The key plate has a keyhole and the furniture knob plate has a furniture knob hole for attachment of for instance a furniture knob, the key plate and the furniture knob plate being adjustable in two mutual positions: a first position in which the keyhole and the furniture knob hole are aligned and operation of the bolt by means of a key is possible, and a second position in which the keyhole and the furniture knob hole are positioned staggered with respect to each other and the furniture knob hole is accessible for mounting, and operation of the bolt by means of the furniture knob. <IMAGE>

Description

  • The invention relates to the field of so-called multi-purpose locks: locks of which the function in mounted condition in for instance a door, can be changed, for instance from a lock operable by a key to a toilet door lock operable by a furniture knob.
  • From German "Gebrauchsmuster" 296 06 598 a lock is known of which the wanted function can be changed. The know lock has a lock case, in the opposite walls of which lock case openings have been arranged for arranging the internal mechanism of a cylinder lock or a toilet lock. In case the internal mechanism has been provided with a cylinder lock, the openings of the lock case are covered by identical cover plates each having a hole for inserting a key. In mounted condition the cover plates are kept together by a screw. In case the internal mechanism of a toilet lock has been provided, the openings of the lock case are also covered by identical cover plates which however have now been provided with a square hole for passing through the square shaft of a furniture knob for operating the toilet lock. Here as well the cover plates in mounted condition are kept together by a screw. Changing the function of the lock can now take place by among others changing the cover plates for the cylinder lock for the cover plates for the toilet lock or vice versa, without the lock case having to be replaced.
  • The known lock has the disadvantage of, apart from a single lock case, several separate (loose) parts being necessary for changing the function of the lock: for instance, when the function of toilet lock was chosen, two cover plates each having a keyhole as well as the internal mechanism of a cylinder lock as separate loose parts are needed to be able to change the function of the lock. Also, when the function of cylinder lock was chosen, two cover plates having a square hole as well as the internal mechanism of a toilet lock as separate loose parts are necessary. There is a risk that said separate loose parts may get mislaid or are erroneously changed for parts that do not fit. Another drawback is that changing the function of the known lock is relatively laborious: the cover plates have to be unscrewed and removed, the internal mechanism of the lock has to be removed and replaced after which the other cover plates have to be positioned in their place and screwed on.
  • It is an object of the invention to improve on this.
  • To that end the invention provides a lock assembly, for instance for a door, comprising a lock case having a bolt and means for operating the bolt, comprising a key plate and a furniture knob plate, the key plate having a keyhole and the furniture knob plate having a furniture knob hole for attachment of for instance a furniture knob, the key plate and the furniture knob plate being adjustable in two mutual positions: a first position in which the keyhole and the furniture knob hole are aligned and operation of the bolt by means of a key is possible, and a second position in which the keyhole and the furniture knob hole are positioned staggered with respect to each other and of the keyhole and the furniture knob hole only the furniture knob hole is accessible for mounting, and operation of the bolt by means of the furniture knob. The advantage is provided because in order to change the function of the lock, for instance from a lock operable by means of a key into a bathroom lock, only the mutual position of the key plate and the furniture knob plate has to be changed from the first position into the second position. In the released furniture knob hole a furniture knob can then be mounted after which the bolt can be operated by means of the furniture knob. Separate parts are therefore no longer needed at all. Also separate internal mechanisms are no longer necessary: the means for operating the bolt are already present in the lock case and are active in both positions. Moreover the changing of the function of the lock is strongly simplified, because this mainly only comprises the action of changing the mutual position of the key plate and the furniture knob plate. A logistic advantage is also provided: door manufacturers are able to provide doors of the lock assembly according to the invention, without it having to be known beforehand what the function of the door is going to be.
  • In an advantageous manner the furniture knob hole has an interruption for a key. In the first position the key can then be inserted into the keyhole via the interruption in the furniture knob plate; the furniture knob plate thus does not hinder the insertion of the key.
  • In an advantageous manner the key plate and the furniture knob plate have been arranged for co-rotation in the first position, wherein preferably the key plate and the furniture knob plate can be coupled in the first position by means of a coupling piece. Due to the coinciding rotation (preferably by means of the coupling piece) the furniture knob plate rotates along with the key plate in case of operation of the lock by means of the key: the rotation of the key plate is not hindered by the furniture knob plate.
  • In a preferred embodiment at least the key plate is slidable between both positions, wherein the key plate preferably can be slid away out of the coupling piece until in the second position. By sliding the key plate away out of the coupling piece the coupling between the key plate and the furniture knob plate is ended: only the furniture knob plate can then still rotate, by means of operating the furniture knob, for operating the bolt.
