Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method for processing and creating electronic Publication documents and the appropriate device for this.
  • publication documents there is no restriction for their later use.
  • print templates such as B. advertisements from the newspaper and magazine sector, but also publication documents for display on any electronic, visual display devices.
  • US-A-5 740 338 describes a method in which screened image data are combined with an image original and then output on a printer. This creates a new image, but not a new template that would itself be variable.
  • EP-A-0 837 401 describes a method in which templates are provided which contain placeholders in document positions as interchangeable parts which are supplied with different data by a process. Variables are assigned to the placeholders and the primary aim is to enable the same content to be output in different layouts on different printers. This is also about creating a final print template and not about creating a variable print template.
  • the object of the invention is to overcome the disadvantages described in the prior art to avoid and a method, a device, as well as an "intelligent" document format and a computer program for the remote-controlled creation and editing of Propose publication documents.
  • Content adjustments using the rules contained in these intelligent publication documents ensures that no unwanted design changes can occur.
  • the economic purpose of the invention is to save time and money, economical Benefits compared to the processes that are comparable with the current state of the art.
  • the production process at classic publication creation will greatly simplify and new more effective working conditions will create.
  • the invention can be used as a software system for controlling the underlying template technology can be realized, the software system comprising: a device for creation and processing of the templates on a remote computer system (server), whereby the template creation / processing takes place on the server and is controlled remotely a local web browser, as used today as standard on the Internet becomes; a facility for creating and editing the templates on a local Computer is an additional way to create these templates without a server to edit; a facility that enables remote control of content changes in publication documents make on a server computer system and then design and merge content in the templates again, using the remote-controlled input dialog on the one hand can be done via a standard web browser, for which an input control Preview of the changed publication document to the initiating browser dialog is provided and secondly via so-called batch interfaces to external processes automatically supplied with new content.
  • server remote computer system
  • the invention allows, for example, the difficult task in the context of corporate design Guidelines for a brand or campaign to create an appealing ad, for the end user on the very. much easier task reduced to choose between variants.
  • the overall task has not become easier, but it allows the complex Part to be done once for all subsequent processes.
  • About how exactly the division is determined, does not decide the kernel, but the one used with the kernel "intelligent" templates.
  • the invention can be used to target local advertisers (e.g. trading partners, branches, any person) with centrally specified design templates while maintaining a specified quality standard over the Internet content changes can make without destroying the design.
  • local advertisers e.g. trading partners, branches, any person
  • An agency commissioned by the trademark owner creates e.g. B. an ad that its set Corporate design corresponds.
  • This display serves as a sample display.
  • the invention enables local advertisers to modify or exchange over the Internet individual "approved" text and image elements while retaining all for the corporate Design relevant features.
  • the customization of the sample display can be done by the local Advertiser made independently in a user-friendly browser window become. Regional agencies are no longer involved.
  • the centrally created sample ad and the ad elements to be customized become further processing read into a computer program.
  • This sample ad and yours Replacement elements are e.g. B. from layout experts of an advertising agency with standard publishing programs produced and e.g. provided as an EPS file. So that is easy adaptation to the existing software environment ensured.
  • Both the Ad template as well as the ad elements used by the contractors for the modification available in your local area can be created in the usual way.
  • the brand owner and the commissioned agency submit with the corporate design guidelines centrally determine which display elements determine which display elements should be variable.
  • the replacement elements are also defined.
  • the contractual partners adjust the display in a browser window.
  • On Computer program on a remote computer (server) that is connected to the Internet Computer (client) of the contract partner is connected to the integration of the modified Ad elements taking into account the specified corporate design.
  • the template technology enables separation through parameterized print templates of design and content and thus significant increases in efficiency when processing Design in publishing documents.
  • Design and content can be created separately and be reused. The usual repetition of time-consuming, costly Processes and error-prone manual work steps when content changes eliminated.
  • the template technology is based on basic mechanisms of computer science that are based on a new way to be combined. These mechanisms include variables and the binding of variables to values, partial evaluation, formal parameters etc.
  • Template objects are defined. Like normal objects in object-oriented programming these template objects have a state due to the assignment of their variables is defined and "behavior" that is influenced by this assignment.
  • variables can also be used in template objects (still) unoccupied [template currying], they behave like the parameters of Procedures.
  • the unassigned (free) variables are parameters of the template.
  • a template objects "knows" which of its parameters are free and which are bound. Free parameters only can be influenced externally.
  • a template object is only created by combining it with an assignment of all of its free Variables completely.
  • An assignment is an assignment of variables (names) to values. They bind the free parameter variables of a template to specific values. Once they are bound, they are no longer available as parameters.
  • Template objects can also be combined with incomplete assignments those in which not all free variables of the template object are bound to a value become. This combination of template + bindings creates a new template object with the remaining free variables as parameters. This new object further refers to its constituents.
  • Bindings can also contain templates as values, these templates are then "Sub-templates" of the template to which they are bound. This can create a hierarchy of templates.
  • variable can also be bound to another variable become. So their value depends on the value of this other variable.
  • Structural inheritance is a special type of dependent binding.
  • the Value of a parameter variable is not bound to a specific other variable, but rather it the value of a variable with the same name of a higher-level template is adopted.
