Definitions
- the technical field of the present invention is that wall facings, that is to say elements allowing protect the upper side of a wall from the weather and / or provide decoration.
- the invention relates to a ridge suitable for covering a wall extending in length, such as a perimeter or enclosure wall, or that of a wall whose length is reduced to the dimensions of a pillar.
- the invention aims, inter alia goals, to make the most of the possibilities that can offer plastics to make both soles and the covers in the form of profiles moldable by extrusion.
- the invention thus provides, in particular, a ridge of wall to be formed by assembling soles and covers, both advantageously made of profiles made of plastic, especially for decorative purposes or protection, in which each sole is arranged by above the upper edge of the wall to be covered presents two opposite lateral branches which bear on vertical sides of it, while each cover is fixed on the corresponding sole by at least the first fastening means acting by vertical snap-fastening between the cover and an upper edge of each lateral branches of the corresponding sole.
- the latching means vertical between cover and sole, as well as means of assembly by lateral snap effect which can advantageously complement them, imply an element protruding in the form of a hook which engages in a hollow groove whose shape, following a cross section of profiles, is complementary, complementary forms preferably being those of a tail interlocking mode dovetail.
- the present invention leads to a ridge which is easy to install, without requiring the use of tools individuals, and the visible part of which can be changed without difficulty, even by a non-specialist, and can be freely and easily decorated at the user's discretion.
- Another advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that the soles and covers can be made in low density materials, which facilitates their handling.
- a yet another advantage is that a sole equipped with double lateral branches, in a cross section similar to that of an H, allows the user to choose between two interchangeable configurations resulting in different roof heights.
- FIGS 1A and 1B there is shown a ridge according to the invention in one embodiment particularly elaborate on which we will return later.
- the ridge according to the invention considered as coming to cover a wall in length 1, evoked in phantom, is essentially consisting of two series of profiles which assembles on site.
- the profiles are connected by ankle socket 35 engaging in recesses 34 suitable for successive profiles.
- the two profiles forming a couple of the ridge 2 include a element forming a sole 3 which is arranged over the wall 1, and an element forming a cover 4 which is assembled with the corresponding sole by elastic snap.
- the elastic snap effect is obtained from a relatively easy way and by simple means and little costly when, as in the case considered here, soles and covers are made of profiles made by extrusion of plastic material.
- FIG 1A also shows that each sole 3 has a transverse plate 7 joining two legs side 5 and 6 which surround the wall 1 by pressing resting against the side faces of this wall when the plate 6 comes to rest on top of it.
- the legs 5 and 6 are therefore formed vertically on either side of the plate 7, and perpendicularly thereto.
- the plate 7 is perforated with perforations 24 which will be useful to favor the adhesion of a layer of glue or mortar used to permanently fix the sole 3 on the wall 1.
- the side legs 5 and 6 come from molding slightly inclined towards each other in order to achieve an effect of elastic nipping on the wall. More precisely this form inclined is given to the lateral branches 8 which constitute the legs 5 and 6 in their parts lying below the level of the plate 7.
- the material has elastic flexibility sufficient to allow them to be spread manually when installation of the sole on the wall 1.
- FIG 2 there is shown a ridge whose sole 3 has in cross section a general shape of letter H, as is the case in the previous achievement.
- the plate 7 is substantially flat, since it is assumed intended to be placed on a wall with a smooth upper surface.
- Each leg or lateral branch breaks down, on the part and on the other side of the plate 7 in the vertical direction, in a branch upper lateral 11 'and a lower lateral branch 11.
- the latter constitutes, on the corresponding side of the middle plate, what we consider to be the branch lateral 8 in the generic embodiment of a ridge according to the invention.
- each leg 5 or 6 has an upper groove 36 and a groove lower 37, each of them constituting one of the elements cooperants of the first means of securing the sole 3 with cover 4, in association with the side branch lying in the lower position.
- the two grooves 36 and 37 extend longitudinally over the entire length of the element sole. Each is dug in the thickness of the branch lateral 8 of the sole to open on its edge, more precisely on that 29 of its end faces which is presents up.
