- the reader therefore has two concentric circular locations, a location with a diameter of 12 cm for the discs of 12cm in diameter and a location with a diameter of 8cm for discs of 8cm in diameter.
- a credit card type information carrier is entirely contained in the 12cm diameter slot, but is larger in length than the 8cm diameter slot. It is therefore necessary to provide means for positioning and centering the card with respect to the 8cm diameter location, such positioning means having to be sufficiently reliable to ensure easy and permanent centering of the information medium.

- CD-ROM drives are often presented according to the representation illustrated in FIG. 1. If there is no central pivot to drive the disc as is found in the drives installed on the laptops, the part of the reader or support 10 intended to receive the CD-ROM introduced by the user has two slightly hollow circular locations. The first location 12 is delimited by an arc of a circle diameter equal to 12cm and is intended to receive CD-ROM disks of 12cm in diameter. The second location 14, slightly hollow relative to the first location 12, is delimited by an arc of a diameter equal to 8 cm to receive the CD-ROM discs 8 cm in diameter.
- the support 10 includes a recess 16 so that the mechanism (not shown) of the reader comes to grip the disc, lift it and drive it in rotation for reading the recordings.
- an information medium 18 having the format of a credit card of 8.5 cm by 5.5 cm approximately has a length less than the diameter of the first location 12 but greater than the diameter of the second location 14.
- the positioning and centering of such a card can therefore be done by means of protuberant parts of the card retained by the edge of the second slightly hollow location 14.
- the information medium comprises two protruding bands in an arc of a circle 22 and 24 from one edge to the other of the card 18, at each end of the card, of rectangular section and the two walls of which are perpendicular to the surface of the card.
- Each protruding strip in an arc of a circle a magnification of which is illustrated in FIG. 3, has a thickness preferably between 0.2 and 0.5 mm and a width preferably between 0.2 mm and 1 mm.
- the outer circular rim 26 has a diameter equal to or slightly less than 8 cm so that it is positioned exactly inside the second hollow location 14 of the support 10 of the reader.
- each protruding strip 22 (or 24) has optimum contact all along the edge of the location 14.
- the protruding strip could be slightly bevelled at least on its outer edge 26 so that the card is positions almost automatically when placed on the support, centering it approximately.
- the thickness of the protuberance and the shape of the inner rim are of little importance since they do not participate in the positioning of the card.
- FIG. 4 it is the entire part in one piece 30 intended to serve as an information medium in the same way as an 8 cm CD-ROM disc. diameter which is protruding with respect to the rest of the card.
- the protruding part 30 with a thickness of between 0.2mm and 0.5mm, and a magnification of which is illustrated in FIG. 5, is therefore intended to be positioned in the hollow circular location of the disc support 10 suitable for CD-ROM discs.
- the circular rim 26 'of this protruding part has a diameter equal to or slightly less than 8 cm in order to be able to position itself perfectly in the hollow location 14.
- the important characteristic of the invention is that the protruding part has optimum contact all along the location 14, which is achieved thanks to the outer rim 26 '.
- this edge could be slightly bevelled so that the card is positioned almost automatically when it is placed on the disc support, centering it approximately.
- the positioning of the circular outer rim 26 or 26 'in the location 14 is clearly visible in FIG. 1. It should be noted that the part of the outer rim of the card in contact with the rim of the location 14 is still significant even if the information carrier 18 is placed at an angle in the reader as shown in FIG. 1. As illustrated in FIG. 6, the card 18 can have a magnetic strip 32 on the back. Such a CD- card ROM comprising software recorded on the legible part in the support 10, can therefore also secure a payment or an access made with the card thanks to the magnetic strip which makes it possible to authenticate the holder of the card. It should be noted that the card could also include a chip 34, or even a chip with a magnetic strip as illustrated in FIG. 7 for the same reasons as those mentioned above.
- the information medium according to the invention preferably has the format of a conventional credit card, it goes without saying that such a medium could have any other format but different however from an 8 to 12 cm disc. diameter so that the protruding part according to the invention is necessary for its positioning in the space for 8 cm diameter disc or in the space for 12 cm diameter disc. It is thus possible to provide a rectangular-shaped support having the format of a business card of 8.2 cm by 12.5 cm and whose protruding part, in this case, is adapted to position in the space reserved for 12 cm discs of diameter.
