Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for printing on a substrate for preparing packaging blanks. The substrate is divided into copies, each of these copies having one or more areas for subsequent application of an adhesive, and a printed image produced on the copy by application of an ink film and coated with a lacquer. It is an object of the present invention to develop a method and apparatus for printing on a substrate for preparing packaging blanks, for which specially manufactured lacquer plates are not required.Pursuant to the present invention, this object is accomplished based on the fact that an ink film and a binder customarily used for offset printing inks are used to produce a printed image on a substrate and a lacquer is applied over the surface of the substrate, wherein the binder is applied at areas intended for application of an adhesive and the lacquer is absorbed by the binder.

Description

The invention relates to a method for printing a substrate for the production of packaging blanks, wherein the substrate is divided into useful, these benefits areas for the subsequent adhesive application, by applying a color layer, a print image on the benefit is generated and this printed image with a paint is coated.

For painting the surfaces of substrates in packaging technology, it is customary to use specially copied printing plates as coating plates. These are provided with partial recesses to keep the adhesive tabs of the packaging blanks free of paint. Helmut Teschner, 9th Edition 1995, page 11/43 this method has been presented in the textbook "Offset printing". The disadvantage here is that special coating plates are required and these coating plates pull high production costs.

From US 5,165,967 a method is known in which a different gloss effect between the edge region and a central part of a printed image to be generated. This is done by printing two colors that have different drying times. The drying time of one of these colors can be extended by the addition of a varnish. The physical effect, which is exploited here, is the nature of the surface (reflection property) of the ink layer, which depends on the degree of dryness, at the moment of coating. The timely application of the lacquers is crucial for success.

The object of the invention is to develop a method for printing a printing substrate for the production of packaging blanks, in which no specially prepared paint plates are required.

According to the invention the object is achieved by the features of the first claim.

The invention has the advantage that now a single coating plate can be used for several print jobs. This paint plate is free of partial recesses. Thus, the manufacturing costs can be extremely reduced. Because the paint board for several This can result in shorter set-up times. Furthermore, only one painting unit or one coating tower is required.

As can be seen from FIG. 1, this sheet-fed offset printing machine consists of printing units 31, 32, 13 arranged in series. In the figure, three printing units 31, 32, 13 are shown by way of example, wherein the implementation of the method according to the invention is also possible with only two printing units is.

The printing units 31, 32, 13, a feeder 1 is arranged upstream. The structure and function of the investor 1 are known, so that it need not be discussed in detail here. The printing units 31, 32, 13 each consist of a counter-pressure cylinder 21, 22, 25, one plate cylinder 5 and one blanket cylinder 6 (plate cylinder 5 and blanket cylinder 6 are indicated in the figure only in the printing unit 31). The sheet travel direction is indicated by an arrow. Recognizable are further enclosed by two counter-pressure cylinders 21, 22, 25 sheet guiding cylinder 71, 72, which can also be designed as a turning drum at an insertable in perfecting printing press. Back pressure cylinders 21, 22, 25 and sheet guiding cylinders 71, 72 are double-diameter diameter sheet-guiding cylinders. The colorant and dampening units belonging to each printing unit 31, 32 are not shown here. The printing unit 31 may be associated with a dryer 111.

The printing units 31, 32 shown here are provided for printing a color system which contains colors with radiation-drying constituents, which are generally UV-drying. But it is also possible to use the printing units 31, 32 for the printing of other colors. For example, those may be inks suitable for offset printing.

After the printing unit 32, the printing unit 13 is arranged, which is provided for coating the intended for the adhesive application surfaces of the benefits.

Dem Gegendruckzylinder ist ein Bogenführungszylinder 75 vorgeordnet.in sheet travel direction after the printing unit 13, a coating tower 4 is arranged, which serves to coat the printed image with a lacquer layer. This lacquer layer is also radiation-drying here. The paint tower 4 consists of the impression cylinder 26, which is associated with a paint form cylinder 8. On the paint form cylinder 8, a paint plate 81 is clamped. The impression cylinder is preceded by a sheet guiding cylinder 75.