- the cover 4 On each edge of the roof 9 with two slopes symmetrical that it forms, the cover 4 is provided with a hook 38, protruding downward, whose shape is complementary to that of grooves 36 and 37.
- the hook 38 of the cover is intended to engage in the groove 36 leading to the section 29 on the upper side of the lateral branch of the sole. In the reverse position of the sole, it would engage in groove 37, which would become the groove upper of the lateral branch 8 of the following sole the invention, then constituted by the part 11 'of the leg corresponding of the sole. This makes the sole reversible and therefore able to position it in one direction as in the other on the wall.
- the lower branches of the H are larger than the branches higher than H, which provides the possibility for the user to choose between two heights of the roof covering the wall.
- the introduction of the hook 38 in the groove 36 or in the groove 37 is produced by an elastic latching effect working in a vertical direction, by moving the cover from top to bottom, the sole being retained by the wall.
- the hook 38 is therefore definitively blocked in the groove.
- the complementary forms of hook and groove are those of a tail socket dovetail, the hook 38 forming two symmetrical teeth of the two sides of a vertical blade.
- the groove 36 is significantly deeper than is useful for receive the hook 38 and that it is inside this groove that it is formed two lips 52 engaging the hook 38.
- the latter is shaped like an arrow in section. This facilitates its ability to break a detachable tab 53 which closes the opening of groove 36 until its first use, in order to protect it for example from splashes mortar when installing the base.
- the cover has a recess 54 and a side flange 55 which define between them a receiving housing from the upper end of the branch 8 of the sole. This guiding effect while holding lateral is beneficial to the good performance of the assembly produced.
- each branch 11 is provided with two sets of cooperating elements constituting means for securing with the cover 4.
- the first means of joining are constituted by upper grooves 12 and 12a hollowed out in the upper edge of the side branches of the sole, so here at the upper parts of the H section, and second securing means involve lower grooves 13 and 13a made in the lower branches of the H, but opening laterally towards outside.
- the grooves 12, 12a and 13, 13a extend longitudinally over the entire length of the sole element.
- the upper grooves 12 and 12a are accessible vertically from top to bottom, and grooves 13 and 13a laterally from outside to inside.
- the cover 4 is provided with hooks 14, 14a and 15, 15a whose shape is complementary to that of the grooves 12, 12a and 13, 13a.
- the hooks 14 and 14a are intended to engage in the grooves 12 and 12a by a vertical latching effect, exercising from top to bottom, as already described.
- hooks 15 and 15a they protrude inside a wall which forms a skirt 10 laterally extending the cover to the outside of the lateral branches of the sole. They are planned to engage in grooves 13 and 13a by an effect lateral latching exerted from the outside to the inside.
- each groove 13 or 13a is advantageously made in the thickness of a rim 16 which is attached to the lower branch of the H and which forms a skid bearing on the corresponding lateral face of the wall by one face vertical plane 51.
- the cover 4 is placed by spreading the skirts 10 in order to engage the hooks 14 and 14a in the grooves 12 and 12a corresponding then apply the hooks 15 and 15a in the corresponding grooves 13 and 13a.
- FIG. 4 another mode of realization of the sole element, the cover element being substantially identical to the previous one.
- the cover 4 comprises as before, a roof 9 secured to two side skirts 10.
- the sole 3 also has an H section defining the transverse plate 7 and the two branches side with the reference 11 in their lower part.
- the hooking means consist of two hooks 17 and two hooks 18.
- the hooks 17 are oriented substantially parallel to the walls 10 while the hooks 18 are oriented in a direction which is appreciably their perpendicular.
- Sole 3 has grooves 19 and 20 whose form is respectively complementary to that of hooks 17 and 18. The assembly of the sole elements and cover is done as described above.
- Figure 5 is a perspective view of the elements of sole and cover shown in section in FIG. 4.
- the plate 7 has a number of perforations 24, which are shown here in various shapes, for further improve the lightening of the sole and facilitate grip of the sole by the layer of glue or mortar inserted between the upper surface of the wall and said sole.
