Claims (17)

  1. Device for forming a useful area (8a) projecting from the hull (2) of a ship, comprising a platform (8) which can be moved between a stowed position in which it closes a corresponding opening (6) in the hull (2) of the ship, and an operating position in which it projects from the hull (2) of the ship and forms the useful area (8a), and a sealing arrangement comprising at least one first sealing means (10) surrounding the opening (6) in the hull (2) of the ship and at least one corresponding second sealing means (9) peripherally arranged on the platform (8), the first and second sealing means (9, 10) abutting one another in a sealing manner in the stowed position of the platform (8), characterised in that at the point at which the platform (8) projects in its operating position from the hull (2) of the ship, the first sealing means (10) is provided with at least one recess (24) and the sealing arrangement comprises at least one third sealing means (26) which can be moved between a closed position, in which, in the stowed position of the platform (8), it closes the recess (24) in the first sealing means (10) in a sealing manner, and an open position in which it unblocks the recess (24) in the first sealing means (10).
  2. Device according to claim 1, characterised in that the third sealing means (26) is made substantially of resilient material.
  3. Device according to either claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the first sealing means (10) forms a substantially rigid sealing face and the second sealing means (9) is made of substantially resilient material.
  4. Device according to claim 3, characterised in that the first sealing means (10) is made of a substantially rigid web or strip-shaped groove (10), of which the surface forms the sealing face.
  5. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the third sealing means (26) has a shape substantially complementary to the recess (24) in the first sealing means (10).
  6. Device according to claims 4 and 5, characterised in that the recess (24) and the third sealing means (26) has a trapezoidal shape with corresponding bevelled edges in the transverse and/or longitudinal section.
  7. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the third sealing means (26) can be pivoted about a joint (27) between the closed position and the open position.
  8. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the third sealing means (28) is resiliently biased into the open position.
  9. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 8, characterised by a drive device which moves the third sealing means (26) into the open position and/or the closed position.
  10. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 9, characterised by a locking device (28, 30) for locking the third sealing means (26) in the closed position.
  11. Device according to claims 7 and 10, characterised in that the locking device (28, 30) comprises a, preferably motor driven, locking pin (28) which can be moved in the axial direction and at an angle preferably a right-angle, to the joint (27) of the third sealing means (26), the pin, in its locking position, extending parallel to the third sealing means (26) in the closed position and resting thereon in the process and, in its unlocking position withdrawn via the joint (27), being located outside the third sealing means (26).
  12. Device according to at least one of claims 1 to 11, characterised in that the second sealing means (9) is arranged on the outer wall of the platform (8), preferably on the peripheral edge (8c) thereof.
  13. Device for forming a useful area (8a) protruding from the hull of a ship according to at least one of claims 1 to 12, comprising a platform (8) which can be moved between a stowed position in which it closes a corresponding opening (6) in the hull (2) of the ship, and an operating position in which it projects from the hull (2) of the ship and substantially adjoins a structure (12a, 22) on the ship, and a drive device for moving the platform (8) between the stowed position and the operating position, characterised in that the drive device comprises a first drive means (14, 16, 18) substantially arranged so as to be concealed and to the side of the structure (12a, 22) and/or beneath the structure (12a, 22), the drive means moving the platform (8) away from and toward the ship's hull (2) at an angle with respect to the ship's hull (2), preferably horizontally, and a second drive means arranged substantially so as to be concealed inside the platform (8) and which pivots the platform (8) about a swivelling axis (20).
  14. Device according to claim 13, characterised in that the structure of the base (12a) of a deck (12) is formed.
  15. Device according to either claim 13 or 14, characterised in that the first drive means (14, 16, 18) brings about linear movement of the platform.
  16. Device according to claim 15, characterised in that the first drive means comprises a hydraulic or a pneumatic piston/cylinder arrangement (14, 16) and the platform (8) is articulated at the free end of the piston of the cylinder/piston arrangement or the extension (18) of the piston.
  17. Device according to at least one of claims 13 to 16, characterised in that the second drive means comprises a rotary mechanism, the axis of rotation of the output shaft of the drive coinciding with the swivelling axis (20).
