Von besonderer Bedeutung für den erfindungsgemäßen Schalldämpfer ist somit, daß das Innenblech und das Außenblech des Gehäusemantels über geeignete Abstandshalter großflächig auf einem solchen Abstand zueinander gehalten werden, daß ein zumindest im wesentlichen in Umfangsrichtung durchgehender, ununterbrochener Luftringspalt zwischen den beiden Lagen des Mantels entsteht, welcher über mindestens ein in dem Innenblech oder aber dem Außenblech angeordnetes Entlüftungsloch zum Inneren des Schalldämpfers bzw. in die Umgebung belüftet ist. Die erfindungsgemäß vorgesehenen Abstandshalter sorgen somit insbesondere auch in Bereichen starker Krümmung, wie sie bei typischen ovalen Schalldämpfern vorkommen, für die Möglichkeit eines Gasaustausches zwischen den beiden Blechen. Dies ist ein bedeutender Aspekt des erfindungsgemäßen Schalldämpfers gegenüber bekannten Schalldämpfern mit einem aus einem zweilagigen Blech gefertigten Gehäusemantel.
