Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aldehyden
Gebiet der Erfindung
Die Erfindung befindet sich auf dem Gebiet der Riechstoffe und betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von Fettaldehyden.
Stand der Technik
Niedere Aldehyde, wie beispielsweise 1-Octanal oder 1-Decanal stellen begehrte Rohstoffe für die Riechstoffindustrie dar. Ihre Herstellung ausgehend von Fettalkoholen ist aus dem Stand der Technik beispielsweise durch Oxidation mit Hypochlorit in Gegenwart von 4- ethoxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-l-yloxyl („Tempo") bekannt. Die Luftoxidation der Alkohole kann in Gegenwart von Ruthen- oder Platin-Katalysatoren erfolgen. Des weiteren lassen sich ungesättigte Alkohole unter dem Einfluß von Einsenpentacarbonyl zu Aldehyden isomerisieren. Ausgehend von Fettsäuren erhält man die Aldehyde durch Hydrierung an oxidischen Kupferkatalysatoren vom Adkins-Typ oder durch Umsetzung mit Persäuren in Gegenwart von Titan(IV)oxid. Über den Einsatz von heterogenen oxidischen Kupferkatalysatoren zur Dehydrierung von Fettalkoholen wird in RO 0111820 (Comb.Chim.Rimnicu Vilcea) berichtet. In der EP 0320074 AI (Engelhard) werden für den gleichen Zweck mit Eisen dotierte Kupferkatalysatoren vorgeschlagen. Eine klassische Methode stellt die Rosenmund- Reaktion dar, bei der man Säurechloride an Lindlar-Katalysatoren zu den entsprechenden Aldehyden hydriert. In diesem Zusammenhang sei auf die Übersichtsartikel in J.Am.Chem.Soc. 109, 3786 (1987), J.Org.Chem. 52, 2259 (1987) und Tetrahedron Lett. 28, 4575 (1987) hingewiesen.
Die bekannten Verfahren weisen jedoch den Nachteil auf, dass sie technisch aufwendig sind, niedrige Ausbeuten erbringen und/oder sich durch unbefriedigende Selektivitäten auszeichnen. Die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung hat dem entsprechend darin bestanden, ein neues Verfahren zur Verfügung zu stellen, welche die genannten Nachteile des Stands der Technik zuverlässig vermeidet.
Beschreibung der Erfindung
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aldehyden, bei dem man Fettalkohole in Gegenwart von oxidischen Kupfer/Zink-Katalysatoren bei Temperaturen im Bereich von 200 bis 280 °C und Drücken im Bereich von 10 mbar bis 1 bar kontinuierlich dehydriert.
Überraschenderweise wurde gefunden, dass unter Einsatz der genannten Katalysatoren die kontinuierlich Dehydrierung von Fettalkoholen zu Fettaldehyden in Ausbeuten oberhalb von 60 und mit Selektivitäten oberhalb von 90 % der Theorie gelingt.
Fettalkohole
Als Einsatzstoffe für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren eignen sich lineare oder verzweigte, gesättigte oder ungesättigte primäre Alkohole, die der Einfachheit halber unter der Bezeichnung Fettalkohole zusammengefaßt werden und vorzugsweise der Formel (I) folgen, in der

in der R1 für einen linearen oder verzweigten gesättigten oder ungesättigten Alkyl- und/oder Alkenylrest mit 6 bis 22, vorzugsweise 8 bis 12 und insbesondere 8 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen steht. Typische Beispiele sind Capronalkohol, Caprylalkohol, 2-Ethylhexylalkohol, Caprinalko- hol, Laurylalkohol, Isotridecylalkohol, Myristylalkohol, Cetylalkohol, Palmoleylalkohol, Stea- rylalkohol, Isostearylalkohol, Oleylalkohol, Elaidylalkohol, Petroselinylalkohol, ünolylalkohol, Linolenylalkohol, Elaeostearylalkohol, Arachylalkohol, Gadoleylalkohol, Behenylalkohol, Eru- cylalkohol und Brassidylalkohol sowie deren technische Mischungen, die z.B. bei der Hochdruckhydrierung von technischen Methylestern auf Basis von Fetten und Ölen oder Aldehyden aus der Roelen'schen Oxosynthese sowie als Monomerfraktion bei der Dimerisierung von ungesättigten Fettalkoholen anfallen. Bevorzugt ist der Einsatz von Caprylalkohol (1- Octanol), 2-Ethylhexanol und Caprinalkohol (1-Decanol) sowie deren Mischungen.
Synthese
Die Herstellung der Fettaldehyde findet vorzugsweise in einem Schachtreaktor mit Katalysatorfestbett statt. Bei den oxidischen Kupfer/Zink-Katalysatoren handelt es sich um kommerzielle Adkins-Kontakte, d.h. Feststoffe mit Spinellstruktur, die vorzugsweise als weitere Metallkomponenten Chrom, Cadmium, Cer, Barium, Silicium und/oder Aluminium enthalten. Besonders bevorzugt sind basische Kupfer/Zink/Aluminiumoxide. Üblicherweise findet die Reaktion bei Temperaturen im Bereich von 200 bis 280, vorzugsweise 240 bis 260 °C statt. Die Dehydrierung erfolgt entweder drucklos oder aber bei einem vermindertem Druck im Bereich von vorzugsweise 20 bis 40 mbar. Dabei kann die Liquid Hour Space Velocity (LHSV) im Bereich von 1 bis 3, vorzugsweise 1,1 bis 2,6 h"1 liegen. Die Ausbeute an Fettaldehyden liegt im Bereich von mindestens 60 und vorzugsweise 65 bis 70 % der Theorie, während die Selektivität mindestens 90 und vorzugsweise 95 bis 98 % beträgt. Es empfiehlt sich die Dehydrierung in Gegenwart von Stickstoff als Trägergas durchzuführen.
Beispiele
In einem kontinuierlichen Druckreaktor mit oxidischem Katalysatorfestbett wurden Fettalkohole bei einer Temperatur von 250 °C und Drücken im Bereich von 20 mbar bis Normaldruck zu den entsprechenden Aldehyden dehydriert. Die Versuchsergebnisse sind in Tabelle 1 zusammengefaßt. Die Aldehyde wurden in Ausbeuten von 60 bis 70 % und Selektivitäten von mehr als 90 % der Theorie erhalten.

2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man Fettalkohole der Formel (I) einsetzt,
RxOH (I)
in der R1 für einen linearen oder verzweigten gesättigten oder ungesättigten Alkyl- und/oder Alkenylrest mit 6 bis 22 Kohlenstoffatomen steht.
3. Verfahren nach den Ansprüchen 1 und/oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man Kupfer/Zink-Katalysatoren einsetzt, welche als weitere Metallkomponenten Chrom, Cadmium, Cer, Barium, Silicium und/oder Aluminium enthalten.
4. Verfahren nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man die Katalysatoren in einem Festbett anordnet.
5. Verfahren nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man die Dehydrierung bei Temperaturen im Bereich von 240 bis 260 °C durchführt.
6. Verfahren nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man die Dehydrierung bei Drücken im Bereich von 20 bis 40 mbar durchführt.
7. Verfahren nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man die Dehydrierung bei einer Liquid Hourly Space Velocity (LHSV) vom 1 bis 3 h"1 durchführt.
8. Verfahren nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man die Dehydrierung in Gegenwart von Stickstoff als Trägergas durchführt.
