- the invention relates to a method for a user of a multimedia device enables further information to be contained in an audio and / or video data stream to obtain occurring information elements unknown to him.
- the US 5 973 685 patent describes a method for the transmission of additional information or references given to a user of a digital transmission medium to get presented.
- the additional information and references are provided along with the Transfer user data within the data stream.
- the process provides means for embedding of additional information in audio / video data streams in the form of frames, thus the information is transmitted frame-related.
- the user can Make selections from information coming from the data stream through the demultiplexing be removed so that no additional channel for the information is transmitted
- the additional information may consist of references that refer to refer to information sent on separate channels.
- the invention has for its object to provide the user with a broad information base to offer the messages received by the multimedia device.
- a user of a multimedia device is given the possibility of additional Information about the content of a television program, video or audio playback receive.
- a detection of several occurring information elements can be done by a already known process such as the closed caption in the USA and teletext subtitles in Europe. and / or by voice recognition, i.e. Automatic procedure Recognition of words in spoken sentences or individually spoken words, added become.
- An information element consists of a conceptual unit that contains the meaning (a summary of the essential characteristics of something).
- An analogous one Abbreviation, one or more words can be an information element.
- OCR image Character recognition process
- the recognized, mentioned in a television program from a past period and information items rated as rare are stored in a list.
- the Information elements in the list are sorted according to a selection criterion, e.g. probability of occurrence (Rarity) and depending on the time of entry (time of appearance) sorted so that the user finds the information elements that are of interest to him can select.
- a selection criterion e.g. probability of occurrence (Rarity) and depending on the time of entry (time of appearance) sorted so that the user finds the information elements that are of interest to him can select.
- the user can use the Screen of the multimedia device displayed, according to the FIFO (First In First Out) principle the working list of information elements or the Information elements in the list are explained in more detail.
- the ordered list is the Users are presented, according to a time and occurrence probability existing weighting sorts the information elements into the list.
- the User can set a limit on the probability of occurrence of the information elements in the Specify the data stream from which the information elements with a lower probability of occurrence recorded and presented in the list.
- the information one Website, a lexicon entry, a short video or a teletext page are in Form of PiP (Progam in Program) or by pausing the television program on the Screen appear.
- the occurring information elements filtered from the content of the broadcast based on the available speech information and a first list is generated from the information elements.
- the limit of probability of occurrence can be set by the user himself.
- Information elements for which none of the information sources of the multimedia device is a further one Information can also be recognized from the voice information (filtered) and discarded.
- the user selects the information element for further information be desired. If the multimedia device has no information in one first selected information source can be accessed from other information sources become.
- the multimedia device is a device of a digital home network
- the multimedia device can also any device equipped with sufficient storage capacity, e.g. created at night Save list.
- the Searching the accessible sources on the internet can be dispensed with and instead its a particularly strict filtering of the information elements according to the rarity / selection criterion be carried out, which is a sufficiently extensive collection of information elements on a media storage device such as CD / DVD.
- the current Information is then sent to the user after a query has been started Search engine are available on the internet as search engine results.
- Information sources of the multimedia device can use storage media such as digital versatile disks (DVD), a compact disk (CD) Internet, and other means.
- DVD digital versatile disks
- CD compact disk
- the information is stored on storage media such as DVD, CD, one updated by data provided by an internet provider Searched and loaded database or accessible Internet sources. The update the data may take place at a time when the user is not actively Multimedia device uses.
- the representation of the information available for the selected information element is depending on the source of the information. If the further information is off Film excerpts from a video retrieval service or a digital versatile disk (DVD) exist, the information in a program in the program (PiP) screen display of the multimedia device. A search engine of the Internet appears in the If the information comes from an external website as explanations.
- the user of the multimedia device is given the opportunity to do so to inform his wishes.
- the information can only be found at the request of User instead.
- the system can adapt information to the level of knowledge of the user offer by addressing the appropriate sources of information, so that an improvement in adaptability can be achieved. Because the continuing Do not transmit information in the broadcast audio / video data streams cooperation with the provider of the sent data is not necessary
- the Internet By using the Internet as a source of information, current information is particularly important available. In order to request further information, the user needs do not know the exact spelling of the information element, since that Information element in the sorted list on the screen of the multimedia device appears.
- the invention relates to a method for displaying further information to at least one information element in one processed by the multimedia device Audio and / or video data stream.
- Information elements recognized in the method are dependent on a from the time of occurrence of the information element and Selection criteria of existing weighting saved and further information to the information element selected by a user on an output unit of the multimedia device.
- a multimedia device 1 shown in FIG. 1 is a device of a digital home network and is integrated into the home network together with other devices.
- the multimedia device 1 is through a remote control 5, voice commands or other input mechanisms controllable.
- a storage medium e.g. a digital versatile disk (DVD) Playback device
- One by the Multimedia device 1 created list 3 contains those in an audio and / or video data stream occurring terms as information elements.
- the audio and / or video stream is processed by the multimedia device and reproduces the content which the user wishes for further information.
- a second list 4 with terms, for which further information is available on the storage medium 2 can be retrieved from this.
- a user of the home network sees one on a screen of the multimedia device 1 TV broadcast (audio and video data stream) and would like about that during the broadcast Country mentioned get further information.
- the first list 3 contains terms derived from the audio data stream of the program (for example "camel driver"), the video data stream (e.g. "Algiers”) and a subtitle stream (e.g. "CousCous”) have been extracted recently.
- the second list 4 that is out Terms exist for which further information is available on the digital versatile disk of the DVD playback device 2 are available, compared and the user on request presents.
