Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain a constant gap between an inner and an outer cylinders and prevent the discoloration of plating on the surface of the outer cylinder, by distributing a plurality of gap-maintaining point projections on the outside of the inner cylinder or the inside of the outer cylinder of a double-structured exhaust pipe.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust pipe 10, which is connected to the exhaust passage 4 of an engine E, consists of an outer cylinder 11 whose surface is plated and an inner cylinder 12. A flange 13 on the upper end of the exhaust pipe is coupled to another flange 5 on the exhaust passage 4 to attach the exhaust pipe. A muffler 6 is connected to the lower end of the exhaust pipe. A plurality of point projections 12a are distributed on the entire outside of the inner cylinder 12 to retain a space (g) betweem the inner and the outer cylinders not to reduce the distance between them. Even if the inner cylinder suffers from a very high temperature and is thermally deformed outward, the inner cylinder is surely prevented from coming into contact with the outer cylinder 11 and the plating on the surface of the outer cylinder is protected from discoloration.
