Definitions

  • the present invention concerns pumping devices of volumetric type for transferring fluids.
  • the invention refers to a peristaltic pump for dosing a fluid into containers.
  • the known peristaltic pumps transfer fluid contained into an elastic hose, for instance made of plastic or silicon material, through the alternate squeezing of this latter.
  • Said pumps are generally constituted by a body having an inner cylindrical housing inside which it is positioned and rotated a flange, to which one or two idle squeezing rollers are peripherally fixed.
  • the hose piping the liquid is positioned inside said housing, in correspondence of the inner lateral walls thereof, in such a way to be cyclically and alternatively squeezed and partially subjected to traction or stretching by the rotating rollers. In this way fluid volumes are isolated and then progressively transferred from a suction section to a delivery section, using the elasticity of the same hose.
  • the dosing or delivery achievable in the unity of time is function of the hose inner diameter and of the revolving speed of the flange and the corresponding squeezing rollers. Said rotation is made by an electric motor, for instance a direct or alternating current motor, through the interposition of a mechanical speed reducer.
  • the dosing tolerance of said devices is approximately 5%, so that they are generally used only for transferring liquids, for instance from a tank to another one.
  • Said known devices allows the hose replacement, for instance for the maintenance, the washing and/or the size changeover, after a partial disassembly of said device.
  • the main drawback of the known devices consists in that the hose beside to be squeezed, it is also pulled and stretched by the rollers during their rotation.
  • the combination of said mechanical stresses is particularly heavy for the hose, damaging and reducing the duration of this latter.
  • the main object of the present invention is to propose a peristaltic pump for dosing a fluid into containers having such accuracy and precision which can be used for pharmaceutical product dosing.
  • Another object is to propose a peristaltic pump, in which the pumping hose is only squeezed in alternate and progressive way, without being pulled or stretched.
  • Another object is to propose a peristaltic pump directly rotated by an electric motor, without interposing speed reducers and, therefore, without positioning and moving clearances and inaccuracies.
  • Further object is to propose a peristaltic pump, which can be easily disassembled and accessible for the replacement of the pumping hose and the squeezing rollers.
  • Another object is to propose a pump having an easy and reliable use, a reduced maintenance, proof against the chemical-physics aggression of the fluids and easy to be washed and sterilized, both manually in its disassembled parts and automatically through in-line washing and sterilizing processes.
  • numeral 1 indicates peristaltic pump for dosing a fluid, particularly a liquid, essentially constituted by a body 2, a flange 4, two sleeve means 9, a cover 10, a motor 30 and a compensator mean 15.
  • the body 2 has a circular shaped housing 3 for a pumping hose 11 and rotatably supports, for instance by means of rolling bearings, the flange 4. This latter has in proximity of its peripheral edge four idle squeezing rollers 5, angularly equally spaced.
  • the external surface of the flange 4 is coplanar with the bottom surface of the housing 3. Gaskets, known and not shown, are interposed between the flange 4 and the body 2.
  • Each roller 5 is constituted by a shaft 51, rotatably supporting, for instance by means of two rolling bearings, an external ring 53 contacting the hose 11.
  • the shaft 51 has an end 52 having an eccentric axis with respect to the axis of said shaft 51. Said eccentricity allows to regulate the fixing position of the roller 5 on the flange 4, and consequently to calibrate the squeezing of the hose 11 on the housing 3.
  • the external ring 53 has an external side surface with convex bending, while the housing 3 has a concave bending.
  • the two bending, preferably complementary, contribute to hold and to retain in the exact position the hose 11 during the pump operation.
  • the hose 11 is connected at its ends to a suction duct 20 and delivery duct 21, both having a fitting 22, including an end shaped with protrusions and indentations. This latter tightly engages the corresponding end of the hose 11, fit on said shaped end and afterward closed and compressed between the two half-shells constituting the related tubular sleeve mean 9.
  • Each half-shell is internally shaped with protrusions and indentations nearly complementary to those of the shaped end of the fitting 22.
  • the closing and the compression of the half-shells and the following block of the hose 11 inside the housing 3, are made directly by means of the cover 10 that is fixed on the body 2 through one or more screws.
  • the body 2 has on the external wall a flat portion 19 that constitutes a supporting and fixing surface for the pump 1.
  • the compensator mean 15 is constituted by an hollow casing 16, that is in flow connection with the delivery duct 21, to which is removably fixed by means of a rapid connection 17, for instance of sanitary Tri-Clamp type. Said compensator mean 15 is fit to absorb and to cushion the outflow fluctuations of the fluid.
  • a further compensator mean 15 can be inserted on the suction duct 20 for absorbing the suction flow fluctuations of the fluid.
  • the flange 4 is rotated by the motor 30, to whose shaft 31 the flange is directly coupled.
  • the motor 30 is preferably of asynchronous brushless electric type and is enslaved to a control unity, not shown, that allows its related control in position, speed and acceleration during the operation.
  • All the pump parts are made of stainless steel, for instance AISI 304 or AISI 316 steel type: this material is resistant against the chemical-physics aggression of the alimentary and pharmaceutical fluids and is fit for the washings and the sterilizations provided for and requested in the production and packaging processes of said products.
  • the pumping hose 11 is made of synthetic material highly elastic and permanently indeformable, for instance silicone or polyurethane, and compatible with the fluid product to be transferred.
  • the hose is made, for instance, of strengthened platinum catalyzed silicone.
  • the pump object of the present invention besides to be washed and sterilized in its single disassembled parts, can be also subjected to washing and sterilization cycles in-place (the so-called CIP/SIP processes), without disassembling any single component.
  • the operation of the peristaltic pump 1 provides that the electric motor 30, rotating the flange 4, drives the idle rollers 5 to compress or squeeze alternatively and progressively the hose 11 against the walls of the housing 3, so operating the fluid flow through the hose 11.
  • the hollow casing 16 of the compensator mean 15 is partially filled with the pumped fluid.
  • the main advantage of the present invention is to provide a peristaltic pump for dosing a fluid into containers having such accuracy and precision that can be used in the pharmaceutical product dosing.
