Definitions
- the invention relates to a female electrical contact, intended to receive a male tab, and more particularly an electrical contact female obtained by cutting, forming and folding a strip metallic.
- a female electrical contact of this type generally comprises the rear a crimping area on a conductor, and at the front a plug-in cage for the male tab. Inside the cage contact blades from the rear are retained preload to facilitate insertion of the male tab.
- Document FR-A-2 621 180 describes a female contact of this type in which the prestressing of the contact blades is ensured by extensions of the side walls of the plug cage, which are folded inwards and holding the ends of the blades contact.
- An object of the invention is to propose a female contact freed from this constraint.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a female contact obtained from a strip, with a saving of material, that is to say falls reduced to a minimum.
- the subject of the invention is a female electrical contact, obtained by cutting, forming and folding of a metal strip, comprising the rear a crimping area and the front a contact area, said contact zone comprising a front part constituting a cage for a male tab and having a bottom, two side walls and a top, contact blades being provided, extending forward between the side walls, having a curvature of contact with the male tongue, and being prestressed in the absence of a male tongue, characterized in that the blades of contact each carry laterally a lug cooperating with a background light to ensure prestressing.
- a metal strip is cut, and the cut 1 performed is substantially symmetrical about the longitudinal axis shown in broken lines.
- the cut 1 has two connecting lugs, one 2 at the rear and the other 3, in the front. These connection lugs connect the cutout 1 either to adjacent cut-outs in case of continuous step-by-step manufacturing not either to connecting strips in case of continuous production of ladder type.
- the cutout 1 has a crimping area 4 at the rear, and at the front a contact area 5.
- the crimping area essentially comprises two wings 6, 7 of crimping on the core of an electrical conductor, and two wings 8, 9 of crimping on the conductor sheath.
- the driver introduces himself in the axis of the cutout 1, and in the axis of the female contact, or clip, obtained after folding the blank.
- connection area 10 Between the crimping zone 4 and the contact zone 5 is located a connection area 10.
- the contact area 5 includes a front part 11 intended to constitute a plug cage, and a rear part 12 intended for constitute the contact bodies. Starting from the longitudinal axis, and on each side of this axis, there are corresponding elements.
- This flap 22, 23 carries rearward a blade 24, 25 intended to constitute the blade of electrical contact with the male tab intended to penetrate into the plug-in cage 11.
- this blade In a region close to the end 26, 27 contact blade 24, 25, this blade carries a pin 28, 29 towards outside.
- This lug 28, 29 is intended to cooperate with a light, 30, 31 respectively, arranged in the strip 13 constituting the bottom of the plug-in cage 11.
- the lights 30, 31 are arranged symmetrically to one another relative to the axis of the cutout 1. They are preferably, but not necessarily, separated by a relief 32, projecting towards the interior of the plug-in cage 11, obtained by forming, for example by stamping from below the strip 13 constituting the bottom of the plug-in cage 11.
- the strip 13 In the vicinity of connection zone 10, in the rear part 12 of the contact zone 5, the strip 13 has a central stop 33, formed by forming, for example by stamping by below, this central stop 33 projecting towards the inside of the contact area 5.
- each strip intended to constitute a wall lateral 14, 15 of the plug-in cage 11 carries an extension 34, 35, respectively, intended to be folded towards the inside of the cage 11, to protect the end 26, 27 of the corresponding contact blade 24, 25, and to ensure a guide of the male tab intended to penetrate into the cage 11.
- Each extension 34, 35 of side wall 14, 15 side door two flaps 36, 37 and 38, 39 respectively. These two flaps are intended to be bent towards the side walls 14, 15 so as to rest on these walls by their outer edges, in order to keep the extension 34, 35 away from the wall correspondent to make him play his role of protecting the end 26, 27 of the contact blade 24, 25, even when the male tongue is oblique or laterally offset by relative to the axis of the plug-in cage 11.
- each of the walls side 14, 15 has a window 40, 41, intended to cooperate with a member of the insulating casing protecting the female contact, or clip, according to the invention, to ensure the locking in relative position of the clip and insulating housing.
- the metal strip cut according to Figure 1 is formed, by stamped example, to constitute the relief 32 and the stop 33, for bend the crimping zone 4 between the wings 6, 7 and the wings 8, 9, this which appears in Figure 5 for example, and to bend the flaps 36 to 39 as shown in Figure 2.
- the blades 24, 25 are slightly arched upwards, around the fold lines 42, 43, and their ends 26, 27 are folded down towards the bottom so as to define a curvature 44, 45 ( Figure 2) intended to be in contact with the male tab inserted in the insertion cage 11.
