Side strips for an adjustable plate mould for the continuous casting of slabs, in particular for steel, which can be clamped between the wide sides (11, 12) of the mould and are joined to an adjustment device (61, 62) on the side facing away from the mould cavity (13) and connected to a coolant inlet and a coolant outlet (44, 45),
    characterised in that
    the side strips (21, 22) consist of an exchangeable portion (23) and a holding portion (27),
    each exchangeable portion (23) is made of copper and has a U-shaped form whose shanks (24) extend away from the mould cavity (13), and
    the holding portion (27) projects into the free space of the U-shaped portion (23) and can be joined with the shanks (24) in a detachable and friction-force retained manner.
  2. Side strips according to Claim 1,
    characterised in that
    the shanks (24) are of L-shaped design with their flanges (26) arranged at the foot end, facing one another.
  3. Side strips according to Claims 1 or 2,
    characterised in that
    pressure elements (31) are provided between the exchangeable portion (23) and the holding portion (27), by which these can be held together by friction-force retention.
  4. Side strips according to Claim 3,
    characterised in that
    membranes (32) that can be acted upon by a pressurising medium are provided, which can be pressed at one end against the holding portion (27) and at the other end against the inside (25) or the flanges (26) of the shanks (24) of the U-shaped exchangeable portion (23).
  5. Side strips according to Claim 3,
    characterised in that
    springs (33) are provided, which can be compressed by piston-cylinder units (34) and which connect the holding portion (27) to the exchangeable portion (23) by friction-force retention when the piston-cylinder unit (34) is depressurised.
  6. Side strips according to Claim 2,
    characterised in that
    wedges (35) are provided, which can be inserted between the surface of the flanges (26) inclined towards the mould cavity (13) and the corresponding surface of the holding portion (27).
  7. Side strips according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterised in that
    between the side of the U-shaped exchangeable portion (23) facing away from the mould cavity (13) and the outer surface of the holding portion (27) corresponding thereto, channels (41) are provided through which a coolant can flow.
  8. Side strips according to Claim 7,
    characterised in that
    the channels (41) are bores whose respective half-bores (42 or 43) are formed in the exchangeable portion (23) and/or the holding portion (27).
  9. Side strips according to Claim 8,
    characterised in that
    several channels (41) are provided, which are formed in a meander pattern and of which at least one half-bore (42) is connected to the coolant inlet (44) and another half-bore (43) is connected to the coolant outlet (45).
  10. Side strips according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterised in that
    the shanks (24) of the U-shaped exchangeable portion (23) converge on the side facing away from the mould cavity (13) and, in respect of their surface shape, correspond to the inside wall of the wide sides (11 or 12) in the adjustment area of the side strips (21, 22).
  11. Process for the exchange of the narrow sides in adjustable plate moulds for the continuous casting of slabs, in particular for steel, which can be clamped between the wider sides of the mould and are joined to an adjustment device on the side facing away from the mould cavity and in which the part of the side strip facing the mould cavity is made of copper, in which a mould with side strips according to any of the above claims is used,
    characterised in that
    when the clamping of the side strips by the wide sides has been released and the connections to the coolant inlets and outlets and the connection of the adjustment device to the holding portions have been undone, the exchangeable portion of the side strip made of copper is pulled out essentially parallel to the direction in which the strand emerges, and a new exchangeable portion is put back in and clamped in position.