  • Preferably the key plate is attached to a sliding piece in order to be able to slide away the key plate out of the coupling piece until in the second position by sliding away the sliding piece. The sliding piece is a simple means enabling to slide away the key plate quick and easy.
  • Preferably the assembly has furthermore been provided with a blocking catch for blocking the retraction of the bolt, which blocking catch, through cooperation with the furniture knob plate, is movable between an upper position in which the blocking catch blocks the retraction of the bolt and an intermediate position and a lower position in which the blocking catch does not block the retraction of the bolt. In the upper position of the blocking catch the bolt has the function of deadbolt or locked bolt of a bedroom lock or bathroom lock. In the intermediate position or lower position of the blocking catch the bolt can be retracted, for instance by operating the lock with a lever handle. The bolt then has the function of front side of the lock case bolt.
  • In an advantageous manner an arm has been provided to be able to retract the bolt, the arm being hinged to the sliding piece and being movable by means of a transport catch attached to the arm, and the transport catch being able to be moved through cooperation with the furniture knob plate to move the arm to retract the bolt. In the first position, wherein the key plate and the furniture knob plate have been coupled by means of the coupling piece, the bolt can be retracted by operating the lock with the key: the rotation of the key lets the furniture knob plate rotate along, the furniture knob plate moving the transport catch, at least over a certain area of angular displacement of the furniture knob plate. The motion of the transport catch in its turn ensures that the arm hinges about the sliding piece, and thus retracts the bolt.
  • In a preferred embodiment the coupling piece is a coupling ring through which the furniture knob plate and the key plate have been fittingly coupled, the furniture knob plate being formed by a first lever handle catch plate having a first lever handle catch and a second lever handle catch plate having a second lever handle catch, the key plate lying in between the first lever handle catch plate and the second lever handle catch plate. Particularly the lever handle catches, during rotation, ensure cooperation with the other elements such as the blocking catch, the transport catch and the sliding piece to be able to operate the bolt. The coupling ring, the first lever handle catch plate and the second lever handle catch plate may alternatively be formed and used as a part from one unity.
  • In an advantageous manner the blocking catch has been provided with a recess having an upper and lower stop edge for cooperation with the first and/or second lever handle catch. Because of this cooperation, the blocking catch can be moved upwards and downwards, respectively, by letting the first and/or second lever handle catch rotate in the mathematical positive sense and negative sense, respectively.
  • Preferably the blocking catch, when the key plate has or has not been slid away, respectively, is movable between the upper position and the lower and intermediate position, respectively, through cooperation of the first lever handle catch with the upper and lower stop edge, respectively, of the recess made in the blocking catch, wherein the lower position and intermediate position, respectively, of the blocking catch are defined by cooperation of a cam arranged on the blocking catch with a lowered edge and a raised edge, respectively, on the sliding piece and wherein the upper position of the blocking catch is defined by rotating the first lever handle catch out of engagement with the recess in the blocking catch, at the location of the upper stop edge of the recess. When the key plate has not been slid away the sliding piece is positioned such that in the then lowest possible position of the blocking catch its cam supports on the lowered edge of the sliding piece: this defines the lower position. When the key plate has been slid away the sliding piece is positioned such that in the then lowest possible position of the blocking catch its cam supports on the raised edge of the sliding piece: this defines the intermediate position.
  • In a preferred embodiment the transport catch is able to move the arm through cooperation of the second lever handle catch with a cam arranged on the transport catch. By operating the lock by, in the negative sense, turning the key the second lever handle catch plate is rotated along in order to let the second lever handle catch cooperate with the cam of the transport catch, over a certain area of angular displacement of the key, in order to move the transport catch to have the arm retract the bolt.
  • In an advantageous manner the transport catch has been connected to the blocking catch through cooperation of a slot arranged in the transport catch and the cam arranged on the blocking catch. This provides the advantage that when locking the bolt, so when moving the blocking catch upwards, the transport catch also moves upwards as a result of which contact between the second lever handle catch and the cam arranged on the transport catch is avoided. The cam of the transport catch then cannot hinder the rotation of the second lever handle catch plate. When locking the bolt, when the sliding piece has not been slid away, the key can be turned through until in a starting position (the position of the key in which the key is inserted into the lock) to take the key out of the lock again. Moreover, when the sliding piece has been slid away, when turning the furniture knob to lock the bolt, rotation of the second lever handle catch plate is not hindered by the cam of the transport catch. Only in the lower position of the blocking catch, so in the unlocked position of the bolt when the sliding piece has not been slid away, cooperation of the second lever handle catch and the cam arranged on the transport catch is possible in order to retract the bolt by means of the key.
