure, as illustrated in FIG. 3, ie in each case a notch pair has oppositely directed notches or the notches juxtaposed in the longitudinal direction of a book block back have mutually opposing depressions. The depressions could alternately be designed to be of different lengths and it would be conceivable to fasten more than two cutting teeth 5 to the carrier 3. The distance of the notches depends on the conveying speed of the book blocks and the rotational speed of the cutting teeth 5, the direction of rotation is indicated by arrow R in Fig. 2. The trained to avoid uneven rotational forces circular carrier 3 is offset from the passing book block back 1 of the book block 2 in a slight angle, so that only one cutting tooth 5 at the same location on the book block back width in the book block back 1 dives, wherein the immersion path at least the length of Book block thickness and leaves a circular arc-shaped notch. The cutting teeth 5 are in an opposite the cutting plane formed by them acute angle β fixed by a shaft 9 in recesses 7, 8 of the support 3, preferably attached interchangeable. The recesses 7, 8 are triangular in cross-section and have in the sense of a lateral support approximately the width of a shaft 9 of a cutting tooth 5. The cutting teeth 5 may be soldered or screwed to its shaft 9 on the support 3.

Fig. 3 provides an image of the notch structure formed by the apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2 on a book block spine, the notch portions making it clear that the edge of the book block spine 1 is at notches approximately in the axis of rotation 6 of the scoring tool.

FIGS. 4 to 6 b provide an alternative embodiment of the notching tool and the notch structure.
According to FIG. 4, the cutting teeth 5 are fastened on the circumference of a disc-shaped support 3, which has the cross-sectional shape of a truncated cone. The cutting teeth 5 are fastened or exchangeably fixed along a generatrix of the carrier 3 and are the same cutting teeth 5 which have already been drawn in FIGS. 1 and 2. Of course, the cutting teeth 5 could also be secured in recesses.
A further difference with respect to FIGS. 1 and 2 is that the axis of rotation 6 or the drive shaft 4 connected to the carrier 3 is aligned approximately perpendicular to the conveying path or to the book block back 1, so that in each case both of the cutting teeth opposite to the axis of rotation 6 Cut 5 notches in the book block spine 1, both cutting teeth 5 are equally involved in the production of reflecting Kerbabschnittspaare 10 (see also Fig. 6a and 6b), the arrangement of FIG. 4 can be removed. As in FIG. 3, according to FIGS. 6 a and 6 b, the notch structure is not applied symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the book block back 1.

In Fig. 7 -excluded an enlarged view of Fig. 4- is a fragmentary cross-sectional geometry in the cutting region of a cutting tooth 5 is shown, as it is used for example in the embodiment of FIG. The cutting tip 11 has a wedge shape in cross-section at an angle α, so that the chips can be lifted out of the book block spine 1 trouble-free. For the rest, the cutting geometry of the cutting tooth 5 is similar to a turning tool.
