Eine modular aufgebaute Nähmaschine ist beispielsweise aus der DE-C2-34 21 995 bekannt. Diese umfasst ein Gehäuse mit einer Arbeitsstück-Tragplatte und einem Tragarm, der oberhalb der Arbeitsstück-Tragplatte angeordnet ist. Die Arbeitsstück-Tragplatte nimmt den Greifer und den Arbeitsstück-Vorschubmechanismus auf, im Tragarm ist die Nadelstange, der Drückerfussantrieb und die Fadenspannvorrichtung untergebracht.
