Abstract

In a method for the spatial allocation of information (1,2) referring to one location ('A8, motorway exit Pasing') in a terminal unit (8), the information is transmitted (7) from an information provider (6) to the terminal unit (8) together with its assigned location co-ordinate data (3) concerning the geographic co-ordinates (geographic length and width) of the location, and with supplementary location data (4,5 ='A8'). In the terminal unit (8) the allocation of the information (1,2) to a location takes place: on the basis of a comparison of the location co-ordinate data (3) which is transmitted along with the information, and the location co-ordinate data in a reference data file in the terminal unit; and on the basis of a comparison (12, 14, 18) of the supplementary location data (4,5) which is transmitted along with the information (1,2), and supplementary location data in the reference file (10) in the terminal unit (8). By this method, and by a terminal unit, efficient and reliable location-referencing of the information transmitted from an information provider to the terminal unit is possible.

Description

The invention relates to a method for the spatial assignment of location-related information and a terminal for performing the method.

For the automatic evaluation of location-related information, such as traffic information, the terminal receiving this information is required to determine the location to which the information relates and to compare it with the location at which the terminal is located. It is problematic that the geographical positions of places are usually neither exactly nor uniquely determined, for example, places such as intersections, junctions, etc. are assigned in different maps, different geographical positions and updates of maps, etc., partly the geographical Change positions of places in the map or add new places, such as new branches.

A conceivable method for the spatial allocation in a terminal of information relating to a location would be a normalized assignment of an identity number to significant locations, such as road sections, motorway exits, etc., wherein the information provider and the terminal have identical tables of identification numbers and assigned locations , Although this procedure is clear, it can not be continuously updated without administratively complex centralized maintenance. Furthermore, due to the abstract identification number assignment in a terminal-side old code table, a spatial assignment of information received from an information provider at least at a designated by a new identity number new location, such as a new motorway exit, not possible.

In another conceivable method, places can be assigned names. In this case occurs on long roads, especially highways, the requirement of subdivision by additives, such as "between junction x and y", on. With regard to an automatic evaluation of information transmitted by an information provider to a terminal are different spellings, such as umlauts and abbreviations, and different names, such as Stachus or Karlsplatz in Munich, and the inconsistent designation of exits, etc. by the exit neighboring towns problematic.

It is also possible to assign a place by geographical coordinates, such as latitude and longitude of a place. However, the problem arises here that the same location, for example a street intersection, is in different maps in different positions, which is problematic when the traffic information center receives data relating to different maps, or if due to updating a map the geographical Change coordinates of a place in the map. Already with relatively small inaccuracies of specifying the geographic coordinates of a place that is no longer uniquely assignable in a terminal. A clear assignment of places to standardized geographic coordinates, however, would entail a high administrative effort in the definition and the care.

No. 12, 1.12.92 (Author G. Siegle) discloses a traffic information system in which in addition to coded messages that are decodable with a table in the terminal (eg 117 = 2 km traffic obstruction), coded location information is transmitted, which are also decodable with a table in the terminal (eg first 16 bits for the federal state, further digits for the motorway segments, etc.).

The object of the invention is to provide an efficient method for the spatial allocation in a terminal of information relating to a location and which are transmitted by an information provider to the terminal. The object is solved by the independent claims.

The method according to claim 1 is particularly useful for the transmission of traffic information. However, it is also suitable for other application examples.

Durch Ortszusatzdaten bezeichneteTransmitted geographical coordinates of the location to which information relates, represented by location coordinate data, may be present, for example, in two-dimensional coordinate representation, in particular as the geographical length and latitude of the location. By additional location data designated

Further, they may include one or more names of the place. Furthermore, they may include additional attributes of the location, such as the information as to whether it is at an intersection, junction, etc., on which lane and whether at the end, beginning or middle, etc.

If information transmitted to an end device by an information provider is transmitted with transmitted location coordinate data in a reference file in the terminal, the location for the terminal is defined. Due to the Ortszusatzdatei, in particular the street class and the street number, can still be a plausibility check. The location can be further processed and / or output based on the location coordinate data or on the basis of further data stored in the reference file for this location coordinate data. However, if the transmitted location coordinate data of the location in the reference file is not included in the terminal, and possibly also if the location auxiliary data is related to the location coordinate data in the terminal Reference file does not match the transmitted location overhead data, the location to which the information provider's information relates can be determined from the location overhead data transmitted along with this information and its location coordinate data by searching that location overhead data in the terminal's reference file. The additional use of location overhead data thus increases the likelihood of proper spatial allocation of received information to a location in the terminal and also avoids errors when, for example, using updated maps or using other than previously used maps, the geographic coordinates of a particular location according to the updated or other maps at the information provider change or differ from another information provider, while in the terminal only location coordinates for a particular map version are present.

