Neigt sich die jeweils aktive Bahnrolle dem Ende zu bzw. ist aus anderen Gründen, beispielsweise wegen eines Format- oder Qualitätswechsels, ein Spleißvorgang erforderlich, so wird die Papierbahn der aktiven Bahnrolle in der Spleißeinrichtung abgeschnitten und mit dem vorderen Ende der in der erforderlichen Weise vorbereiteten einzuspleißenden Papierbahn der jeweils anderen Bahnrolle verbunden (verspleißt). Hierzu wird vorzugsweise bereits während des Laufs der zunächst aktiven Bahnrolle das vordere Ende der anzuspleißenden Papierbahn in die Spleißeinrichtung eingeführt, sauber abgeschnitten und mit einem (doppelseitigen) Klebeband versehen. Auf diese Weise ergibt sich der Vorteil, dass bereits existierende Wellpappenanlagen mit üblichen Spleißvorrichtungen mit jeweils einer Bahnabrolleinrichtung für zwei Bahnrollen zu einer Spleißvorrichtung nach der vorliegenden Erfindung nachgerüstet werden können.
