Definitions
- the present invention relates to a curler and a method of shaping hair. It is especially usable in the production of perms or styling or in the form of hair.
- the curlers commonly used generally consist of a cylindrical body or slightly thinner over the middle of their length. They can be made of any suitable material, such as plastic and / or metal. With the types of curlers with a cylindrical body or thinning in the middle, we proceed by sampling, from the hairline, flat and horizontal locks, of a width corresponding to that of the curler. The hair is then coiled from tip to root in more or less numerous and thick concentric layers. At the end of the winding, the curler is placed tangentially to the scalp where it is kept.
- the treatment products when applied after winding, penetrate and permeate more or less regularly the first and deepest coiled layers.
- the same difficulties are found during the first rinsing with water and during the application of the fixative which constitutes the final phase of the treatment of the hair before the removal of the curlers.
- a wick made with these models of curlers has, if it is cut transversely with a scissor, a flat section due to the winding in concentric layers.
- the curlers made up of a frustoconical body as they are described in FR-A-1,007,774 and EP-A-0,283,305, they have, due to their exclusively frustoconical shape very marked, two major drawbacks : first, the great difficulty in holding the tip of the lock at the start of the winding and then the sliding of the lock of hair towards one or the other of the ends of the curler both during the winding and during duration of treatment. Curlers of exclusively frustoconical shape have not caught the interest of hairdressing professionals.
- the present invention relates to a curler allowing faster and easier production of perms and styling giving the hair a natural appearance with well-formed curls.
- a non-heating curler characterized in that it comprises
- a single frustoconical body having a small diameter end and a large diameter end, - said frustoconical body being extended at one of its ends by a cylindrical or quasi-body -cylindrical of substantially the same diameter.
- cylindrical body (s) will be used to refer to the cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical body or bodies of the invention.
- a single body of frustoconical shape it is obvious to those skilled in the art that several successive frustoconical bodies of slope decreasing fairly regularly and spaced or not by short plates from 1 to 3 mm for example must in fact be considered as a single body of frustoconical shape since they actually play the same function.
- the length of said cylindrical body preferably represents from 18 to 40% of the useful length of the curler, that is to say of the cylindrical body-body of frustoconical shape, and preferably 20 to 30%.
- the curler of the invention is characterized in that its second end is extended by a cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical body of substantially the same diameter as that of said second end.
- the length of the two cylindrical bodies preferably represents from 30 to 50% of the useful length of the curler and in particular from 35 to 45%.
- a "full" curler according to the invention is suitable for making perms.
- a curler according to the invention is preferably characterized in that it is hollow in the manner of a pipe for forming a tunnel and comprises multiple openings putting in communicating its interior volume with the exterior, to allow a liquid to wet the hair situated against the curler, passing through the interior.
- This communication can be obtained by many means well known to those skilled in the art which can be constituted for example by a plurality of circular orifices or elongated slots.
- the communications area may represent 10% or more, preferably 20% or more, most particularly 30% or more of the area of the curler.
- the more the area of the communications increases on the surface of the curler the better the impregnation of the hair inside a coiled wick.
- the limit is obviously the holding or the rigidity of the curler. There must indeed be enough material to constitute the curler so that it retains its shape and dimensions.
- these communications are carried out in the form of slots preferably situated at the level of the frustoconical body, and very particularly at the level of the frustoconical body and of the cylindrical body or bodies.
- the material represents on the surface of the curler a smaller surface than that of communications.
- a preferred curler according to the invention is characterized in that at least one cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical body is provided, on the side of the end of the curler, with a protrusion or a plurality of protrusions to prevent hair from slipping out of the curler.
- the prominence can be unique and consists for example of a ring, a disc or a ring of diameter greater than that of the cylindrical body at the end of which it is installed. It can also be for example a plurality of protruding points.
- said cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical body is provided with a prominence which is a flange as illustrated below in the drawings.
- prominence fulfills several functions.
- the curler according to the invention is characterized in that it is provided with a fixed or fixable link at one of its ends.
- this link intended to block the hair on the curler, going from one end to the other thereof, can be carried out using numerous devices well known in the state of the art.
- the link is removable, so as to be replaced as necessary. This is the case with example if it is a link with elastic properties, these elastic properties can be lost by aging.
- a preferred fixing device consists of a stud located at one end of the curler according to the invention, said stud cooperating for example with a light created in the link as illustrated below in the figures.
- Another preferred fixing device comprises an opening preferably arranged axially at one of the ends of the curler.
- the latter can cooperate with a link, preferably elastic, provided at one end with a bulky element of size greater than the aforementioned channel.
- the opening can also adopt a U shape with parallel branches to allow the link to be inserted by sliding it towards the axis of the curler.
- the opening of the U is then preferably narrower than the section of the link, to widen towards the bottom of the U.
- the variant comprising an opening made at one end of the curler provides the advantage of minimizing the length and the weight of a curler according to the invention.
- the link is elastic and the link fixing device consists of one side at least one notch in the collar, of dimensions suitable for blocking the link when the latter is introduced into the notch.
- the notch may be unique, but preferably a plurality of notches are used, preferably regularly spaced around the prominence, in particular from 4 to 10 notches. These are preferably not located two by two on the same diameter, to improve the blocking of the link.
- the plurality of protruding points can also be used for blocking the link, either because their spacing creates kinds of notches, or the blocking is carried out according to the principle of the nipple mentioned above.