The spatial assignment of information received in a terminal to the location to which it relates can be optimized by the type of location coordinate data and location auxiliary data transmitted to a terminal by information providers.

In particular, as noted above, location information includes the street class and street number of the location to which the received information relates, and / or the names of those locations; the additional location data also expediently have attributes of the location, such as the information as to whether there is an intersection or junction, to which lane they relate, beginning, end or middle of a lane etc.

The location coordinate data identifies the location to which information relates, conveniently by an identification number representing the geographical coordinates of the location. When rounding the geographical coordinates of the place to 10 to 500 m, in particular 100 m, so recording only the higher-ranking places (= from 100 m-valued) of the length and width in the location coordinate data (= GeoCode location coordinate file), are the location coordinate data very compact; the least significant digits of the location coordinates, in which errors often occur due to different maps and which do not greatly simplify the spatial allocation, are ignored.

The information, location coordinate data and location additional data are expediently transmitted in a predetermined format and / or predetermined order, preferably in both, from the information provider to the terminal, which facilitates automated processing in the terminal.

In particular, when a plurality of standardized map files are in use, an identification of those digital map of a traffic network to which the location coordinate data relate, advantageous because so due to the location coordinates associated with this digital map in the terminal, the place is easier to identify.

The method can be used for the transmission and spatial assignment of different information. In particular, information may be traffic information of a traffic information provider for a terminal that can be arranged in a vehicle. In addition to pure traffic information, such as traffic jams, travel times, average speeds, etc., the method can also be used in particular for interactive navigation, in which an unambiguous identification of a navigation information relevant place, such as the current location of the vehicle, is of importance.

The transmission of information from the information provider to the terminal can be done in different ways. In particular, it is possible to transmit the information with or without coding via radio, mobile radio, paging, etc.

The information is expediently output to a user of the terminal. For this they can be further processed. Thus, due to location coordinate data and / or additional location data, possibly with further data transmitted or taken from the reference file, a message for the user can be generated. In particular, if the location of the terminal is known to it, filtering of the information regarding e.g. local relevance to the user possible, with only relevant data is output to the user of the terminal. Furthermore, with knowledge of the position of the terminal, for example from GPS, and / or due to the tracking of the position of the terminal in a map in consideration of speed and steering wheel position, etc., a link of the location with the received information is possible; for example, the message "congestion on A3 between junction x and y" can be converted into "traffic jam in front of you at two kilometers distance with 30 km length".

Furthermore, a correction of the reference file in the terminal and / or the information provider in case of divergences of transmitted location coordinate data of a location is possible due to the co-transmitted location additional data in the reference file location coordinate data. In particular, it is possible to load an updated reference file from the information provider to the terminal via mobile communications, etc. Furthermore, a single correction of the specific location is possible; For example, the location coordinate data transmitted by the information provider to the terminal may be stored to a location in the terminal's reference file as location coordinate data of the location defined there by the location overhead data corresponding to the associated location overhead data.

In particular, a terminal according to the invention has a reference file with at least one assignment of location coordinate data to location auxiliary data on.

schematically the spatial assignment of a received information in the terminal to a location, taking into account a reference file in the terminal.

Taking into account the reference file of the terminal shown schematically in FIG. 1, information shown in FIG. 2, transmitted together with location coordinate data and additional location data, is allocated spatially in accordance with the method illustrated abstractly in FIG.

A traffic message illustrated by way of example in FIG. 2 comprises, in addition to the information (1,2) represented as "event" (1) and "30 km congestion" (2), location coordinate data 3 and location auxiliary data 4, 5 designated as GeoCode.

Such a message is transmitted by an information provider, such as a traffic information center 6 via mobile, paging, radio, etc. 7 to a terminal 8.

