Key with a moveable element (8), intended to cooperate with the barrel (14, 15) of a lock cylinder in order to release the said barrel (14, 15) so as to rotate, the key comprising a tail (2) connected to an operating head (1), the tail (2) being provided with elevations and/or indentations radially co-operating with moveable members to lock the barrel (14, 15) in rotation, the tail (2) also having a moveable element (8) arranged to be displaced in a transverse bore in the key tail (2) between an active position in which it cooperates with a complementary locking member of the barrel (14, 15) in the cylinder and an inoperative position,
      characterised in that the said moveable member (8) is subjected to the action of an axial pushing member (4) urged by a spring (5) and protruding in the inoperative position at the end of the tail (2) opposite the head (1) of the key.
    2. Key as claimed in claim 1,
      characterised in that the moveable member (8) and the pushing member (4) cooperate by means of complementary cam profiles.
    3. Key as claimed in claim 2,
      characterised in that the said complementary cam profiles are formed by complementary conical surfaces (9, 10).
    4. Lock assembly with a key as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, the lock comprising a cylinder formed by a body (17) provided with an axial bore (16) in which a barrel (14, 15) swivels, this barrel being provided with a key channel (24), the body (17) and the barrel (14, 15) each comprising a transverse passage (18, 19; 20) housing a complementary locking member (21) for the barrel (14, 15) with respect to the body (17), the said complementary locking member (21) being disposed so as to cooperate in the unlocking position and before rotation of the barrel (14, 15) with the moveable member (8) of the key in order to release the barrel (14, 15) so as to rotate,
      characterised in that the complementary locking member is formed by a ball (21) urged by a spring (22) and of which the centre (C) is disposed in the barrel (14, 15) in the inoperative position.
