Definitions
- the invention relates to a low-pressure discharge lamp according to the preamble of patent claim 1 and a reducing agent provided for this purpose.
- Such example from the EP 0 569 814 B1 known low-pressure discharge lamps are generally referred to in the linguistic usage as a fluorescent lamp or L-lamp.
- a discharge vessel of these lamps contains a filling of at least one inert gas and mercury.
- the inner circumferential wall of the discharge vessel is covered with phosphors whose chemical composition determines the spectrum of the emitted light or the color tone.
- phosphors whose chemical composition determines the spectrum of the emitted light or the color tone.
- the GB-A 2 077 487 discloses a getter composition for discharge lamps or electron tubes.
- the getter comprises a partially sintered getter material based on titanium and zirconium and a zirconium vanadium-iron alloy which is mixed with the aforementioned getter material and has a larger particle size than this getter material.
- the invention has for its object to provide a low-pressure discharge lamp in which a minimum amount of mercury is to be introduced into the discharge vessel.
- a discharge vessel of a low-pressure discharge lamp contains a reducing agent which is capable both at room temperature and at higher temperatures up to 900 ° C, such as for example to reduce discharge conditions, the mercury oxide contained in the discharge vessel and irreversibly bind the oxygen. That is, according to the invention not only at room temperature and under discharge conditions, the oxygen present in the discharge vessel is bound, but also reduces existing mercury oxides, which are present for example when introducing the mercury or arise during operation. The mercury consumption can be reduced to a minimum by this solution, so that only a comparatively small amount of mercury is required to operate the lamp. This makes it possible to comply with the Europe-wide tightened upper limits imposed by law.
- the reducing agent must be chosen so that the formation of mercury oxide is avoided or reversed both at room temperature and at higher temperatures.
- the reducing agent consists of two substances.
- a substance A capable of binding the oxygen at room temperature.
- the reducing agent contains a substance B, which irreversibly binds the oxygen released from substance A at higher temperatures and reduces mercury oxide. That is, the two substances A, B complement each other, so that a reduction of the mercury oxide and binding of the oxygen is ensured in the total temperature range.
- the production of the low-pressure discharge lamp is also possible in a simple manner if the substance A contains unwanted oxides during introduction and the substance B is chosen such that it reduces these oxides and the mercury oxide at higher temperatures and stores the released oxygen.
- the reducing agent according to the invention is introduced into the discharge vessel as powder or shaped body.
- the structure of the low-pressure discharge lamp is particularly simple when the reducing agent is introduced as a coating of a carrier on which getter substances are also applied.
- the effect of the reducing agent can be improved if it is activated after introduction into the discharge space by increasing the temperature and / or interaction with a high-frequency field, so that the unwanted oxidized substance A is reduced to pure metal and thus its reducing activity at low temperatures again receives.
- the figure shows a schematic sectional view of a discharge vessel 2 of a low-pressure discharge lamp 1.
- This discharge vessel 2 has a glass jacket which may be cylindrical or in the case of so-called compact lamps also ring or U-shaped.
- a pump tube 4 is formed on an end face of the discharge vessel 2, for example, by pinching, which is melted off after filling.
- the inner peripheral wall of the discharge vessel 2 is provided with a phosphor coating 6.
- these contain rare earth phosphors.
- the discharge vessel 2 further includes two electrodes, of which only one electrode 8 is shown in the figure.
- This electrode 8 may for example be formed by a helix, which are connected via two power supply lines 10, 12 with pins, not shown, of the low-pressure discharge lamp 1.
- the electrode 8 is surrounded by a ring cap 18, which ensures that the materials which evaporate from the electrode during ignition and during operation of the lamp 1 do not cause bulb blackening.
- At least one noble gas is introduced through the pump tube 4 at a pressure of about 10 3 Pa.
- the mercury can be supplied directly or, as mentioned above, as an intermetallic compound, for example Ti x Zr y Hg z .
- a reducing agent 20 according to the invention is provided in the discharge space 16 and is introduced as a shaped body or in powder form.
- the electrode 8 encompassing annular cap 18 is cut in the peripheral region, so that in the resulting gap, the reducing agent 20 according to the invention can be introduced.
- this can be pressed, for example, into a shaped body and inserted into the annular cap 18 or else fixed via a supporting construction, for example a wire mesh.
- a particularly elegant solution is to introduce the reducing agent 20 in the form of tablets or on a carrier material in the discharge vessel 2, on which a getter substance is applied or contained. So could the ring cap Contain 18 circumferential recesses containing the getter material and the reducing agent of the invention in admixture or separately from each other.
- the reducing agent according to the invention has the task of binding the oxygen present at room temperature. Furthermore, it must be ensured that under discharge conditions and in the temperature range up to 900 ° C, the oxygen remains in the reducing agent and if necessary. remaining mercury oxide is reduced. As a result, during the operation of the lamp, the formation of mercury oxide can be avoided or reversed.
- the reducing agent consists of a mixture of Fe and Zr wherein the mixing ratio is 4: 1 (mass fractions). In a conventional fluorescent lamp, for example, it is sufficient to introduce about 40 mg of such a mixture into the discharge vessel 2.
- this reducing agent To activate this reducing agent, it was brought to an activation temperature of about 800 ° C. in the finished lamp by means of an HF field for 15 seconds. As a result of this activation, the oxides formed on the substance A (Fe) during the introduction of the reducing agent 20 are reduced by the substance B (Zr), so that the substance A is ready to bind oxygen at room temperature. After this activation, the lamp is ready for use - the two-component reducing agent ensures that oxygen is bound and possibly resulting mercury oxide is reduced, so that the mercury consumption compared to conventional solutions can be significantly reduced.
- Two Hg-free triple band lamps identical in construction were produced, one of the lamps containing an Fe / Zr based reducing agent according to the invention with the above-described mixing ratio. In both lamps an additional 4 mg of powdered mercury oxide was introduced. Both lamps were put into operation and it was checked after a predetermined burning time, whether free mercury has formed. After a burning time of For about 100 hours more than 0.2 mg of free mercury could be measured in the lamp according to the invention, while in the comparative lamp (without reducing agent) no free mercury was detectable.
- the reducing agent according to the invention was not activated before the lamp was put into operation. In this experiment, no free mercury could be detected after 100 hours of burning time.
- the substance A (Fe) is oxidized by atmospheric oxygen when introduced into the discharge vessel and thus has no absorption capacity for the oxygen under ambient conditions.
- the activation of the reducing agent should thus be an important feature at least in the case of the combination Fe / Zr.
- other substances A and B can be selected, but these are not part of the present claimed invention.
- substance A all metals or metallic compounds which absorb up to 900 ° C to a sufficient extent oxygen from the gas phase and are not Amalgamstoryner.
- Substance B is to be selected so that its oxide has a higher binding energy than the oxide of substance A and is capable of reducing the oxide of substance A and the mercury oxide at temperatures up to 900 ° C.
- the substances A and B should be introduced with the largest possible surface in the discharge vessel, wherein the mixing ratio is to be chosen so that the oxygen brought by the substance A can be absorbed by the substance B.
- both components are preferably mixed.
- a low-pressure discharge lamp with a discharge vessel containing mercury.
- a reducing agent is introduced into the discharge vessel, which is designed such that it binds oxygen in the temperature range between room temperature and under discharge conditions and, moreover, can reduce mercury oxide.