  • In an embodiment the sliding piece has been provided with a stop edge for, when the key plate has been slid away, limiting the stroke of the first and/or second lever handle catch plate, the stop edge cooperating with the first and/or second lever handle catch. When using the lock as a bathroom lock the stroke of the furniture knob has to be limited to 90° for which two limitations are necessary. The stop edge of the sliding piece forms the first limitation.
  • Preferably in the intermediate position of the blocking catch, the lower stop edge of the recess made in the blocking catch through cooperation with the first lever handle catch serves as limitation for the stroke of the first lever handle catch plate: because in the intermediate position of the blocking catch (when the sliding piece has been slid away) the blocking catch cannot move further downwards, the lower stop edge of the recess arranged in the blocking catch forms a limitation for further rotation, in the negative sense, of the first lever handle catch. Said limitation forms the second limitation for the stroke of the furniture knob.
  • In a preferred embodiment the front of the lock case has been provided with an opening to give access to a surface of the sliding piece in order to be able to slide away the sliding piece. In the mounted situation of the lock in for instance a door the sliding away of the sliding piece can thus be managed easily by pressing a long thin object, for instance a nail, through the opening in the front plate against the surface of the sliding piece. The changing of the function of the lock is thus strongly simplified.
  • In an advantageous manner the side edge between the raised and the lowered edge of the sliding piece defines a stop surface for the cam arranged on the blocking catch in order to prevent the sliding away of the sliding piece in the lower position of the blocking catch. In this way a security is provided against the erroneously sliding away of the sliding piece: in unlocked position of the bolt the sliding away of the sliding piece is not possible. In order to be able to slide away it is necessary to first lock the bolt by means of the key and to remove the key from the lock. The blocking catch and the cam arranged on it then are in the upper position as a result of which contact of the cam with the sliding piece is not possible then. The side edge of the sliding piece therefore cannot serve as stop for the cam of the blocking catch: the sliding away of the sliding piece is now possible.
  • Preferably the assembly has been provided with a compliant plate-shaped element fixed with respect to the lock case, which element has parts protruding downwards from the plane of the plate, which parts cooperate with recesses made in the sliding piece in order to fixate the sliding piece in the non-slid-away or the slid-away position, and with an opening made in the blocking catch in order to fixate the blocking catch in the upper position, respectively. This provides the advantage that even when the door in which the lock according to the invention has been built in, is bumped into hard, or forcefully slammed, the sliding piece and the blocking catch can remain fixated in the wanted position.
  • In an advantageous manner a pressed through edge in the lock case ensures that the coupling piece is retained in position with respect to the lock case. As a result also the first lever handle catch plate and the second lever handle catch plate are retained in position with respect to the lock case in order to cooperate with the blocking catch, the transport catch and (optionally) the sliding piece.
  • In a preferred embodiment the furniture knob hole is a square hole for attachment of a furniture knob having a square shaft. In practice this embodiment of the furniture knob is used a lot.
  • The invention also provides a door provided with a lock assembly having one of more of above-mentioned characteristics.
  • An exemplary embodiment of the assembly according to the invention will be described below by way of example on the basis of the figures.
  • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a lock with the assembly of key plate and lever handle catch plates, in which for reasons of clarity the coupling piece and the lever handle catch plates have been drawn in exploded view.

  • The lock 1 shown in figure 1 and 2 is surrounded by a lock case 2 having side walls 2a and rear wall 2b and front plate 3. The front wall of the lock case 2 has not been drawn. The front plate 3 has been provided with openings 5 and 6 for attachment of the lock 1 in a door and for attachment of the lock case 2 to the front plate 3, respectively. The front plate 3 has furthermore been provided with an opening 7, in order to, also in the built-in situation of the lock 1, give access to the inside of the lock 1.
  • The main elements of the lock are formed by a key plate 10, a first lever handle catch plate 20 and a second lever handle catch plate 30, a sliding piece 40, a coupling ring 50, a blocking catch 60, a transport catch 70 and an arm 80. The lock 1 shown in figures 1 and 2 is accessible for operation by means of a key: the key plate 10 is situated in the non-slid-away position. The main elements are shown in more detail in the figures 4-9.