- a button on the remote control 5 By pressing a button on the remote control 5, a list 6 appears Terms appearing in the program weighted according to a selection criterion of the User. From this list, the user chooses the term that interests him (e.g. "Couscous").
- the multimedia device 1 calls up this term on the Digital Versatile Disk of the DVD player stored information.
- the Further information (such as recipe and tradition) is available to the user on the Screen of the multimedia device in the form of a program in program (PiP) presents.
- the following are the parts of the program processed during the scenario described above of a controller responsible for control and management functions of a flow diagram shown in Fig. 2 and explained.
- the flow diagram exists in detail from an input stream 6, a screen 7, a request 12 and an input 15 and an explanation memory 18 and the following implemented within the controller Processing steps: a recognizer 8, a pre-filter 9, a concept filter 10, a Term list 11, two queries 13 and 16, one term selection generation 14, and one Explanation display 17.
- the audio and video input stream 6 is not only displayed on the screen 7 but also passed into the recognizer 8, which uses different mechanisms to express terms the input stream 6 extracted (e.g. by OCR on lettering appearing in the image, by voice recognition on the audio signal or by simple processing of the teletext subtitles).
- the output of the recognizer 8 are all in this way recognized terms.
- the pre-filter 9 resulting stream of terms is reduced by locally in the controller existing information terms are sorted out, which are highly likely for are not interesting to the user. In the simplest case, this will be a "stop word” list act on terms that occur frequently in the corresponding language (e.g. "and”, "or”, “der”, “die”, “das”, ...) contains.
- a term (word) recognized from the data stream is compared with the terms contained in the word list. If the term is not in the word list, the term is reproduced by a following program part.
- filter 10 can test several data stores for information on the term, term databases do not necessarily have to be static, but also by other programs that can be generated dynamically.
- An adaptation to the level of knowledge of the user can be implemented at this point in the program by specifying a limit value (cut level) of the probability of occurrence (frequency) of the term. For occurrence probabilities that are higher than the specified limit, the associated term is of no interest to the user and is therefore not reproduced by the program part.
- the terms (word) that are not sorted out by the prefilter 9 and the term filter 10 are stored in a term list 11.
- the list created works according to the FIFO (First In First Out) principle, so that only the terms that have occurred recently are included.
- the following part of the program stores a term together with its time of appearance in a corresponding global list.
- the selection criterion corresponds to a frequency of occurrence of the term.
- the variable N gives the length of the list to be displayed and W1 or W2 a weighting of the term consisting of the time of occurrence and frequency of occurrence.
- This list is now displayed on the screen, giving the user the opportunity to Selection of a term given (for example, using the number buttons on the remote control). As soon as the user has made his selection, this is entered by entering 15 Query 16 communicated after the choice of a term. Query 16 is answered in the affirmative, and the associated additional information (e.g. a video data stream or a Text) fetched by the explanation display 17 from the explanation memory 18 and on the Screen 7 appears.
- additional information e.g. a video data stream or a Text
- the user can to the player names recognized by voice recognition, pictures of the players and / or theirs CVs on an output unit of the multimedia device 1 from a corresponding Request information source.
- the recognizer 8 operates speech recognition in this case.
- memory 18 it is either one supplied (for example with a sports magazine) CD or data stored on one or more websites (such as football clubs) with which an index was created and stored on the memory.
- filter 10 will Include only terms contained in the index in the FIFO list.
- further Information takes place approximately as in the detailed example in FIG. 1 indicated via an additional existing screen, but can also by Speech recognition and synthesis on the input / output options of the hi-fi device remain limited.
- the user finds a particularly useful application of the multimedia device 1 during the tracking of any program in a foreign language.
- an as Information source serving DVD dictionary gives the user the opportunity given to request a translation for unknown words in the foreign language.
- pre-filter 9 becomes one on the DVD, which corresponds to the explanation memory 18, must contain the list contained (in Fig. 2 flow chart), since it is of a different language needs to be adjusted. If the DVD is delivered together with a language course, see above the term filter 10 becomes less due to a general frequency distribution of the Terms, but rather enter those words in the list that the user has not learned or only recently learned in the previous course.
- a user who practices distance learning through an educational program can use a textbook that fits the educational program and is stored on a DVD through parallel information (educational program and supplementary specialist book) on one to understand effectively.
- a provider of share information on the Internet provides the user with an optical one Character recognition method (OCR) available to the user during a Consignment allowed to express terms of words and abbreviations on the Detect running treadmill screen so that current information about the Contents (stock market prices) of the treadmill can be called up on the Internet.
- OCR optical one Character recognition method
- the ability to provide a user with inexpensive information about stock prices at the same time provides extensive background information on stocks, Companies etc.
- the recognition is carried out by OCR on a limited area of the Screen. If an area to be processed by the recognizer 8 is sufficient for the Ticker tape can be restricted, a pre-filter is unnecessary should the information provider also be sure to follow all the abbreviations that appear on the treadmill To have information, the term filter 10 can also be omitted. In this case it is Explanation memory 18 a website of the information provider and the explanation display 17 will only call up the further information from there at the request of the user.
- a manufacturer offers a data package, for example. in the form of a compact disk (CD) to the user on.
- the user can use a multimedia device during a sales broadcast by a competitor all product names displayed on the screen of the multimedia device by starting a query on the multimedia device via the on the CD saved product offers from the manufacturer as a comparison to the sales shipment get informed.
- CD compact disk
- the CD contains product information and an index of the existing ones Products, therefore filtering according to a special frequency list does not take place.
- the term filter only selects all terms available on the CD for storage in the FIFO list. Possibly. the acceptance of user input is suppressed (request 12) and information is automatically displayed when a competing product mentioned
