- European Directive 94/62 / EC of December 94 relating to packaging and packaging waste as well as French Decree No. 98-638 of July 98 relating to the taking into account of environmental requirements in the design and manufacture of packaging provide for measures and encourage solutions aimed at reusing all types of packaging, including those whose composition includes the materials in question. These are, in fact, for the most part, commonly discarded after a single use because, despite the high demand, the absence of an effective cleaning process, without being too aggressive, currently prohibits their reuse.
- the object of the present invention is to propose a cleaning process and a cleaning composition which meet this demand without harming the qualities which characterize these materials during their putting into service.

- Yet another object of the invention is an alkaline composition for washing thermoplastic material or flexible thermoplastic film, woven or not, laminated or not, characterized in that it comprises at least 5 to 18% of sodium hydroxide, 3 to 12% of sodium carbonate, 10 to 28% of sodium perborate and 0 to 10% of surfactant (s), preferably 2 to 10% of surfactant (s).
- the method according to the invention comprises at least one washing step in an alkaline medium.
- this alkaline washing step will be followed by a washing step in the presence of a bleaching and disinfecting agent and / or a neutralization step. of the alkaline medium with an acid product.
- the two washing steps can be carried out simultaneously, by inserting the alkaline composition and the bleaching and disinfecting agent in the same bath. Preferably, the two washing steps are carried out one after the other.
- the mode The operation includes several very distinct phases, the parameters of which (durations, quantities of products, temperatures) can be adapted as a function of the state of cleanliness of the thermoplastic film observed before application of the process in question.
- Washing in an alkaline medium is carried out with a product or a composition whose pH is between 10 and 14 and neutralization of the medium with an acid product whose pH is between 2 and 6. Washing in alkaline solution can be carried out at a temperature between 20 and 70 ° C, preferably between 37 and 52 ° C, for a time between 10 and 30 minutes, preferably between 15 and 20 minutes.
- the alkaline product used may be a detergent comprising alkaline products and sodium perborate and, optionally, surfactants, the alkaline products possibly being sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate.
- the concentration of the alkaline product varies from 15 to 155 grams per kilogram of dry matter to be cleaned.
- the alkaline product which can be in liquid form or in powder form, comprises as active constituents 5 to 18% of soda, 3 to 12% of sodium carbonate, 10 to 28% of sodium perborate and 0 to 10% of surfactant (s), preferably 2 to 10% of surfactant (s).
- the rest of the alkaline product may consist of a neutral support powder and / or of any other particular substance, such as wetting agents for example, and / or of water when the product is in liquid form.
- the support powder which can represent from 30 to 35% of the alkaline product, comprises fine neutral particles of one or more perfumes such as lavender or lemongrass for example.
- the whitening and disinfecting product is a chlorine solution, comprising for example sodium hypochlorite, chlorine and active chlorine, or a solution of hydrogen permanganate or pyroxyl.
- concentration of the whitening and disinfectant solution is 0.25 to 6% of the volume of the bath or 1.5 to 37 grams per kilogram of dry matter to be cleaned.
- the neutralization product consists, for example, of sodium hydrogen sulfite or a composition of sodium hydrogen sulfite and sulfur dioxide.
- the neutralization phase of the alkaline medium with an acid from 1 to 15 minutes, preferably from 1 to 5 minutes, can be carried out cold.
- the concentration of the product of neutralization varies from l-25g / kg of dry matter.
- Washing in a whitening and disinfecting solution can last from 10 to 30 minutes, preferably from 15 to 20 minutes at a temperature between 20 and 70 ° C, preferably between 37 and 52 ° C.
- the three aforementioned, so-called main, phases can be preceded by a pretreatment phase by wetting or pre-soaking with cold water in order to remove the surface residues of products with which the treated material was in contact during the use and followed by a post-treatment step consisting of one or more rinses with cold water to remove any residual traces of product used during the three main phases.
- Rinsing, soaking or neutralizing "cold" or "at room temperature” means that the water used for these stages comes from a traditional water network, either directly or slightly heated, which corresponds to water between 10 and 25 ° C.
- the wetting step can be carried out for a period of 1 to 20 minutes, preferably from 5 to 10 minutes, and the rinsing can be carried out for a duration from 1 to 10 minutes, preferably from 1 to 5 minutes.
- thermoplastic films such as those used for "FIBC” or “Big Bag” bags
- these can be cleaned by mechanical actions in a conventional drum washing machine allowing the application of the present process, subject to some adaptations as to the size of the drum and its speed of rotation.
- these will be arranged in the accordion machine without folds or in rolled form.
- the bags will preferably be open at both edges and arranged in an accordion or in rolled form in the direction parallel to the crossing of the open bag.
- the water inlets in the washing machine are arranged so as to circulate the water as best as possible through the bags.
- the whole treatment can be followed by a spin, advantageously cold, for 1 to 10 minutes, preferably from 1 to 5 minutes, then drying with a flame or steam for 45 to 200 minutes, at a temperature low enough to avoid any shrinkage and deformation of the film, between 25 and 65 ° C.

- the surfactant (s), which modify (s) the surface tension of the liquid in which the detergent is dissolved, little (Fri) t represent from 2 to 10% of the composition, the support powder representing the rest.
- bags of the "FIBC" type, with different degrees of dirtiness were treated according to the method according to the invention.
- the tests were carried out on a first new bag (bag A), a second moderately dirty bag (bag B) and a third very dirty bag (bag C) with very heavy mold.
- bag A was subjected to a microbiological analysis prior to treatment, relating to different germs or microbes.
- Table IV indicates the germs which were sought, the results obtained for the analyzes of the samples by contact boxes on the new bag A, the bag B moderately dirty and the bag C very dirty, as well as the desired concentrations of each germ after a treatment according to the invention.
- the cleaning and sanitizing cycle included the following steps:
- the cleaning cycle parameters for each bag are presented in the following Tables V-VII.
- the cleaning cycle was carried out on a standard machine with a capacity of 180 kg of dry laundry load.
- the products used in the various cycles are those indicated in Table III.
- Breaking resistance and load test tests were carried out on “Big Bag” type bags as follows.
- the bags comprising four gripping members are filled with a filling product and are suspended by said members by means of a suspension frame, a flat back-pressure plate being positioned on the surface of the filling product.
- the suspension frame is fixed and a vertical tensile force is applied progressively downwards by the back-pressure plate, or the plate is held fixed by the top or bottom and a progressive tensile force is applied by the suspension frame.
- the bag is subjected to a repeated cycle of loading, unloading and pause. The tensile force is recorded and the behavior of the bag is visually monitored to observe any rupture of the gripping member, any other damage or any loss of filling material.
- the bags tested have been approved for a Maximum Payload (CMU). Thus, the tested bags underwent 70 cycles under a load of 4 x 1250 kg (5000 kg) and 71-th cycle the minimum breaking load should be 6x1250 kg (7500 kg).
- CMU Maximum Payload
- Bags having previously undergone 25 or 60 cleanings according to the invention were tested and all presented a breaking load substantially identical to that of new bags, of the order of 9,600 kg.
- tests have shown that the FIBC type bags retain all their initial electrostatic conductivity qualities after treatment.