In the terminal 8, the traffic information 9 is spatially assigned to the location to which the information relates 1.2 due to a reference file 10 shown in FIG. In particular, the location coordinate data 3 called GeoCode can be used for this purpose. These are formed here by rounding and omitting low order digits to about 100 m accuracy from the geographic longitude 12 ° 34'99 "and latitude 56 ° 78'99" of the location to which the information relates (e.g., 12345678). This would also be in case of not possible assignment of transmitted information to a place due to lack of the transmitted to them location coordinates and the additional location data in the reference file 10 of the terminal 8 due to the GeoCode (eg '12345678', = location coordinate data) implied geographic latitude and longitude 12 ° 34 'W and 56 ° 78'N) an at least approximate spatial assignment of the information 1,2 to a location possible. In the simplest case, the location coordinate data 3 of the traffic message can be found in the reference file in the terminal 8. Then the additional location information 4.5 of the traffic message with additional location data 4.5 in the reference file 10 in the terminal 8 and possibly other attributes (such as "intersection", "Karlsplatz") are compared. If, under the transmitted location coordinate data 3 in the reference file 10 in the terminal 8, the additional location data 4,5 and possibly also the attributes 11,12 agree with the transmitted data, the location to which the information 1,2 relates is uniquely determined and can for the relevance check of the information 1,2 and / or output with the information 1,2 to the user of the terminal 8 and / or navigation are used. The relevance check may e.g. only filter out the information that is of importance to the user due to his location, which is determinable on the basis of route determination and / or GPS, etc. For example, only information of the road on which the user is traveling with the terminal 8 and / or in the direction of travel roads and / or a certain spatial radius can be considered.

However, if the location additional data 4, 5 under the entry in the reference file 10 do not match the transmitted location coordinate data 3 with the location auxiliary data 4, 5 transmitted with these location coordinate data 3, an entry with this location auxiliary data 4, 5 is searched for in the reference file 10 and its location as the location to which the information 1,2 refers. Optionally, instead of or in addition, attributes such as names, etc., of the location may be used for review. The attributes may also be used to supplement a message to be issued to a user of the terminal 8, for example by adding a name stored in the reference file in the terminal ("Departure Pasing") etc. of a location to that location information.

A sequence of the test is shown in FIG. A traffic message 9 sent by an information provider to a terminal with location coordinate data 3 and additional location data 4,5 and information 1,2 is further processed in the terminal 8. For this purpose, the location coordinate data 3 of the transmitted traffic message 9 in the terminal 8 in a reference file 10 are searched (12). If an entry is found here (13), it is checked for consistency and plausibility (14) by comparing the additional location data 4, 5 in the received traffic message 9 and in the reference file 10 in the terminal 8. If the location overhead data 4, 5 match, the location coordinate data 3 is defined as consolidated georeference 15 and considered as location 16 to which the information 1,2 refers. If, however, there is no entry for the location coordinate data 3 of the traffic message 9 (17), the location is determined on the basis of the location additional data 4, 5. This may in particular be the road class 4 (eg "highway" or "A") and the road number 5 (eg "8"). The road class ("A") and the road number can also be communicated together in one field ("A8") After this consistency check or supplement 18, the location thus obtained is regarded as a consolidated georeference (15) Attributes, such as the name ("Stachus" or "Karlsplatz" or "Departure Pasing"), are determined for the obtained information 1,2 and with this can be output to a user (as description 19). Furthermore, information 1,2 regarded as relevant on the basis of the location etc. can be output to a user of the terminal 8 with or without attributes.

If location coordinate data 3 and additional location data 4,5 and / or possibly also attributes 11 in the traffic message 9 and in the reference file 10 do not match, e.g. this error in the reference file 10 of the terminal 9 are automatically corrected or a new reference file 10, for example via mobile phone or otherwise, are loaded from the information provider to the terminal.

The above explanations are only an example. According to the invention, another assignment of the fields of the location additional data and / or location coordinate data is also possible. For example, alternatively or in addition to a field (or more - here 4, 5) for a road, etc., a field for a city ("Munich") may be provided.

In addition to the pure information, in particular traffic information, the method according to the invention is also particularly suitable for navigation, since this is as accurate and error-free as possible localization is of great importance.

In the terminal 8, which is not shown in detail here, the method is implemented in a program which is stored in the terminal. Furthermore, in particular for navigation methods, a map file can be used in the method and stored in the terminal. A reference file can be stored in the terminal; a reference file can also be stored on an exchangeable storage medium, such as a smart card or the like, wherein data from the memory can be read by a reading device in the terminal. For processing the program in the terminal, a processor is provided there. The information provider's information is received in the terminal in a receiving device for radio and / or mobile radio and / or pagers, etc. The output of possibly revised or supplemented information 1,2 etc. to a user of the terminal via an example acoustic or optical output device. Furthermore, a return channel, in particular the uplink of a mobile radio channel, can be provided for error correction or the download of a current reference file 10 into the terminal. The terminal is particularly suitable for installation in a vehicle. For determining the position, it may include, for example, a GPS receiver and / or a position determination by an internal map, the steering wheel position and odometer and / or speed counter, etc.
