Definitions
- the invention relates to a light display device for road traffic, with a large number of display points in or on a display surface with a light entry surface and a light exit surface Display lenses are formed by means of the back of the display surface respectively assigned lighting elements of smaller diameter are illuminated, and in which the light exit surface and / or the light entry surface in such a way are shaped / is that the light intensity distribution on the display side in a horizontal Direction has a greater extent than in the vertical direction.
- a luminous display device of this type is disclosed in US-A 4,113,347.
- a lateral magnification the beam angle or the light intensity distribution by means of two side by side trained lens element achieved.
- JP-A 03 054 592 proposes to achieve a larger expansion the light intensity distribution in one direction than in the other two cylindrical lenses different curvature with their cylinder axes perpendicular to each other to arrange.
- Another light display device is shown in DE 40 40 467 C1.
- This known light display device is a variety of display points formed on a display surface by means of respective display lenses which from the back of the display area via lighting elements in the form of on the display lenses are illuminated optical fibers.
- the Display lenses whose cross section is larger than the cross section of the optical fibers, relatively large display points are obtained, which the Improve the recognizability of a displayed character.
- the light emission is achieved by means of the Lenses bundled, which on the other hand causes the luminance at larger angles outside the radiation axis, especially in a bright environment for a good Recognizability can become too low.
- the invention has for its object a lighting display device Provide the type mentioned at the beginning, with unchanged light output the luminous elements an increased luminance of the light spots under larger ones Viewing angles is achieved, the design also for the Maintenance is cheap.
- the light exit surface and / or the light entry surface such are shaped / is that the light intensity distribution on the display side in a horizontal Direction has a greater extent than in the vertical direction.
- This design of the display lenses results in enlarged horizontal ones Observation angles an increased light intensity or luminance of the Display points so that, for example, even when approaching from a road curve the ad is clearly recognizable.
- the light intensity distribution is in vertical direction at the expense of the light intensity distribution in the horizontal Direction to a correspondingly smaller angle with respect to the radiation axis reduced, but sufficient to meet the requirements of good readability to meet the usual observation distances. Overall, it will Light of the display essential for real observation conditions in road traffic improved.
- the other measures are particularly favorable that the display lens is a cylindrical one adjoining the light entry surface Has section and on their radially symmetrical light entry surface is tapered to the outside and a central has concave portion. It is sufficient if the display lens at least is radially symmetrical in the light entry area.
- a suitable design of the light display device for good visibility is that the half-width of the light intensity distribution is horizontal Direction is at least 1.4 times larger than the half-width in the vertical direction.
- the full width at half maximum be twice as large in the horizontal direction as in the vertical direction, where within the half-width, the light intensities with the same light sources as well are larger than within the half-width range of previous radially symmetrical ones Light intensity distributions.
- the half-width of a radially symmetric was Luminous intensity distribution e.g. 12 °, so this light intensity distribution with the present display device within a vertical half-value width from e.g. 6 ° and horizontal half-width of 24 ° achieved, so that in the important horizontal area a doubling of the corresponding off-axis recognizability angle results.
- a simple design of the display lenses is that the radius of curvature the light exit surface in the horizontal direction is smaller than in the vertical Direction, wherein an advantageous embodiment is that the Light exit surface is convexly curved outwards in the vertical direction and in horizontal direction has a radius of curvature of zero.
- the display lenses are in the Conveniently so that the light exit surface is cylindrical section.
- the lenses can be cylindrical in shape, for example, from a glass rod made of acrylic manufactured and with a cylindrical piece in a corresponding hole the display area can be inserted and fixed.
- a clear positioning and layout as well as a tight definition on the display surface is achieved by the circumference of the display lens has a flange-like collar with which it is on the outside of the display surface is applied.
- the measure is for simple positioning of the display lenses in the circumferential direction advantageous that a mark for the installation position is formed on the collar is.
- a simple positioning aid is that the Marking is formed as a segment of a circle.
- the entry surface can be exchanged with the exit surface by turning the lens 180 °.
- the display lens 1 has a cylindrical one in the direction of the optical axis Section 2, on the one hand, the light entry surface facing a display surface 9 and on the other hand connect a light exit surface 8, which via an associated lighting element, for example one on the display lens 1 opposite side illuminated optical fiber or a light-emitting diode illuminated becomes.
- the light exit surface 8 is in turn shaped like a cylinder section, wherein they are convexly curved outwards in the vertical direction (reference number 4) and runs straight in the horizontal direction (reference number 3).
- the light entry surface 9 consists of a circumferential conical section Bevel 7, the circular section on its lower side in the installed position is cut off, as can be seen in particular in FIG. c). Furthermore, in a concave, spherical section-shaped in a central region of the light entry surface 9 Section 5 trained. The light entry surface is towards the light exit surface 8 9 with a collar-like collar 6 on the outer circumference of the cylindrical Section 2 provided with which the display lens 1 is in the assembled Flange condition on the display surface, so that a clear installation position is achieved in the axial direction.
- the display lens 1 formed in the manner described results in a broadening the light intensity distribution curve in the horizontal direction and a narrowing the luminous intensity distribution curve in the vertical direction, the half width for example 6 ° in the vertical direction and 24 ° in the horizontal Direction can be.
- the light intensity is within the half-width as large as with a radially symmetrical light distribution of a half-value width of 12 ° if the irradiation into the display lens 1 is the same.
- the described embodiment of the display lens 1 is also favorable for assembly and manufacturing.
