Definitions
- the present invention is in the field of materials energy composites. These materials are made up by a solid polymer matrix coating at least one solid powdery charge and comprising various additives. More specifically, energetic materials composites affected are those made from a crosslinkable liquid prepolymer; the different ingredients: powdery solid fillers and additives are mixed with the liquid prepolymer to form a paste to which a crosslinker is added; said dough poured into a mold is then hardened by a cooking at a temperature compatible with the presence of pyrotechnic material.
- composite explosive is conventionally meant a detonable pyrotechnic composition consisting of a solid polymer matrix, comprising at least one organic nitro explosive charge, for example hexogen (RDX), octogen (HMX) or oxynitrotriazole. (ONTA) in powder form.
- RDX hexogen
- HMX octogen
- ONTA oxynitrotriazole.
- composite propellant is also meant a pyrotechnic composition, the combustion of which produces gases which, accelerated through at least one nozzle, will provide a propellant effect.
- a composite propellant comprises a solid, often reducing, polymeric matrix, at least one pulverulent oxidizing charge, optionally a pulverulent reducing charge and various additives.
- the oxidizing charges are ammonium perchlorate, potassium perchlorate, sodium perchlorate, ammonium nitrate, potassium, likewise the reducing charges are, for example, aluminum, zirconium.
- the gas-generating compositions are particular pyrotechnic compositions, but of the propellant type, which by a particular choice of ingredients produce more or less reducing and more or less hot gases for different uses. With regard to the problems raised below, they fall under the same approach.
- the polymer matrix is produced from a liquid prepolymer, said prepolymer allows a high rate of solid powdery fillers, by careful mixing, a good distribution of the various ingredients is obtained.
- Different liquid prepolymers are used, but those concerned by the present invention are those of the polydiene type which comprise carbon-carbon double bonds capable, by chain reactions of the radical type, of leading to the degradation of the polymer matrix during its aging. This phenomenon is accelerated by the presence of free or occluded oxygen in the matrix and by the presence of metal ions; it leads to hardening by crosslinking of the polymer matrix which can be significant. This results in a reduction in the properties and performance of the material, or even failures during the use of said energetic material.
- the polydienes concerned are for example polyisoprenes, ethylenes - propylenes - dienes - monomers (EPDM) dienes or polybutadienes. These are often used for the manufacture of energetic materials.
- polybutadienes with carboxylic functional endings crosslinked by epoxides have been used. They have, for several years, been replaced by hydroxytelechelic polybutadienes, crosslinked by multifunctional isocyanates.
- the solid matrix obtained by crosslinking is of the polyurethane type.
- the antioxidant agent is selected from the antioxidant agents used to improve the aging behavior of polymers. Known agents act either by interrupting radical reactions or by inhibiting the action of metal ions. But in the case of energetic materials, this selection must take into account the fact that it is no longer a single polymer but a material with numerous additives and comprising a very large proportion of powdery fillers dispersed in the polymer matrix .
- the antioxidant agent must mix intimately with all the constituents of the energetic material: it is desirable for it to be soluble in the starting liquid prepolymer. The antioxidant agent must not degrade the rheological behavior of the paste which ends the preliminary phase of manufacturing the energetic material. The antioxidant agent must be compatible with the constituents of the energetic material and finally it must not modify the performance of the finished product.
- the composite energetic material can be stored under vacuum before use.
- the vacuum is disadvantage of extracting all mobile species in particular the additive or the antioxidant agent which is not related to the other ingredients of the energetic material composite. Migration to the agent's free surface antioxidant will leave areas at the heart of the material more susceptible to aging and whose degradation may give rise to malfunctions. This situation is encountered in uses in altitude: gas-generating or propellant compositions for attitude or trajectory correction of satellites.
- the present invention therefore relates to a composite energetic material comprising a solid polymer matrix produced from a polydiene-type prepolymer, comprising unsaturations, at least one pulverulent solid filler and additives including at least one antioxidant agent such as said antioxidant agent is a compound of general formula formula in which n is an integer such as 1 ⁇ n ⁇ 6.
- said antioxidant agent, MADA or its higher-ranking counterparts are associated with another antioxidant.
- the other agent antioxidant is the one used to protect from Oxidation the liquid prepolymer of the polydiene type.
- the total rate of agents antioxidant represents, by mass, from approximately 0.2% to about 2% of the polymer matrix and preferably from about 0.5% to about 1.5%.
- the total amount of antioxidant agents in the solid polymer matrix is about double the amount of antioxidant added to the liquid prepolymer.
- the antioxidant agent MADA is grafted onto the chain polymer of the matrix of the energetic material.
- the composite energetic material is a propellant of which the polymer matrix is based on a polybutadiene isocyanate crosslinked hydroxytelechelic multifunctional, preferably a diisocyanate.
- said composite propellant comprises among its additives a combustion accelerator based on metallic compound; this combustion accelerator is chosen from the group formed by copper chromite and ferrocenes.
- the composite energetic material is an explosive composite.
- the composite energetic material is a composition gas generator.
- MADA in the purified state by recrystallization in the toluene methanol, is in the form of crystals whites with a melting point between 132 ° C and 124 ° C.
- MADA is grafted onto the polymer matrix of composite energy material.
- the grafting is done by opening the cis or trans double bonds of the polymer chain according to the reaction: in which R - S - H represents MADA.
- the grafting can also be done on the pendant vinyl double bonds of the polymer of the matrix according to the reaction:
- grafting on the prepolymer solves the problem of the migration of the antioxidant agent which thus bound on polymer cannot be detached from it when the composite energetic material is stored under vacuum.
- grafting has the advantage of perfect dispersion of the antioxidant agent within the matrix, in the immediate vicinity of the chemical bonds which are to be protected from oxidation.
- the antioxidant of which is 2,2 'methylene bis 4 methyl 6 tertiobutylphenol (MBP.5); the other, said according to the invention, whose antioxidant agent is MADA.
- MBP.5 2,2 'methylene bis 4 methyl 6 tertiobutylphenol
- the prepolymer is based on a hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene, already comprising an antioxidant agent: ditertiobutyl paracresol (IONOL) added by the supplier of the prepolymer.
- IONOL ditertiobutyl paracresol
- the polymer matrix for these examples represents 14% by weight of the finished product, while all of the pulverulent charges represents 86% by weight of the final product.
- 140mm x 80mm x 60mm propellant pads have been made and wrapped in aluminum foil to except for one face exposed to air; each block has then placed in an aluminized cardboard box closed.
- the volume of trapped air represents 30% of the total volume. To accelerate aging the whole was placed at 60 ° C for one year.
- the propellants thus placed in aging have, at the initial instant, mechanical properties equivalent: the Young E module is around 4Mpa, the maximum tensile strength Sm is approximately 1MPa and the minimum elongation at maximum traction ⁇ m is between about 25% and about 40%.

Abstract
Description
n = 2 M = 332
n = 3 M = 406
n = 4 M = 480