  • Further important elements of the lock 1 are a bolt 85 having a bolt head 86 and a tail part which is fittingly accommodated in a sliding plate 87 having end surface 97. The bolt head 86 and the sliding plate 87 thus form one slidable assembly. A spring 88 supported against the lock case 2 by means of a turned lip 89 of the rear wall 2b, is active on the bolt 85, which spring ensures springing back of the bolt 85 after retracting the bolt 85, or after pushing the door closed. A lever handle tumbler 90 having two bearing rings 91 has been provided for the lever handle operation of the lock 1, for converting the rotating motion of the lever handle (not shown in the figures) into a sliding motion of the bolt 85. An assembly of a profile 92, lever handle tumbler spring 93 and a fixated element 94 ensures that the lever handle tumbler 90 always returns into the resting position.
  • The lock case 2 has further been provided with openings 95a, 95b and 96a, 96b, 96c for attachment of a furniture knob or a protective plate for a lever handle, respectively, by means of for instance screws.
  • Figure 3 shows the lock 1 shown in figures 1 and 2 with the key plate 10 slid away and sliding piece 40 slid away. The lock 1 is now accessible for attachment of, and operation by a furniture knob (not shown in the figures).
  • Figures 4A, 4B and 4C show the key plate 10, the first lever handle catch plate 20, the second lever handle catch plate 30 and the coupling ring 50 in more detail, respectively. The key plate 10 has a keyhole 11 and recesses 12 and 13. The first lever handle catch plate 20 has a square hole 21 having an interruption 22, recesses 23 and 24 and a first lever handle catch 25. The second lever handle catch plate 30 is identical to the first lever handle catch plate 20. Coupling ring 50 comprises a first ring 51 having an interruption 56 connected by means of a transverse connection 53 and a raised portion 57, and a second ring 52 having an interruption 58 and a raised portion 59. The transverse connection 53 has raised portions 55a and 55b arranged on the first ring 51 and second ring 52, respectively, the raised portions 55a, 55b being connected by means of a intermediate portion 55c widened with respect to them. The height of the raised portions 55a and 55b corresponds to the thickness of the first lever handle catch plate 20 and the second lever handle catch plate 30. The coupling ring 50 has furthermore been provided with a cam 54 on the first ring 51.
  • The recess 13 of the key plate 10 has been provided to be slid around an attachment element, for instance a screw, inserted through opening 95a of the lock case 2 when sliding the key plate 10 by means of the sliding piece 40. The interruptions 22, 32 in the lever handle catch plates 20, 30 have been provided to make the insertion of a key into the lock 1 possible when the key plate 10 has not been slid away.
  • The cooperation between the key plate 10, the first lever handle catch plate 20, the second lever handle catch plate 30 and the coupling ring 50 is as follows: the coupling ring 50 has been coupled to both lever handle catch plates 20, 30 through cooperation of the raised portions 57, 59, 55a, 55b with respective recesses 24, 34, 23, 33 in the first and second lever handle catch plate 20, 30. Said coupling can be realised by sliding the lever handle catch plates 20, 30 for instance one after the other in between the raised portions 57, 59 into the coupling ring 50. Through cooperation of widened intermediate portion 55c with recess 12, the key plate 10 is coupled to the coupling ring 50. The coupling of the key plate 10 takes place after the lever handle catch plates 20, 30 have been arranged, and is also realised by sliding the key plate 10 in between the raised portions 57, 59 into the coupling ring 50. The key plate 10 then is situated in between both lever handle catch plates 20, 30. Because of this cooperation the key plate 10, the first lever handle catch plate 20, the second lever handle catch plate 30 and the coupling ring 50 are coupled during rotation in order to turn as one unity, when the key plate 10 has not been slid away.
  • Because only one transverse connection 53 has been arranged over the circumference of the coupling ring 50, and because the raised portions 57, 59 do not extend in the plane of the key plate 10, the key plate 10 can be slid out of the coupling ring 50. When both lever handle catch plates 20, 30 rotate with the coupling ring 50 the key plate 10 will not rotate along.
  • Figure 5 shows the sliding piece 40 manufactured from plate material, which sliding piece has a central opening 41 and a slit 42. The central opening 41 has been provided to be able to accommodate the key plate 10 rotatable in the plane of the sliding piece 40. Because the key plate 10 is situated in the plane of the sliding piece 40, the key plate 10 is slid along during the sliding of the sliding piece 40. As a result the key plate 10 can be slid away from the position in which it was coupled with the coupling ring 50, until in the slid-away position. The sliding away of the sliding piece 40 takes place by exerting a force for instance by means of a nail via opening 7 of the front plate 3, on a turned operation edge 43a (operation edge 43a is aligned with opening 7 of the front plate 3). Slit 42 has been provided for guiding the sliding piece 40, when sliding away, past an attachment element arranged through opening 95b. The sliding piece 40 has furthermore been provided with turned edges 43b and 43c, a turned stop edge 44, recesses 45, 46, a lowered edge 47, a raised edge 48 and a side edge 49 situated between the lowered edge 47 and the raised edge 48.
