Definitions
- the invention relates to flowable and pumpable fatty alcohol sulfate pastes, a method for their production of alkyl sulfate pastes with improved flow properties and the Use of such pastes for the production of detergents and cleaning agents.
- Anionic surfactants of the fatty alcohol sulfate type especially those containing fatty alcohol residues Containing 12 to 18 carbon atoms show excellent detergent properties and can be found in both liquid and powder detergents Use.
- aqueous fatty alcohol sulfate pastes out.
- the aqueous surfactant pastes have the highest possible solids content.
- fatty alcohol sulfate pastes can only contain up to a certain solids content be concentrated.
- such pastes have a non-Newtonian Flow behavior.
- Viscosity generally so high values that the pumpability of the surfactant solutions themselves elevated temperatures is no longer guaranteed.
- So watery Fatty alcohol sulfate pastes with solids contents between 30 and 70 wt Ambient temperature so high viscosities and flow limits that a transfer and Pumping around is often impossible.
- European patent EP 0024 711 B1 proposes polyalkyl ether glycol sulfates as viscosity reducing additives to difficult to move To give surfactant concentrates. While such connections are well suited, the Viscosity of fatty alcohol ether sulfate, alkylaryl ether sulfate, alkylbenzenesulfonate and Lowering alkylarylsulfosuccinate solutions is their performance in the presence of Fatty alcohol sulfates, especially linear, primary fatty alcohol sulfates, often do not satisfying.
- German patent application DE 34 47 859 A1 describes the use of alkanesulfonates as a viscosity regulator for highly viscous anionic surfactant concentrates, in particular for salts of ⁇ -sulfofatty acid esters.
- German patent application DE 37 18 896 A1 describes the use of alkoxylated Alcohols as viscosity regulators for highly viscous alkylbenzenesulfonate concentrates.
- German patent application DE 40 32 910 A1 also discloses fatty alcohol sulfate pastes Solids contents of 30 to 80 wt .-%, the flow properties of the addition of Sulfonation products of unsaturated fatty acid glyceride esters in amounts of 1 to 50% by weight, based on the solids content of the pastes can be improved.
- the accompanying substances such as unsulfated fatty alcohols, inorganic sulfates, inorganic chlorides or sodium hydroxide leave at higher values than would normally be achievable in the manufacturing process.
- German patent application DE 42 32 166 A1 also discloses fatty alcohol sulfate pastes a surfactant content of 30 to 80 wt .-% and a content of unsulfonated fatty alcohols of up to 10% by weight.
- the object of the invention was to provide fatty alcohol sulfate pastes with high contents Fatty alcohol sulfate and the lowest possible level of unsulfated fatty alcohols To provide that contain no other surfactants and still cheap rheological Have properties.
- the invention accordingly relates to an aqueous, flowable and pumpable C 12 -C 18 fatty alcohol sulfate paste with a surfactant content of 70 to 80% by weight, preferably 73 to 78% by weight, particularly preferably 75% by weight, a proportion of C 12 -C 14 fatty alcohol sulfates on the total fatty alcohol sulfate is preferably at least 80% by weight, particularly preferably at least 90% by weight, based on the C 12 -C 18 fatty alcohol sulfate.
- C-chain-pure fatty alcohol sulfates with 12 to 14 carbon atoms can also be used with preference.
- the paste contains, based on the surfactant content, unsulfated fatty alcohols in amounts of 0.1-1.2% by weight, preferably 0.4-0.85% by weight.
- the paste also contains inorganic sulfates of, based on the surfactant content, 1 to 2.4% by weight, preferably 1.1 to 2.0% by weight, particularly preferably 1.1 to 1.3% by weight.
- the paste contains at least one aqueous base, with alkali metal hydroxides such as sodium, potassium and lithium hydroxide, alkaline earth metal oxides and hydroxides such as magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide, ammonia, mono-, di- and tri-C 2-4 -alkanolamines , for example mono-, di- and triethanolamine as well as primary, secondary or tertiary C 1-4 alkylamines and glucamines or mixtures thereof in amounts of 0.01 to 0.3% by weight, based on the surfactant content.
- An alkali hydroxide is preferred, particularly preferably sodium or potassium hydroxide.
- the pH of the paste must not drop below 8.5.
- the paste preferably contains the smallest possible amounts of the base.
- the pH values are from 8.5 to 14, preferably 9 to 13.
- the viscosity of the paste at a temperature of 70 ° C. is between 8000 and 20,000 mPas, preferably 12,000 to 16,000 mPas, measured according to Brookfield (RVT, 20 U / min, spindle 6).
- the surfactant pastes according to the invention contain no further ingredients.
- the fatty alcohol sulfates are known anionic surfactants which are generally prepared by reacting aliphatic primary alcohols with a sulfating reagent, for example sulfur trioxide or chlorosulfonic acid.
- the fatty alcohol sulfates of the present application are preferably obtained by reacting aliphatic primary alcohols with sulfur trioxide.
- the fatty alcohol sulfates of the present invention are derived from fatty alcohols having 12 to 18 carbon atoms. Typical examples of this are lauryl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol.
- the fatty alcohol sulfates can also be derived from technical alcohol mixtures, such as those used in the hydrogenation of technical Fatty acid ester mixtures of natural origin or of aldehydes from Roelen's oxosynthesis are obtained. Fatty alcohol sulfates based on technical coconut or hydrogenated palm kernel cuts are preferred.
- the primary unsulfated fatty alcohols are linear primary and C 12 to C 22 fatty alcohols which are methyl branched in the 2-position.
- the pH of the pastes must be at least 8.5 to 14. Are preferred pH values between 9 and 13.
- the pastes according to the invention can be prepared, for example, in the manner known for fatty acid lower alkyl esters [J. Falbe (ed.), "Surfactants in consumer products", Springer Verlag, Berlin-Heidelberg, 1987, p. 61], using reactors based on the falling film principle work, are preferred.
- Chlorosulfonic acid and in particular gaseous sulfur trioxide are suitable as sulfating agents.