- the examples described above are intended for a well-defined wall width, which requires the user either to predetermine the width of its wall during construction, or to choose the appropriate sole model. However, this obligation may present a handicap for the professional forcing it to provide several sizes of ridge.
- the invention therefore also aims to provide the user with a ridge whose width of the sole can be varied, as shown in Figure 6 with a snap connection variable length.
- each sole includes a part 25 (left part of the figure) and part 26 (part right).
- Parts 25 or 26 are in the form of a half H with which the base half-plates 7a and 7b are provided a snap-in connection consisting of a female element 27, counterpart of the grooves of the embodiments previously described and therefore carried by part 25, and of a male element 28, carried by part 26, which is the counterpart of hooks above.
- the two elements 27 and 28 of each snap connection are respectively provided with cooperating teeth.
- the length of these elements defines a minimum width of the sole when the teeth are in taken over their entire length, and a maximum width when a reduced number of teeth of the male element, two for example, are engaged in the groove of the female element.
- the cover can be made in the same way way, the snap connection being provided at the roof level.
- FIG 7 there is illustrated the mounting diagram of the sole and the cover, the sole being of the same type as that shown in Figure 6.
- FIG 8 there is shown a ridge constituted a two-part sole such as that described on the Figures 6 and 7 and whose side branches 11 are the same type as those presented in figure 2.
- the cover is made in three parts, two of which are constituted by independent male elements 39a and 39b one from the other, the other part of the cover consisting of a separable roof 41 carrying two female elements 40a and 40b.
- Each male element 39a and 39b is introduced into the element female 40a and 40b corresponding by a snap connection, which, thanks to the different teeth of the elements 40a and 40b and elements 39a and 39b, allows to adjust the distance between the two edges of the cover depending on the distance of the sole.
- each sole 3 includes recesses 33 and 34, for example at the level of each lateral branch, in which a pin 32 is placed, possibly with the interposition of an adhesive.
- a sole 3 identical to that of FIG. 9, is already provided pegs 35 which protrude so as to enter the receiving recesses of the next sole to be connected, this last not shown.
- Figures 11 and 12 show a pillar ridge to square section. It includes a cover 42 consisting of four side walls forming external skirts 43, and a sole 44 consisting of four lateral branches 45.
- Figure 12 shows that the lateral branches 45 surround a plate 49 intended to be placed on the upper side of the wall.
- Branches lateral 45 have at each of their ends grooves 46 and 47, of the same type as those described on the Figures 2 and 8, said grooves hollowed longitudinally on all around the sole 44.
- the cover 42 is provided with each of its ends of a hook 48 which cooperates either with groove 46 or with groove 47 to secure the cover with sole.
- the wall to cover is a solid wall, for example a masonry wall on the fence of a property, or an equivalent pillar. But this is not mandatory to implement the invention. Everything at otherwise, the same means as described would be suitable as well in the case of hollow walls, which would include the case of hollow posts. We could then plan to complete the fixation between cover and sole by other means of joining acting by lateral latching effect and making advantageously intervene, on each side of the profiles, a hook projecting outwards on an internal skirt of the cover and a cooperating groove hollowed out laterally in an internal skirt of the sole engaging inside the wall hollow, the corresponding snap-on effect then inside to outside.
- a wall made up, no longer by a wall or low wall extending in length, but from a solid or hollow pillar may present any section, including for example a circular section rather than square section, or more generally rectangular, as described.
- profiles for soles or lids (and separable roofs if necessary) according to the following the invention can be produced industrially in very variable lengths, and although we don't have it yet specified above, it can often be advantageous to shift the connections between two successive covers with respect to connections between two successive footings and / or provide connection areas supplemented by seals and / or overlap zones between two successive covers at their junction.
- the invention cannot be interpreted in a way abusively restrictive depending on the use that each can make constituent elements of the ridge on any wall particular.
- a user can choose to assemble one or more soles with the one or more homologous covers before installing the assembly on the wall to be covered, rather than sealing each footing to the wall before completing it with the cover (s) presenting the additional joining elements.
- this solution will hardly be adopted unless the practical circumstances allow simultaneously dispense with all sealing, or even, preferably, with all means of fixing the soles to the wall in question.