  • Figure 6 shows the blocking catch 60 with recess 61, turned cam 64, opening 65, blocking plane 66 and recesses 67, 68. The recess 61 has an upper stop edge 62 and a lower stop edge 63 for cooperation with the first lever handle catch 25 of lever handle catch plate 20. Opening 65 and recess 67 have been provided for leaving opening 95a and opening 96a, respectively, free for arrangement of attachment elements.
  • Figure 7 shows the transport catch 70 having a slit 71 for accommodating cam 64 of blocking catch 60. Furthermore turned edges 72 and 76 have been provided, and recesses 73, 74 and 75. Recess 73 offers space for rotating the lever handle catch 35. Edge 77a of protruding portion 77 can cooperate with second lever handle catch 35 to move the transport catch 70.
  • Figure 8 shows the arm 80 having stop surface 81 for operating the sliding plate 87 of the bolt 85 to retract the bolt 85, an opening 82 for cooperation with (turned edge 72 of) transport catch 70 and an opening 83 for cooperation with (turned edge 43b of) sliding piece 40. Recess 74 in transport catch 70 makes cooperation between sliding piece 40 and arm 80 possible. Recess 75 in transport catch 70 makes cooperation between transport catch 70 and arm 80 possible.
  • Figure 9 shows a fixation plate 100 made from thin flexible plate steel for fixating the sliding piece 40 and the blocking catch 60. The fixation plate 100 has recesses 101, 102 and 103 which are able to cooperate with recesses 45 or 46 in the sliding piece 40, and with recess 68 in the blocking catch 60, respectively. Recess 103 has been arranged at the end of an arm 107. A turned edge 105 has been provided, the height of which is smaller than the height of the operation edge 43a of the sliding piece 40. An opening 106 has been arranged to make sliding of the operation edge 43a with respect to the fixation plate 100 possible. An opening 108 has been arranged for the coupling ring 50 and a recess 104 (in the shape of a downwardly oriented lip) has been provided to cooperate with cam 54 of the coupling 50.
  • Figure 10 shows a perspective view of the lock 1 of figure 1 and 2, wherein the lock 1 has been provided with the fixation plate 100. The recesses 101, 102 cooperate with the recesses 46 in the sliding piece 40 that has not been slid away. Recess 103 is not in engagement with recess 68 because the blocking catch 60 is not in the upper position: fixation of the blocking catch 60 is not necessary then, after all it supports with cam 64 on lowered edge 47 of the sliding piece 40. Recess 104 cooperates with cam 54 of the coupling ring 50 to fixate the assembly of coupling ring 50, key plate 10 and lever handle catch plates 20, 30 in a "zero-position". The "zero-position" is the position wherein the interruptions 22, 32 are vertically downwardly oriented. The fixation takes place such that it can be ended with little force (by turning the key, or turning the furniture knob).
  • The lock shown in the figures can have four functions with one single bolt 85 only:
  • latch:
    only operation by means of the lever handle to retract the bolt 85 (the bolt 85 has the function of front side of the lock case bolt).
    cupboard lock:
    only operation by means of the key to retract the bolt 85 (the bolt 85 has the function of deadbolt).
    bedroom lock:
    operation by means of the lever handle to retract the bolt 85 (the bolt 85 has the function of front side of the lock case bolt), locking takes place by means of the key (the bolt 85 then has the function of deadbolt).
    Bathroom lock:
    operation by means of the lever handle to retract the bolt 85 and operation by means of the furniture knob for locking.
  • Below, said functions will be discussed in detail.
  • Latch
  • The lock 1 can have the function of latch by means of operating the lever handle of lever handle tumbler 90. Said function can be fulfilled independent of the key plate 10 being slid away or not from the coupling ring 50. The only condition is that the lock 1 has not been locked by the key or by the furniture knob: blocking catch 60 may not be slid upwards in order to, due to stopping of end surface 97 of sliding plate 87 against blocking plane 66, block the retraction of bolt 85. In the situation of the lock 1 drawn in figure 2, retraction of the bolt 85 by means of the lever handle therefore is indeed possible, in the situation shown in figure 3 retraction of the bolt 85 by means of the lever handle is not possible.