  • Structural inheritance can also be defined differently: as a dependent binding with multiple outputs (i.e. push vs. pull). This avoids undefined conditions.
  • the value of a variable can also be bound to any procedure that calculates this value. (This results from (a) the fact that procedures are a special case of templates and (b) values can also be templates. Furthermore, it follows that possibly parameters of the procedure fit back into the template / binding systematics).
  • Relationships between variables can also be defined. With these you can Calculate valid variable bindings from the system or it is determined that there are none valid occupancy there. These relationships can e.g. B. be arithmetic, logical, inequalities included etc. Dependent bonds are e.g. B. just a special case of relationships.
  • Templates can be refined to create new templates with additional behavior and additional free variables (and / or binding certain existing free variables) be generated.
  • Templates can be (again) created from concrete objects using fixed attributes / objects can be replaced by a parameter variable (the current value usually accepted as default). This is possible both for sub-objects as well for attributes.
  • the kernel together with the associated template technology, allows complexity to share problems in the creation of publication documents and treat parts separately.
  • the separation into is of great importance here the design objects and their processing.
  • the design objects are completely through their respective templates described and can be edited or evaluated via the kernel become.
  • the templates stand for the different design variants for controlled variant modification to disposal.
  • the described parameter binding only applies to the permissible ones “Desired” design variations restricted.
  • you can further design rules automatically generate “wanted” design variants.
  • All design variants are in the form of templates as electronic representation on a digital Storage medium and can be processed, varied, duplicated and as direct via the kernel electronic template for downstream processes can be converted. Suitable formats for downstream processes are currently B. EPS, TIFF, PDF, SVG, HTML and XML, it however, there is no limitation to this exemplary selection.
  • the kernel provides an always expandable virtual machine for processing templates derived templates for template variants. Expandable here means that the The kernel can grow in thickness as required. Just the kernel contains the knowledge of how the templates and the rules contained therein are to be carried out or implemented. So it is the central device for creating and Editing templates.
  • the method for creating templates is preferably based on a computer program and can run on both a local and a remote computer become.
  • the execution can be carried out by a natural person or by another computer program be remotely controlled.
  • the remote controlled process of creation and editing Standard technologies such as B. Internet, intranet and World Wide Web or WAP, however, is not limited to this.
  • the method for generating design variants is preferably also based on a computer program that runs on a local and a remote computer can be.
  • the execution can be by a natural person or by another Computer program can be controlled remotely.
  • Figure 1 shows schematically the essential steps for creating an inventive Templates by the designer or template creator.
  • the first step 11 one becomes logical unstructured print template in the computer program MetaAd Creator according to the invention read in to create templates.
  • This unstructured print template was created e.g. B. with a standard program and is in a print-ready format such as B. EPS, PS, PDF, SVG etc. and is then in process step 12 by the inventive Computer program MetaAd Creator analyzed and examined for graphic structural features.
  • the essential structural features found become a logical component structure built up.
  • the component structure optionally includes fixed and / or variable logical components.
  • Parameterisable suitable for the variable components Substitution elements are the designer or template creator as bound parameter names displayed via the user interface in the MetaAd Creator Assignment of the variable components of interest to any parameterizable Substitution elements.
  • the parameters can be set by the designer or template creator be restricted to a set of values in their value range. It can e.g. B. a certain color palette or a defined group of advertising texts as substitution elements be assigned. Sometimes, however, it makes sense not to limit the set of values. An example of this is when future users should be given the opportunity To be able to replace text components with any of your own texts.
  • step 15 the Parameterized print or design template created. all variable or replacement components and / or contains rules. This design template will be saved after on a digital data carrier such as B.

  • the remote controlled editing of his MetaAd templates by MetaAd Web-Deploy allows.
  • a design variant or template from the customer or User selected in step 24 by assigning the substitution elements to the variable parameters or component design variants of the MetaAd templates.
  • Design variants all designate the MetaAd templates, which in this way from the original template originally created by the designer or template creator, have arisen.
  • the original template is structurally identical, but is not overwritten by the one made Changes.
  • substitution elements such.
  • B. pictures or text elements a fixed range of values replaced by customer or user selection become.
  • the range of values for substitution elements does not necessarily have to be restricted but can also be unrestricted by the creator or designer Modification of parameter values must be open. For example, this can be useful if for Texts enables free text input or the assignment of colors to texts or geometries shall be.
  • substitution elements can also be provided as results of program calls become.
  • the MetaAd Batch-Deploy module becomes an automatic parameter binding used by program-generated values.
  • step 25 the print templates embedded in the MetaAd template are updated to the current one Parameter position of the substitution elements adjusted. This is the temporary design variant completed. If necessary, a preview image for checking is generated in step 26 for the visualization of the design variant to the web browser of the customer or: user is sent. This creates an interactive way of working with immediate control by visualizing all changes made to content and design in a design variant or the respective MetaAd original template.
  • this design variant is used for archiving in the customer or user directory for the one design variants filed. It can also be a suitable archive system Programmably connected via a configurable archiving interface become. This could include MetaAd templates, design variants and also substitution elements archived and managed.
