  • Clothespins are traditionally made up of two identical wooden or synthetic branches, mounted in opposite directions, which can pivot relative to each other. Each branch has a rear part forming a lever arm, and a front part forming a jaw, located opposite the corresponding jaw of the other branch, and cooperating with this other jaw.
  • a spring connects the two branches and urges them in the direction of clamping the jaws against each other, thus allowing them to clamp a piece of laundry to be hung for drying.
  • clothespins made of synthetic material molded in one piece, so as to form the two branches as well as a thin connection zone, forming a hinge - see for example patent applications EP 0 302 135, EP 0 641 882 and WO 93/23602.
  • the branches of the clothespins are rigid parts or parts, which has drawbacks, especially at the jaws.
  • these jaws have a relatively smooth surface, the maintenance of the linen is insufficient, and it risks slipping and escaping from the clamp, under the effect of its own weight or other stresses, such as wind.
  • the clothespins are often provided with jaws with serrated profile, which achieve better hanging of the laundry;
  • this configuration has the disadvantage of "marking" the laundry more or less strongly, at the clamp locations.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by providing an improved clothespin which substantially improves the maintenance of the while avoiding its "marking", the proposed clothespin remaining simple in structure and economical to manufacture.
  • the jaw parts of the two branches are internally lined with a coating of a relatively flexible material intended to form the contact surface with Laundry.
  • the clothespin object of the invention has, as an essential feature, the fact of being made of two separate materials, a more flexible material being provided on the inner side of the jaws. This flexible material forms "pads" which, when using the clamp, are crushed elastically and thus ensure excellent retention of the laundry, especially since the surface quality of the flexible material used, such as silicone or foam , opposes sliding.
  • This flexible material can in particular take the form of two separate small pads, fixed respectively on the inner side of the jaw parts of the two branches of the clothespin.

  • the flexibility of the material of such a "U” -shaped piece naturally allows it to deform, to "follow" the relative movement of the two branches, when the clothespin is opened or closed.
  • the flexible material parts can be obtained by an industrial technique of bi-injection or overmolding, simultaneously ensuring their formation and their fixation on the corresponding branches.
  • the flexible material parts can also be fixed by gluing, or by interlocking, on the two branches made of a harder material.
  • the efficiency of the flexible material parts can be increased by widening these parts, as well as the jaw parts of the two branches, relative to the rest of the clothespin branches, which allows both:

  • Figure 1 shows a clothespin, which comprises two elongated branches 1 and 2, connected to each other at an intermediate point of their length by a thin veil of material 3.
  • the assembly of the two branches 1 and 2 and of the web 3 is made in one piece, by molding, in a relatively hard synthetic material, the web 3 retaining, however, because of its small thickness, a certain flexibility allowing it to play the role of a hinge.
  • Each branch 1 or 2 has a rear part, respectively 4 or 5, forming a lever arm, and a front part, respectively 6 or 7, forming a jaw.
  • a helical spring 8 for returning to the closed position is mounted between the two branches 1 and 2, the spring 8 being positioned, by its ends, on two bosses 9 and 10 formed respectively on the inner side of the rear parts 4 and 5, located facing each other, of the two branches 1 and 2.
  • the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2, forming jaws, are also located opposite one another, and they are coated internally with a flexible material. More particularly, in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, there is provided a single piece 11 of "U" profile, of flexible material such as silicone or foam, which forms two opposite wings 12 and 13 connected together by a intermediate zone 14.
  • the two wings 12 and 13 are applied and fixed respectively against the internal faces of the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2, while the intermediate zone 14 is applied against the thin web 3.
  • the internal faces 15 and 16 respectively of the two wings 12 and 13, facing one another, have a wavy profile and constitute, when using the clothespin, the contact surfaces with the laundry.
  • FIG. 2 represents a clothespin of the same general design as that of FIG. 1, with regard to its two branches 1 and 2 and the web of material 3 connecting these two branches 1 and 2, this assembly being further produced from a single piece of relatively rigid synthetic material.
  • the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2, forming jaws here receive respectively, on their internal faces, two small pads 17 and 18 made of flexible material, thus placed opposite.
  • the pads 17 and 18 are positioned in abutment against the shoulders of the parts 6 and 7 forming jaws.
  • the respective internal faces 19 and 20 of these two pads 17 and 18, facing one another, are here relatively smooth and constitute, when using the clothespin, the contact surfaces with the laundry. As before, thanks to the flexibility of the material constituting the two pads 17 and 18, and the crushing of the latter, a very good hold of the linen is obtained, without "marking" effect.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates the application of the invention to another type of clothespin, comprising two substantially parallel branches 1 and 2, secured in the rear part 21 of the clothespin, this type of clothespin being in particular distributed in northern European countries.
  • the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2, here again forming jaws, are as in the previous examples furnished with a coating of flexible material, in comparison with the rest of the clamp which is made of relatively hard material, having however a certain elasticity in the region of the two branches 1 and 2.
  • the flexible part here again takes the form of two buffers 17 and 18 fixed on the interior faces of the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2.
  • the fixing of the two pads 17 and 18 of flexible material on the respective front parts 6 and 7 of the two branches 1 and 2 can be produced, during the manufacture of clothespins, according to various methods: bi-injection, overmolding, gluing, interlocking, snap-fastening. It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiments of this clothespin which have been described above, by way of examples; on the contrary, it embraces all of the variant embodiments and applications respecting the same principle.
