Definitions
- the invention relates to a dampening roller for dampening units in printing machines with a coating consisting of a carrier layer with applied hydrophilic functional coating as defined in claim 1.
- the dampening roller is used in particular as a metering roller or distributor roller.
- the dampening roller is part of a dampening unit, as used for example in Akzidenz offset printing machines.
- a dampening solution film is produced on the non-printing areas of the printing plate, which prevents them from being wetted with printing ink.
- the formation of dampening solution depends on several factors, in particular the surface tension of the dampening solution and the material properties of the dampening rollers.
- the dampening rollers in contact with each other draw the fountain solution from a dampening solution reservoir and convey it to the printing plate, to which it is applied by the dampening application roller in the form of a film.
- Good wettability of the roll surfaces against the dampening solution promotes the formation of a uniform, thin and closed film on the non-printing parts of the printing plate.
- the amount of additives added to the dampening solution to reduce the surface tension can be reduced when the dampening unit produces a stable fountain solution film.
- dampening rollers which have a applied by thermal spraying ceramic coating of the oxides or oxide mixtures of the elements hafnium, cerium, titanium and tantalum.
- a fountain roller which has a microporous, plasma-nitrided stainless steel coating.
- the surface layer is applied by plasma nitriding.
- dampening rollers are their good wear resistance. However, with regard to their wetting behavior with respect to the wetting agent, they prove to be insufficiently hydrophilic.
- the object of the invention to provide a dampening roller with hydrophilic lateral surface, which is resistant to wear and can be regenerated.
- the invention is based on the recognition that the chemical properties of dampening rollers can be decisively improved by applying special coatings, wherein the resistance of the applied coatings to wear depends crucially on the anchoring of the coating in the underlying layer.
- suitable anchoring pores are provided in the present invention as anchoring points, into which the functional coating, which is applied in liquid form, can penetrate before it is cured by drying and subsequent thermal aftertreatment. It is essential here that the size of the pores is set so that with repeated application of the functional coating still sufficient pore volume is available to anchor other, applied after the first, functional coatings. This ensures that the surface can be regenerated by re-coating. In this case, the formation of pores with irregular diameters has proven to be advantageous, i. that both the diameter of pore to pore, as well as the diameter of the individual pores vary within a certain range. A surface with particularly stable properties can be produced, even if the orientation of the pores is irregular and the pores in particular do not run radially to the cylinder axis.
- a pore structure which satisfies these requirements can be produced in a simple manner by thermal spraying.
- the dampening roller according to the invention can be used in any types of dampening. Representative of these are shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a four-roll dampening unit and a combined inking / dampening unit. In both dampening units, the dampening solution 13 is scooped from a dampening solution tank 12 by means of a fountain roller 8 and transported in the form of a film over the lateral surface of the platen roller 8 downstream rollers 9, 10, 11 to the plate cylinder 7 and with the dampening roller 10 as a thin film on the printing plate applied.
- the dampening roller according to the invention is used as a fountain roller 8 and as dampening roller 11.
- the dampening roller according to the invention is used as a transfer roller 9 is used.
- the dampening roller consists of a cast base body, on which a carrier layer 1, for example, produced in the plasma coating process is applied (see FIG. 3). This is prepared using metal or metal oxide powders, which preferably have particle sizes between 5 and 50 microns. Between carrier layer 1 and base body, a primer layer not shown in the figures can be provided.
- randomly distributed pores 2 are formed in the carrier layer 1, which vary in size and have diameters of 5 to 10 ⁇ m. Depending on the parameters of the coating, microcracks may also occur.
- a functional coating 5, 6 as defined in the present claim 1 is provided on the carrier layer 1.
- the functional coating 5, 6 can be designed as a single-layered or multi-layered coating. Their total layer thickness is smaller than the diameter of the pores 2 of the carrier material, ie that the totaled thickness of the regions of the functional coating 5, 6 which are opposite the inside of the pores 2 is always smaller than the pore diameter.
- the coating material used are modified inorganic nanosols.
- the modified inorganic nanosols consist of at least two components.
- the first component includes inorganic oxide nanoparticles of II.-V. Main and subgroup of the periodic table or mixtures thereof. These are preferably nanoparticles consisting of SiO 2 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 or mixtures thereof in aqueous, alcoholic or mixed solvents.
- the second component consists of the coating material-immiscible additives to achieve the hydrophilic behavior and increase the surface energy of the coating.
- the above-mentioned additives may be used singly or in combination of two or more.
- the coating is easily produced using the sol-gel method.
- the nanosol produced is applied by known coating methods, such as spraying, brushing, dipping, spin coating or dipping cover coating, with a defined coating thickness.
- the coating solution distributes uniformly on the surface of the carrier layer 1 and also penetrates into the interior of the pores 2 in the carrier layer 1, without, however, adding the pores 2.
- the nanoparticles orient themselves and the sol gels.
- the layer is subsequently removed by drying the solvent.
- the dried layer is then fixed by annealing.
- the temperatures are preferably between 120 and 200 ° C. If inorganic iso- or heteropolyacids are used as additives (see above, final coat), the annealing temperature can be up to 600 ° C.
- the pores 2 also provide sufficient attack points for the anchoring of the functional coating 5, 6 for further coating processes. This makes it possible to regenerate the surface and thus also its properties.

Description
- Fig. 1
- die schematische Darstellung eines Vierwalzenfeuchtwerkes,
- Fig. 2
- die schematische Darstellung eines kombinierten Farb-/Feuchtwerks,
- Fig. 3