- a nipple at one end does not exclude the presence of a flange on this same side.
- a second function of the flange (s) is, when the link is installed, in particular an elastic link, that the latter does not press too strongly on the hair. This is why, the prominence of the flange (s) relative to the surface of the cylindrical bodies can for example have a value of 1 to 4 mm, and preferably from 1.5 to 2.5 mm.
- a curler according to the invention obviously has dimensions adapted to its use.
- the cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical body or bodies each have a length less than or equal to 30 mm, in particular 20 mm, while the frustoconical body has a length of 40 mm or more, in particular 50 mm or more.
- a preferred curler according to the invention advantageously has a useful length of 60 to 150 mm, preferably from 60 to 120 mm, particularly from 60 to 100 mm.
- the angle of frustoconicality (on one side of the curler relative to the axis) is less than 10 ° and can range from 2 ° to 6 °, in particular by 2, 5 ° to 4 °.
- the curler according to the invention can be used as follows, according to the current hairstyles or according to the wishes of the clients:
- the extreme tip of the wick can first be blocked by making the curler perform about one and a half turns, at the level of one or of the cylindrical bodies, then the hair is coiled helically, avoiding overlapping at each turn to finish.
- the winding at the root at the other end for example on the other cylindrical body of the curler in the case of the use of a curler provided with two cylindrical bodies.
- the curler is placed vertically like an English woman and is held in this position preferably by an elastic stretched between its two ends.
- Hair strands with a length of 60 cm or more can be treated in a single winding using curlers 15 or even 20 cm long.
- a curler according to the invention can also be used for perms and styling to be carried out by the technique known as double winding.
- the strands of very long hair are treated using two curlers according to the invention of different sizes but whose large diameter of one corresponds to the small diameter of the other.
- the manner of winding the hair is identical and the locks are, during the winding, maintained in round section.
- a wick treated in this way has, if it is cut transversely with a chisel, a cylindrical section.
- the elastic may be a flat elastic provided with a plurality of preferably rounded and regularly spaced orifices.
- an elastic of round section comprising at one of its ends a flattened part provided with an orifice in which a stud located at one end of the curler is introduced.
- the other end of the curler is then preferably provided with a collar provided with a plurality of slots, notches, notches or the like.
- the hair wound helically without overlapping and of equal thickness, is easily impregnated with the various treatment and rinsing liquids.
- the result obtained presents a perm with curls, well formed, flexible, of good resistance over time and easy to return to shape by the client after shampooing.
- the time for executing a perm on hair of average length is according to the invention reduced by around 40% by the reduction in the number of curlers to be laid and by the ease of holding them in place.
- the present application finally relates to a method of shaping hair, characterized in that it comprises an operation of winding hair around a curler above, starting the winding of a lock on the or one of the cylindrical or quasi-cylindrical bodies, so that the longest hairs of the lock are located on the large diameter side of the frustoconical body.
- Figure 1 shows a curler according to the invention in elevation.
- Figure 2 shows a curler according to the invention in elevation provided with a link.
- FIG. 3 is a section along AA 'in FIG. 1.
- the curler consists in most of its useful length of a hollow body of frustoconical shape 1 (50 mm) extended at each of its ends by a body 2, 3 shorter (20 and 15 mm ), cylindrical in shape (with diameters of 20 and 15 mm) and also hollow. It is provided with grooves 4 connecting the inside and the outside of the curler.
- the grooves 4 provide two rings 6, 7 placed at the junction of the frustoconical part 1 and the cylindrical parts 2 and 3, to improve the rigidity of the assembly (and incidentally allow better visualization on the drawing of the three main parts of the curler according to the invention).
- the grooves can be replaced by other types of orifices, such as circular holes as illustrated in Figure 2 or square meshes. It can also be a net installed on a metal or plastic frame.
- the strips of material 5 between the grooves 4 have a granite or striated appearance on their apparent surface in order to obtain a roughness limiting the sliding of the hair during winding.
- the curler illustrated here is provided at each end with an annular flange 8 (5 mm wide) and 9 (3 mm wide) protruding by about 2 mm relative to the surface of the cylindrical parts 2 and 3 thanks to their diameter greater than that of said cylindrical bodies.
- These flanges 8 and 9 fulfill a triple function: a) to maintain the lock of hair in the desired space, b) to prevent the sliding of the lock of hair out of the curler, c) to avoid or limit pressure on the hair if the curler is held in place by an elastic stretched between its two ends.
- the curler is also provided at one of its ends with a stud 11 extended by a hemispherical body 10 of diameter greater than that of the stud.
- the curler illustrated here is provided at the other end with notches or notches 13, 14 arranged on the periphery of the collar 8 to block an elastic band 12 as illustrated in FIG. 2, used for fixing the curler in the desired position and keep it at the desired tension.
- the flange 9, the stud 11 and the hemispherical body 10 can if desired be replaced by a flange of the flange type 8.
- the variant with two flanges 8 is not shown.
- FIG. 2 the same elements can be distinguished as in FIG.
- Figure 3 which is a cross section of a curler of the invention according to AA ', there are the notches 14 formed on the periphery of the flange 8. These are of a width less than the diameter of the link elastic 12 of circular section used to block the curlers so as to be able to block this elastic. It is possible to use one or two opposite notches 14 for this purpose. We can also observe the hollow configuration of the curler. In the case of the use of a stud 11, this can be installed on a bridge formed for example diametrically on a flange 9.