  • Cupboard lock
  • The lock 1 can only have the function of cupboard lock when the key plate 10 has not been slid away.
  • Referring to the starting position shown in figure 2, cam 64 of blocking catch 60 supports on lowered edge 47 of sliding piece 40: this defines the lower position of the blocking catch 60. The retraction of bolt 85 by means of the key goes as follows: by turning the key in the negative sense from the starting position, second lever handle catch 35 will press against edge 77a of transport catch 70, as a result of which the transport catch 70 will move to the right. Due to the turned edge 72 in the opening 82, the arm 80 is rotated in the negative sense around the turned edge 43b extending in the opening 83. Stop surface 81 presses against the sliding plate 87 to retract the bolt 85. When the key is let go of, the action of the spring 88 will push back the bolt 85 to the outside, and the assembly of coupling ring 50, lever handle catch plates 20, 30 and key plate 10 moves back to the starting position. The key can then be taken out of the lock 1 again.
  • Bedroom lock
  • The lock 1 can only have the function of bedroom lock when the key plate 10 has not been slid away. The bedroom lock function has two aspects: the locking of the lock 1 by means of a key, and the retraction of the bolt 85 by means of the lever handle.
  • Referring to the starting position shown in figure 2, the locking goes as follows: by turning the key in the positive sense, the assembly of coupling ring 50, lever handle catch plates 20, 30 and key plate 10 is rotated along. First lever handle catch 25 is here rotated into the recess 61, at the location of the lower stop edge 63. By rotating the key further the first lever handle catch 25 contacts the upper stop edge 62: as a result the blocking catch 60 is moved upwards until in the upper position of the blocking catch 60.
  • Stopping of the end surface 97 against the blocking plane 66 then prevents the retraction of the bolt 85: the lock 1 is in the locked situation. The upper position of the blocking catch 60 is defined by rotating the lever handle catch 25 away out of engagement with the upper stop edge 62.
  • When moving the blocking catch 60 upwards, transport catch 70 is taken along by cam 64. The transport catch 70 here rotates with respect to the turned edge 72 extending in the opening 82 of arm 80. By taking the transport catch 70 along by cam 64 it is prevented that, after rotating the lever handle catch 25 away out of engagement with the upper stop edge 62 from the recess 61, the second lever handle catch 35 contacts protruding portion 77 of the transport catch 70 during further rotation (lever handle catches 25 and 35 are aligned in axial direction of the coupling ring 50). The assembly of coupling ring 50, lever handle catch plates 20, 30 and key plate 10 can then unimpededly be rotated further until the "zero-position" is reached again. The key can then be taken out of the lock.
  • The unbolting of the lock 1 takes place in reversed order, wherein first lever handle catch 25 is rotated in the recess 61, at the location of the upper stop edge 62. During further rotation of the key the first lever handle catch 25 contacts the lower stop edge 63: as a result the blocking catch 60 is moved downwards until in the lower position of the blocking catch 60. During further rotation of the key the initial situation shown in figure 2 is reached again. The key can be taken out of the lock again or the key can be turned further in the negative sense to retract the bolt 85, as explained with the cupboard function.
  • The retraction of the bolt 85 by means of the lever handle takes place as discussed with the latch function.
  • Bathroom lock
  • The lock 1 can only have the function of bathroom lock when the key plate 10 has been slid away and the square holes 21, 31 lie free for attachment of the furniture knob. Referring to the starting position shown in figure 2, the sliding away of the sliding piece 40 cannot take place because this is prevented by the cam 64 lying against the side edge 49. In order to be able to slide away the sliding piece 40, it is necessary to lock first by means of the key, as described in the bedroom lock function and to take the key out of the lock 1. The blocking catch 60, with cam 64 then are in the upper position as a result of which cam 64 no longer abuts the side edge 49: sliding away of sliding piece 40 is possible now to reach the situation shown in figure 3. The square holes 21, 31 are now accessible for attachment of the furniture knob.
  • First having to lock the lock 1 by means of the key prior to being able to slide away the sliding piece 40 serves to prevent the erroneous sliding away of the sliding piece 40: the action of locking has to be intentionally carried out before sliding away can take place. In the slid-away situation of the sliding piece 40, the sliding back of the sliding piece 40 namely is practically difficult: a hook would for instance have to be hooked via opening 7 behind operation edge 43a in order to slide back the sliding piece 40.
  • The bathroom function has two aspects: the locking of the lock 1 by means of furniture knob, and the retraction of the bolt 85 by means of the lever handle.