- the blades 24, 25 are folded 180 ° forward, over the flaps 22, 23, respectively, then the assembly of a blade 24 (25) and of its flap 22 (23) is folded 180 ° inwards, on the strip intended to constitute the side wall 14 (15). To the right of the party rear 12 of contact zone 5, the side walls have therefore a triple thickness.
- the blades 24, 25 extend forward between the side walls 14, 15. Due to their camber, the blades 24, 25 are not supported on the side walls 14, 15 but move away from it forwards.
- the end 26, 27 of the blades 24, 25, which has been folded down, is located in rear of the protective screen formed by the extension 34, 35 and its curved shutters 36, 37 and 38, 39.
- Figure 5 shows in section the different elements of the connector female, or clip, and in particular the relative position of the end 27 of the blade 25 and its protective screen constituted by the extension 35 of the side face 15 and its two curved flaps 38, 39.
- the end 27 of the blade 25 is behind its screen protection and cannot be in contact with him.
- Figure 6 shows the position of the pins 28, 29 in the slots 30, 31.
- the female connector has a crimping zone 4 at the rear, and a contact zone 5 at the front.
- This contact area 5 includes a plug cage 11 at the front and a rear part 12 carrying the contact bodies.
- the plug-in cage is substantially parallelepiped, with a bottom 13, two side walls 14, 15, and a top made of two elements 16, 17 whose profiles 18, 19 cooperate to constitute a lock for closing the cage Insertion 11.
- the contact blades 24, 25 are folded from rear to front, at 180 °. They are arched so that their curves 44, 45 are approach the longitudinal axis of the clip.
- the pins 28, 29 cooperate with lights 30, 31 of the bottom 13 to ensure the setting prestressing of the blades 24, 25, so that they remain apart one from the other to facilitate the insertion of the male tab.
- the pins 28, 29 are resting on the inner edges of the lights 30, 31, that is to say the edges close to the longitudinal axis of the clip.
- the width of the lights 30, 31 is weak.
- the blades 24, 25 When inserting the male tab, the blades 24, 25 are separated from each other, the pins 28, 29 leave the edge interior of the lights 30, 31, and move until they are in support on the outer edges of the lights 30, 31 before the end of the insertion of the male tongue. Therefore, at the end of insertion of the tongue male, the blades 24, 25 are under stress and impose pressure maximum on the male tab. This provision avoids relaxation phenomena, i.e. loss of elasticity of the blades contact 24, 25 in case of high temperature due to overheating due to high current intensity in the contact. In return, this provision makes it necessary to lock the closure on top of the insertion cage.
- the insertion of the male tab into the clip is carried out with the tongue arranged in a vertical plane, between the side walls 14, 15. This insertion is guided by the two extensions 34, 35 side walls, folded inwards. Because of the prestressing of the blades 24, 25, the initial insertion effort is minimal. Then, while the blades move apart, it is weak. Finally when the blades are under stress, with the pins 28, 29 in abutment against the outer edges of the lights 30, 31, the insertion force is high.
- the male tab fits into the insertion cage 11, but it can insert up to the right of the stop 33, between the flaps 22, 23. If it presents itself obliquely, it can abut on the front edge of a flap 22 or 23. To avoid this risk, the front edge of the flaps 22, 23 is provided with a chamfer 46, 47 ( Figure 2).
- Figures 7 to 12 correspond to Figures 1 to 6 and the same references therein designate the same elements.
- the essential difference between the first embodiment of Figures 1 to 6 and the second embodiment of Figures 7 to 12 is that in the second mode two contact blades are provided instead of one alone, on each side of the insertion cage.
- the flap 22 (23) carries the blade 24 with its lug 28, but, parallel to the blade 24, and towards the longitudinal axis of the cutout 1, it carries a second contact blade 48 (49).
- This second contact blade 48, 49 may have a different length of the first (24, 25) and it has a camber different from the first (24, 25) so that its curvature 50, 51 is offset, in rear for example, relative to the curvature 44, 45 of the first blade 24, 25.
- the second blade 48, 49 does not carry a lug and is not subjected to prestressing.
- the effort to insert the male tongue is therefore limited because only the first blade 24, 25 is under stress in end of insertion and exerts maximum pressure on the male tab.
- the front end 52, 53 of the second blade 48, 49 is located also behind the protection screen constituted by the extension 34, 35 of the side wall 14, 15, the crushing of which by the male tongue, presented obliquely or offset laterally, is prevented by the curved side flaps 36, 37, 38, 39.
- the second embodiment with two contact blades on each lateral face, is more particularly adapted to the case of contacts of dimensions larger than the first. For this reason, the area of connection 10 has important straight edges for ensure its mechanical rigidity.
- the female electrical contact according to the invention ensures good quality of mechanical and electrical contact with a male tab, with minimal insertion effort at the start of insertion due to the contact blade preload, and maximum pressure at the end insertion due to blade stress.