The paint form cylinder 8 and the paint plate 81 is assigned here an anilox roller 9. To paint supply this anilox roller 8 a chamber doctor blade 10 is employed. The coating tower 4 is further associated with a dryer 112.

After the coating tower 4 a display 12 is provided. The structure and function of the display 12 are known, so that will not be discussed further here.

Mit der an Hand von Figur 1 beschriebenen Einrichtung wird folgendes erfindungsgemäßes Verfahren realisiert:With the device described with reference to FIG. 1, the following method according to the invention is realized:

The printed sheet provided in the feeder 1 is grasped by means not described in more detail here and placed on the sheet path (arrow direction). In the printing units 31, 32 is applied over the blanket cylinder 6, the color of a first color system. Color system is understood to mean a complex of colors which have essentially the same processing properties.

The color system used in the printing units 31, 32 may contain proportionally a curable under radiation (in the embodiment under ultraviolet radiation) curing. Such colors are referred to as hybrid colors. But it is also possible to use colors that are suitable for offset printing, or other colors, such as pure UV inks.

The colors may optionally be dried by the dryer 111.

In the printing unit 13, the color of another color system is applied to the space provided for the adhesive application. This color system contains no or only a small number of color pigments.

In coating tower 4 is a full-surface coating of the substrate with a colorless paint. In this case, a paint is used, which has the property of interacting differently with the applied paint systems. This is done in such a way that the coating is absorbed by the coating (second color system) of the surfaces intended for applying the adhesive, but remains largely on the surface on other surfaces provided with colors of the first color system and gives it a gloss effect.

The prerequisite for the occurrence of the above-mentioned effect is that the two color systems deviate from each other in terms of their paint absorption capacity. In this case, the gloss level is inversely proportional to the absorption capacity of the paint system to the paint, wherein in paint layers with paint systems lower resorption more paint remains on the surface and color layers of higher Resorptionsfähigkeit a higher proportion of the color layer is added. The gloss-determining components of the paint are from the color layer added. This coating then forms a suitable base for the subsequent application of the adhesive.

The structure of the sheetfed offset printing press for implementing the method according to embodiment 2 largely corresponds to the configuration shown in FIG.

Instead of a second color system is here by the printing unit 13 a suitable for offset printing binder, usually varnish, printed.

When coating the paint in the paint tower 4 over the entire surface, the above-described effect with regard to the absorption of the paint by the binder likewise occurs here.

As can be seen from FIG. 2, in this exemplary embodiment two printing units 31, 32 are arranged for printing a first color system, wherein a dryer 111 can be associated with the printing unit 32. The printing units 31, 32 are two further printing units 33, 34 for printing a further color system and a printing unit 13 downstream. Analogous to the preceding embodiments, a coater tower 4 also decides the series of printing units here.

Mit dieser Konfiguration wird folgendes Verfahren realisiert:With this configuration, the following procedure is realized:

By the printing units 31 to 34 desired for the appropriate packaging printed image is applied. In this case, a color layer is applied in the printing units 31, 32, which consists of colors of a first color system. This can be composed of hybrid colors, hybrid colors being understood to mean colors that proportionately contain a color which is hardened under radiation (in particular under ultraviolet radiation). These colors are dried in the printing unit 31 by a dryer 111 designed as a UV radiator.

The printing units 33, 34 serve here for printing a color system, which consists of colors suitable for offset printing. These colors do not have to be dried by an appropriate device.

In the printing unit 13, a suitable for offset printing binder, usually varnish, applied to the areas provided for the adhesive application.

Figure imgb0001
Subsequently, in the coating tower 8, the printing material is coated over the entire surface with a closed lacquer layer. In this case, the coating is absorbed by the coating of the surfaces intended for applying the adhesive. The other surfaces of the benefit are coated by the printing units 31, 32, 33, 34 with different color systems. On these surfaces, the paint, due to the different paint resorption ability of the paint systems, is then taken up to different proportions of the color layer. As a result, different degrees of gloss can be achieved.