  • Referring to figure 3 the lock 1 is in the locked situation: blocking catch 60 is in the upper position. The unbolting of the lock 1 goes as follows: by rotating the furniture knob in the negative sense, the assembly of coupling ring 50 and lever handle catch plates 20, 30 is rotated along, the first lever handle catch 25 at the location of the upper stop edge 62 being moved into the recess 61. During further rotation the first lever handle catch 25 contacts the lower stop edge 63 wherein the blocking catch 60 is moved downwards. Because the sliding piece 40 has been slid away, the position the blocking catch 60 will take in the end, when moved downwards, is defined by the stop of cam 64 on raised edge 48 of the sliding piece 40: this defines the intermediate position of the blocking catch 60. In the intermediate position the retraction of the bolt 85 is not hindered by the blocking catch 60. The blocking catch 60 now does not move until in the lower position because lowered edge 47, due to sliding the sliding piece 40, has been slid out of the path of cam 64.
  • Because the blocking catch 60 now is not in the lower position, lever handle catch 25, during further rotation of the furniture knob, can no longer be rotated out of the recess 61 at the location of the lower stop edge 63. As a result stop edge 63 acquires the function of first stop for first lever handle catch 25 to limit the stroke of the furniture knob in the negative sense.
  • The lock 1 now is in the unbolted situation and the bolt 85 can be retracted by means of the lever handle as described in the latch function.
  • The bolting of the lock 1 by means of the furniture knob from the unbolted situation here takes place in reversed order as described above with the unbolting. By rotating the furniture knob in positive sense, the first lever handle catch 25 moves in recess 61 from the lower stop edge 63 to the upper stop edge 62. During further rotation of the furniture knob, lever handle catch 25 pushes against the upper stop edge 62 in order to move bloding catch 60 upwards until in the upper position. Here the lever handle catch 25, at the location of the upper stop edge 62, is rotated out of the recess 61 until against stop edge 44 of sliding piece 40 (the situation shown in figure 3). Stop edge 44 as a result acquires the function of a second stop for first lever handle catch 25 to limit the stroke of the furniture knob, in the positive sense. The stroke of the furniture knob between both stops is approximately 90°.
  • It is noted that in the bathroom lock function contact between lever handle catch 35 and protruding portion 77 is not possible because when locking by means of the furniture knob the blocking catch 60 is moved upwards as a result of which transport catch 70 is also moved upwards: protruding portion 77 is thus moved out of reach of lever handle catch 35 and the rotation of the assembly of coupling ring 50 and lever handle catch plates 20, 30 is not hindered.
  • The combination of the four functions in one lock 1 has a logistic advantage: door manufacturers are able to provide doors with a lock 1, without it having to be known beforehand what the function of the door is going to be.

Claims (25)

  1. Lock assembly, for instance for a door, comprising a lock case (2) having a bolt (85) and means for operating the bolt, characterised in that it comprises a key plate (10) and a furniture knob plate (20,30), the key plate (10) having a keyhole (11) and the furniture knob plate (20,30) having a furniture knob hole (21, 31) for attachment of for instance a furniture knob, the key plate (10) and the furniture knob plate (20,30) being adjustable in two mutual positions: a first position in which the keyhole (11) and the furniture knob hole are aligned and operation of the bolt (85) by means of a key is possible, and a second position in which the keyhole (11) and the furniture knob hole are positioned staggered with respect to each other and of the keyhole (11) and the furniture knob hole (21,31) only the furniture knob hole (21,31) is accessible for mounting, and operation of the bolt (85) by means of the furniture knob.
  2. Assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the furniture knob hole has an interruption for a key.
  3. Assembly according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the key plate and the furniture knob plate (10) have been arranged for co-rotation in the first position.
  4. Assembly according to claim 3, characterized in that the key plate (10) and the furniture knob plate can be coupled in the first position by means of a coupling piece.
  5. Assembly according to claim 4, characterized in that at least the key plate (10) is slidable between both positions.
  6. Assembly according to claim 5, characterized in that the key plate (10) can be slid away out of the coupling piece until in the second position.
  7. Assembly according to claim 6, characterized in that the key plate (10) is attached to a sliding piece (60) in order to be able to slide away the key plate (10) out of the coupling piece until in the second position by sliding away the sliding piece (40).
  8. Assembly according to claim 7, characterized in that the assembly has furthermore been provided with a blocking catch (60) for blocking the retraction of the bolt (85), which blocking catch (60), through cooperation with the furniture knob plate, is movable between an upper position in which the blocking catch (60) blocks the retraction of the bolt (85) and an intermediate position and a lower position in which the blocking catch (60) does not block the retraction of the bolt (86).
