Definitions
- the invention relates to a low-pressure discharge lamp according to the preamble of claim 1 and a provided reducing agent.
- Such low-pressure discharge lamps known for example from EP 0 569 814 B1 are commonly used as fluorescent lamps or L-lamps designated.
- a discharge vessel of these lamps contains at least one filling an inert gas and mercury.
- the inner peripheral wall of the discharge vessel is coated with phosphors, the chemical composition of which is the spectrum of the emitted light or the color tone determined.
- phosphors the chemical composition of which is the spectrum of the emitted light or the color tone determined.
- the invention is based on the object of a low-pressure discharge lamp to create a minimal amount of mercury in the discharge vessel is to be brought in.
- a discharge vessel contains a low-pressure discharge lamp a reducing agent that is capable of both at room temperature and at higher temperatures up to 900 ° C, e.g. Discharge conditions that in the discharge vessel contained mercury oxide to reduce and make the oxygen irreversible to tie. That is, the invention is not only at room temperature and in the event of discharge conditions, the oxygen present in the discharge vessel is bound, but also reduces existing mercury oxides, for example are present when the mercury is introduced or arise during operation.
- the This solution can reduce mercury consumption to a minimum, so that only a comparatively small amount of mercury is required to operate the Lamp is required. This enables it to be tightened across Europe by the legislation to comply with the specified upper limits.
- the reducing agent must be selected so that both at room temperature and the formation of mercury oxide is avoided even at higher temperatures or undone.
- the reducing agent consists of two substances consists.
- a substance A that is capable of oxygen at room temperature to tie.
- the reducing agent contains a substance B, the higher Temperatures irreversibly binds the oxygen released by substance A and Mercury oxide reduced. That is, the two substances A, B complement each other, so that a reduction in mercury oxide and oxygen binding in the overall temperature range is guaranteed.
- Mixing suitable substances can reduce this of the reducing agent according to the invention thus optimal to the operating conditions be adapted to the low pressure discharge lamp.
- substance A is a metal or a metallic Compound, but not an amalgam
- substance B is a material contains, whose oxide has a higher binding energy than the oxide of substance A, so that it is the oxide of the substance at discharge conditions and higher temperatures A can reduce and bind the oxygen.
- substance A contains oxides unintentionally when it is introduced and substance B is chosen so that it contains these oxides and the mercury oxide at higher temperatures reduced and stores the released oxygen.
- the reducing agent according to the invention is preferably in the form of a powder or shaped body introduced into the discharge vessel.
- the construction of the low-pressure discharge lamp is particularly simple if the reducing agent is introduced as a coating on a carrier on which also getter substances are upset.
- the effect of the reducing agent can be improved if this after Introduction into the discharge space by increasing the temperature and / or interaction is activated with a high-frequency field, so that the unwanted oxidized Substance A is reduced to pure metal and thus its reducing activity at low temperatures.
- the figure shows a schematic sectional illustration of a discharge vessel 2 Low-pressure discharge lamp 1.
- This discharge vessel 2 has a glass jacket that cylindrical or, in the case of so-called compact lights, also ring-shaped or U-shaped can be.
- a pump tube 4 formed, which is melted after filling.
- the inner peripheral wall of the discharge vessel 2 is provided with a phosphor coating 6. at high-quality fluorescent lamps contain these, for example, rare earth phosphors.
- the discharge vessel 2 further contains two electrodes, one of which is shown in the figure only one electrode 8 is shown.
- This electrode 8 can for example be formed by a helix that does not have two power leads 10, 12 shown connecting pins of the low-pressure discharge lamp 1 are connected.
- the power supplies 10, 12 are inside the discharge vessel 1 held together with a glass bead 14.
- the ones made of tungsten wire Electrodes 8 are coated with an emitter, which ensures the exit of the electrons facilitate in a discharge space 16 of the discharge vessel 2.
- the electrode 8 is of an annular cap 18 surrounded, which ensures that the ignition and operation of the lamp 1 materials evaporating from the electrode no piston blackening cause.
- At least one noble gas is introduced through the pump tube 4 at a pressure of approximately 10 3 Pa.
- the mercury can be supplied directly or - as mentioned at the beginning - as an intermetallic compound, for example Ti x Zr y Hg z .
- a reducing agent according to the invention 20 provided, which is introduced, for example, as a shaped body or in powder form becomes.
- the electrode 8 is encompassing Ring cap 18 cut open in the circumferential area, so that in the emerging Gap the reducing agent 20 according to the invention can be introduced.
- This can, for example, be pressed into a shaped body and into the ring cap 18 are used or via a supporting structure, for example a Wire mesh can be fixed.
- a particularly elegant solution is to use the reducing agent 20 in the form of Introduce tablets or on a carrier material in the discharge vessel 2 to which a getter substance is also applied or contained. So could the ring cap 18 contain circumferential recesses that the getter material and the invention Containing reducing agents in a mixture or separately.
- the reducing agent according to the invention has the task bind the available oxygen at room temperature. Furthermore it must be ensured that under discharge conditions and in the temperature range up to 900 ° C the oxygen remains in the reducing agent and if necessary. still existing Mercury oxide is reduced. This can cause the Formation of mercury oxide can be avoided or reversed.
- Around To meet conditions binding of oxygen in the range between room temperature and temperatures up to 900 ° C is preferably one of several components existing reducing agent used.
- the reducing agent consist of a mixture of Fe and Zr, the mixing ratio 4: 1 (mass fractions). With a conventional fluorescent lamp it is sufficient, for example, about 40 mg of such a mixture in the discharge vessel 2 to bring.
- this reducing agent was in the finished lamp of an RF field for 15 seconds to an activation temperature of about 800 ° C.
- an activation temperature of about 800 ° C.
- the reducing agent is introduced 20 oxides formed on substance A (Fe) are reduced by substance B (Zr), so that the Substance A is ready to bind oxygen at room temperature.
- the lamp is ready for operation - the reducing agent consisting of two components ensures that oxygen is bound and any mercury oxide that may arise is reduced, so that the mercury consumption compared to conventional solutions can be significantly reduced.
- the reducing agent according to the invention was proposed the commissioning of the lamp is not activated.
- this experiment after 100 Hours of burning no free mercury can be detected. This can be done This explains that substance A (Fe) passes through when it is introduced into the discharge vessel Atmospheric oxygen is oxidized and therefore no absorption capacity for the oxygen Has room conditions.
- the activation of the reducing agent should therefore at least be an important feature in the combination of Fe / Zr.
- substance B in such a way that it is able, even one not to reduce activated substance A and mercury oxide so that the Substance A is again able to absorb oxygen at room temperature.
- Substance B should be selected so that its oxide has a higher binding energy than the oxide of substance A and is able to oxidize the oxide at temperatures up to 900 ° C Reduce substance A and the mercury oxide.
- Substances A and B should be included the largest possible surface area can be introduced into the discharge vessel, the Mixing ratio should be chosen so that the oxygen brought by substance A. can be absorbed by substance B.
- both components are preferred mixed.
- a low-pressure discharge lamp with a discharge vessel Contains mercury. To avoid the consumption of mercury is in the discharge vessel introduced a reducing agent which is designed such that it contains oxygen in the temperature range between room temperature and discharge conditions binds and can also reduce mercury oxide.
