  • Claims (7)

    1. A method of manufacturing deactivatable security elements for electronic article surveillance, said elements being comprised of a soft magnetic strip material of predetermined length which is excited into emitting a characteristic signal on the application of an alternating magnetic field, and of sections of defined length of a semi-hard or hard magnetic material, said sections being arranged with respect to the soft magnetic strip such that they suppress the characteristic signal of the soft magnetic strip when saturated,
         characterized by the steps of providing a continuous strip (4) of a semi-hard or hard magnetic material without overlayer and dividing the strip into the individual sections (3) of defined length,
      conveying said sections (3) of defined length by means of a conveyor belt (7) traveling at a speed exceeding the speed at which the continuous strip (4) is made available, with the relative speed being designed in such a way that a desired distance between two succeeding sections (3) is obtained, and
      joining a soft magnetic continuous strip (15) to the sections (3) of semi-hard or hard magnetic material arranged in spaced relationship to each other.
    2. The method as claimed in claim 1,
         characterized by the steps of applying to the spaced sections (3) of semi-hard or hard magnetic material a composite material (16), and
         placing the soft magnetic continuous strip (15) on the opposite side of the semi-hard or hard magnetic sections (3).
    3. The method as claimed in claim 1 or 2,
         characterized by the step of winding up the thus prepared web material (13).
    4. A device for manufacturing deactivatable security elements for electronic article surveillance, said elements being comprised of a soft magnetic strip material of predetermined length which is excited into emitting a characteristic signal on the application of an alternating magnetic field, and of sections of defined length of a semi-hard or hard magnetic material, said sections being arranged with respect to the soft magnetic strip such that they suppress the characteristic signal of the soft magnetic strip when saturated,
         characterized in that provision is made for a supply reel (5) from which a semi-hard or hard magnetic continuous strip (4) without overlayer is unwound,
      that provision is made for a cutting station (6) dividing the semi-hard or hard magnetic continuous strip (4) into individual sections (3) of a predetermined length,
      that provision is made for a conveyor belt (7) traveling at a speed exceeding the speed at which the semi-hard or hard magnetic continuous strip (4) is made available, so that the succeeding sections (3) of semi-hard or hard magnetic material are spaced from each other by the desired distance, and
      that provision is made for a further supply reel (11) from which a soft magnetic continuous strip (15) is unwound to be joined to the semi-hard or hard magnetic sections (3), thereby forming a web material (13).
    5. The device as claimed in claim 4,
         characterized in that the conveyor belt (7) is of the type including a vacuum source (8) arranged such that the individual sections (3) of semi-hard or hard magnetic material are fixed on the conveyor belt at the desired relative distance.
    6. The device as claimed in claim 4,
         characterized in that the conveyor belt (7) is of the type including at least one magnet (8) arranged such that the individual sections (3) of semi-hard or hard magnetic material are fixed on the conveyor belt at the desired relative distance.
    7. The device as claimed in claim 6,
         characterized in that provision is made for a take-up reel (14) onto which the web material (13) is wound.