  9. Assembly according to claim 8, characterized in that an arm (80) is provided to be able to retract the bolt (86), the arm (80) being hinged to the sliding piece (40) and being movable by means of a transport catch (70) attached to the arm (80), and the transport catch (70) being able to be moved through cooperation with the furniture knob plate to move the arm (80) to retract the bolt (85).
  10. Assembly according to claim 9, characterized in that the coupling piece is a coupling ring (50) through which the furniture knob plate and the key plate (10) have been fittingly coupled, the furniture knob plate being formed by a first lever handle catch plate (20) having a first lever handle catch (25) and a second lever handle catch plate (30) having a second lever handle catch (35), the key plate (10) lying in between the first lever handle catch plate (20) and the second lever handle catch plate (30).
  11. Assembly according to claim 10, characterized in that, the blocking catch (60) is provided with a recess (61) having an upper and lower stop edge (62,63) for cooperation with the first and/or second lever handle catch (25,35).
  12. Assembly according to claim 11, characterized in that the blocking catch (60), when the key plate (10) has not been slid away, is movable between the upper position and the lower position, through cooperation of the first lever handle catch (25) with the upper and lower stop edge (62,63), respectively, of the recess (61) made in the blocking catch (60).
  13. Assembly according to claim 11, characterized in that the blocking catch (60), when the key plate (10) has been slid away, is movable between the upper position and the intermediate position, through cooperation of the first lever handle catch (25) with the upper and lower stop edge (62, 63), respectively, of the recess (61) made in the blocking catch (60).
  14. Assembly according to claims 11-13, characterized in that the respective lower position and intermediate position of the blocking catch (60) have been defined by cooperation of a cam (64) arranged on the blocking catch (60) with a lowered edge (47) and a raised edge (48), respectively, on the sliding piece (40).
  15. Assembly according to any one of the claims 11-14, characterized in that the upper position of the blocking catch (60) is defined by rotating the first lever handle catch (25) out of engagement with the recess (61) in the blocking catch (60), at the location of the upper stop edge (62) of the recess (61).
  16. Assembly according to any one of the claims 11-15, characterized in that the transport catch (70) is able to move the arm (80) through cooperation of the second lever handle catch (35) with a protruding portion 77 of the transport catch (70).
  17. Assembly according to claim 15 or 16, when depending from claim 14, characterized in that the transport catch (70) has been connected to the blocking catch (60) through cooperation of a slot arranged in the transport catch (70) and the cam (64) arranged on the blocking catch (60).
  18. Assembly according to any one of the claims 11-17, characterized in that the sliding piece (40) has been provided with a stop edge (44) for, when the key plate (10) has been slid away, limiting the stroke of the first and/or second lever handle catch plate (20,30) the stop edge (44) cooperating with the first and/or second lever handle catch (25,35).
  19. Assembly according to any one of the claims 11-18, characterized in that in the intermediate position of the blocking catch (60) the lower stop edge (63) of the recess (61) made in the blocking catch (60) through cooperation with the first lever handle catch (25) serves as limitation for the stroke of the first lever handle catch plate (20).
  20. Assembly according to any one of the claims 7-19, characterized in that the front of the lock case (2) has been provided with an opening to give access to a surface of the sliding piece (40) in order to be able to slide away the sliding piece (40).
  21. Assembly according to any one of the claims 15-20, when depending from claim 14, characterized in that the side edge (49) between the raised (48) and the lowered edge (47) the sliding piece (40) defines a stop surface for the cam (64) arranged on the blocking catch (60) in order to prevent the sliding away of the sliding piece (40) in the lower position of the blocking catch (60).
  22. Assembly according to any one of the claims 8-21, characterized in that the assembly has been provided with a compliant plate-shaped element fixed with respect to the lock case (2), which element has parts protruding downwards from the plane of the plate, which parts cooperate with recesses (45,46) made in the sliding piece (40) in order to fixate the sliding piece (40) in the non-slid-away or the slid-away position, and with an opening (65) made in the blocking catch (60) in order to fixate the blocking catch (60) in the upper position, respectively.
  23. Assembly according to any one of the claims 4-22, characterized in that a pressed through edge in the lock case (2) ensures that the coupling piece is retained in position with respect to the lock case (2).
  24. Assembly according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the furniture knob hole is a square hole for attachment of a furniture knob having a square shaft.
  25. Door provided with a lock assembly according to any one of the preceding claims.
