Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of apparatus or apparatus sealed to be immersed in a liquid, such as water, such as a watch, said apparatus comprising a housing in which is housed a sound transducer, the microphone or loud speaker.
  • the present invention relates to a waterproof apparatus capable of being immersed in a liquid, for example a waterproof watch, comprising a housing including an internal chamber communicating with the outside, said chamber being separated from the outside by a deformable membrane defining, a side, an unsealed outer zone and, on the other side, a sealed internal zone, in which is housed, in association with said membrane, a sound transducer, said membrane being fixed by its peripheral edge in the chamber and applied by elastic means towards its periphery, but at a distance from said edge, against a bearing surface formed in the internal chamber.
  • the apparatus according to the patent application EP-A-0 899 635 exhibits a noticeable improvement in the overall acoustic qualities of the sound transducer. Nevertheless, it could be demonstrated that a device of this kind did not allow to work optimally on the entire sound spectrum used. Thus, it has been found the occurrence of distortions and attenuations of the signal in the vicinity of certain sound frequencies.
  • the appearance in the vicinity of such a frequency range of phenomena of deterioration of the acoustic characteristics of the apparatus provided with a deformable membrane may originate in a number of causes, such as those related to the existence of a frequency resonance of the elastic member holding the membrane in place, or the existence of a vibration of the transducer against the bottom of the deformation chamber of the membrane. Other reasons may of course be mentioned, without it being possible to determine precisely such an origin.
  • the purpose of the invention is therefore to remedy the various disadvantages listed above and to provide a new sealed apparatus capable of being immersed in a liquid and in which the sound transducer associated with a deformable sealing membrane is capable of being able to ensure improved sound wave reproduction over the entire sound spectrum used.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a new sealed device for obtaining, with the aid of particularly simple and proven technical means, a good sound reproduction of acoustic waves over the entire sound spectrum used.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a new sealed device provided with a sound transducer and capable of restoring a quality optimal acoustics over the entire sound spectrum used while being economical to manufacture, and whose various internal components can be implemented easily.
  • a waterproof apparatus capable of being immersed in a liquid according to claim 1, for example a waterproof watch, comprising a housing including an internal chamber communicating with the outside. , said chamber being separated from the outside by a deformable membrane defining, on one side, a non-leakproof outer zone and, on the other side, an internal tight zone in which is housed, in association with said membrane, a transducer sonor, said membrane being fixed by its peripheral edge in the chamber to form a peripheral attachment zone and elastically applied by a resilient means towards its periphery, but at a distance from said edge, against a bearing surface formed in the internal chamber, characterized in that it comprises a means of blocking the vibrations transmitted by the sound transducer to the deformable membrane, said means being interposed e between the peripheral fixation zone and the elastic means.
  • the invention will be illustrated in its application to a sealed apparatus capable of being immersed in a liquid, formed by a timepiece consisting of a wristwatch. It is nevertheless understandable that such a presentation can in no way be considered as a limitation of the invention to this specific type of apparatus or apparatus, it being understood that the invention may be applied in a general manner to any device, usually portable and small dimension, as soon as it comprises at least one sound transducer and is capable of being immersed in a liquid, in particular water, to a predetermined depth.
  • the sound transducer will advantageously be formed by a loudspeaker, it being understood that, in its place, any type of sound transducer may be used without departing from the the scope of the invention, the sound transducer can be for example also a microphone or other transducer.
  • Figure 1 shows a general longitudinal cross-sectional view of the housing 1 of a wristwatch (not shown in its entirety in the figures).
  • the housing 1 conventionally comprises a transparent glass 2 mounted to the upper part of a body 3 forming the general framework of the housing 1.
  • the latter also comprises a pair of needles 4, 5 mounted movably on a dial 6 mounted on the body 3.
  • the casing 1 also comprises all the parts of the mechanism 7 for operating the wristwatch (not shown in the figures), and in particular a crown 7A for setting the time.
  • a wristwatch according to the invention could be provided with a microphone transducer or a speaker for making a watch forming a mobile phone.
  • the invention of the present patent application is an improvement of the demand EP-A-0 899 635 from the same applicant, which also discloses a sealed apparatus containing the technical features of the preamble of claim 1.
  • the housing 1 has at its bottom a bottom 8 delimiting its lower part.
  • the bottom 8 is mounted on the body 3 and defines an internal chamber 10 of the housing 1 communicating with the outside of the housing 1 through a channel 11 opening for example laterally.
  • the bottom 8 has towards its periphery and at its upper part a bearing surface 12, for example circular, having a slight inclination with respect to the axis of the internal chamber 10.
