- the invention relates to electrical connectors of the type known as: "overmolded”, that is to say connectors in which electrical connecting members are housed and in which the housing element is overmolded on said organs.
- Overmolding technology cannot be used for certain electrical contact members, for example, female organs or having very small dimensions. Indeed, it is imperative to avoid the penetration of the material overmolded in the contact member and, moreover the steps between these organs must be important for avoid that, during overmolding, the material tends to come together said organs which risk, in use, of generating short circuits.
- the prior art constituted by the patent French No. 2,412,182 describes a connector comprising a body in which two electrical contact members are housed crimped at the ends with electrical conductors. The electrical contact members are engaged by one end rear of the body which is provided with flaps intended to close said end.
- Such a connector is intended to cooperate with a complementary element engaged on the body and provided with organs of electrical contact complementary to those contained in the body, however for some applications it is imperative, not only, to perform a rear seal but also to obtain a seal between the connector and the complementary element.
- One of the aims of the present invention is to achieve a connector with male or female contact members having small dimensions and which allows, not only, to obtain a rear seal, but also sealing with the complementary element.
- the connector according to the invention is of the type comprising an element comprising channels intended, each, to receive an electrical contact member crimped at one end of a conductor, said element comprising, at a rear end, flaps intended to enclose the conductors and, at one front end, slots for the passage of complementary electrical contact members of those housed in the element channels and housed in a additional element, on the rear end and the flaps being molded, said connector being characterized in that it is produced simultaneously with overmolding on the rear end, a skirt in which extends said element. Thanks to this arrangement, in the skirt, insert the complementary element which receives the element in which the contact members are housed electric and which itself includes additional electrical contact, on said element being mounted a seal which is compressed by the complementary element to ensure watertightness.
- the shutters are of the type comprising gutters in which the conductors are guided, the gutters being provided with transverse beads in order to constitute baffles opposing the creep of the plastic during overmolding to the channels.