  • the housing 1 also comprises a support piece 9, for example circular and of generally conjugate shape and matched to the bottom 8, to come to rest on the latter.
  • the support part 9 is mounted substantially coaxial with the inner chamber 10 and has, substantially in its central part, a recess 13, for example also of generally circular shape.
  • This recess 13 constitutes a deformation chamber, bordered by a circumferential peripheral rib 14 and contiguous with an annular groove 15 situated radially inward with respect to the rib 14.
  • the inner chamber 10 is separated from the outside of the casing 1 by a deformable membrane 17, made of plastic material, thus defining, on one side, an unsealed outer zone in relation to the channel 11, and on the other side a internal sealed zone incorporating the volume defined by the recess 13.
  • a transducer element 22 for example a speaker of the piezoelectric type, or a sound receiver (microphone).
  • the transducer element 22 is advantageously directly mounted on and supported by the deformable membrane 17, for example by gluing, or overmolding, or even by molding during the production of the deformable membrane 17.
  • transducer assembly 16 forms with the deformable membrane 17 an assembly referred to as "transducer assembly 16".
  • the deformable membrane 17 is fixed at a peripheral attachment zone, and for example by its peripheral edge 17A, advantageously comprising a peripheral flange 18, for example by bonding to a peripheral side wall 19 formed around the surface of the peripheral surface. 12, respectively on the bottom 8 and the support part 9.
  • the membrane 17 seals the inside of the housing 1 vis-à-vis the outside, while being free to deform in its central zone located inside the inner edge of the bearing surface 12.
  • Transducer assembly 16 is also resiliently applied by resilient means 20 toward and against bearing surface 12 to permit the lower frequency vibration mode of active portion of transducer assembly 16.
  • the elastic means 20 elastically applies the transducer assembly 16 against the bearing surface 12 in an area adjacent to its periphery but at a distance from the peripheral edge 17A so as to leave free the space extending between, a the periphery of the membrane deformable 17 and its peripheral attachment zone, and, on the other hand, the elastic means 20.
  • the elastic means 20 may be formed by any appropriate means, and for example by a ring housed in the groove 15 and provided with elastic tabs 21 distributed angularly around the transducer 22.
  • the elastic pastes 21 being under stress, they therefore elastically apply the transducer assembly 16 against the bearing surface 12 while strictly limiting the area of the membrane capable of vibrating freely.
  • the apparatus comprises a means of blocking the vibrations 40 transmitted by the transducer element 22 to the deformable membrane 17, said means being interposed between the peripheral edge 17A and the elastic means 20.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 is disposed beyond the elastic means 20, considering the external radial direction and below the peripheral fastening zone of the membrane.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 is an integral part of the deformable membrane 17 and issuing from the latter.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 is advantageously formed by a peripheral rib 41 rising from the upper face of the deformable diaphragm 17.
  • the peripheral rib 41 forms a bulge of material disposed directly at the periphery of the sound transducer 22.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 may be formed by a zone of the deformable membrane 17 which has a higher density relative to the rest of said membrane.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 may also be formed by an area of the deformable membrane 17 which has a greater stiffness relative to the remainder of said membrane.
  • the stiffening of the membrane towards its peripheral region can be obtained either by means of an additional molded structure, or overmolded in the mass of the deformable membrane 17, or on the contrary by point variation of its composition.
  • FIG. 3 shows another variant embodiment of the invention in which the vibration blocking means 40 is formed by a rib 42 coming from the bearing surface 12 to put the deformable membrane 17 in tension.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 is formed by an element, distinct from the deformable membrane 17.
  • FIG. 4 shows a complementary variant of the invention in which the vibration blocking means 40 is formed by a rib 43 coming from the upper part of the sealed internal zone, namely from the support part 9, to bear on the deformable membrane 17 for pressing against the bearing surface 12.
  • the vibration blocking means 40 may extend continuously over the entire peripheral length of the deformable membrane 17, or on the contrary extend discontinuously, the essential being that the we can observe and note a lack of deterioration of the acoustic characteristics of the equipment regardless of the frequency zones considered.
  • This table presents, in a first part, the results obtained by means of a control unit differing from the present invention only by the absence of the vibration blocking means 40. In a second part, this table presents the beneficial effect the interposition of a vibration blocking means 40 formed by a peripheral rib 41.
  • the penultimate column of this table shows the ratio, expressed as a percentage, of the energy delivered to the 2nd harmonic (2 harmonic ) of the excitation frequency by the energy delivered to the excitation frequency of the transducer assembly 16. the last column shows the same ratio for the 3rd harmonic (3 harm) of the excitation frequency.
