Description

The present invention relates to a stapler comprising an elongated magazine shaped to receive back width staple strips included in a determined width range, magazine cover secured to a rail and movable between a first position, where it gives access to the charger, and a second position in which the rail passes between the legs of a staple strip installed in the feeder to guide these towards an actuatable striker for detach and plant the head clip of the tape in a final support.

We know such staplers, designed for receive staples of different sizes, for example the stapler referenced ROCAFIX MS 10 in the catalogs of the French company Sofragraf Industries. In the instructions that are given for installing a straight strip of staples in the feeder stapler, it is specified that said strip must be in support against a determined lateral flank of the loader, before we bring the cover back from its premiere to its second position, in which the rail passes between the tabs of the tape staples. Indeed, if a band "back" width staples (distance between legs) less than the maximum permissible width by the stapler is resting on the other side of the feeder, and then we try to bring back the carrier cover the staple guide rail in its second position, in which he closes the charger, this rail can come abut against the strip of staples placed in the magazine, instead of passing freely between the legs of these staples. It is then no longer possible to close the feeder and use the stapler.

We know from FR-A-2 568 813 another stapler designed to accept staples of different sizes. This includes an elongated magazine or charger comprising two U-shaped profiles connected by a member central support serving as rail for staples. The two profiles have different widths. One is narrow, to enclose tightly one of the branches, or legs, of a staple. The other is wider so that it can accommodate the other staple tab, regardless of the back width of this one, as long as the latter is all even within a range of predetermined widths. The installation of a strip of staples on such a rail requires some attention because part of the strip must be enclosed in a U-shaped profile of narrow width, barely greater than the thickness of the wire making up the thickest staples that can receive the stapler.

The object of the present invention is to provide a stapler of the type described in the preamble to this description, which has none of the drawbacks mentioned above and which therefore allows the implementation place, without special precautions, a battery or strip of staples whose back width can vary in a predetermined area.

This object of the invention is achieved, as well as other which will appear on reading the description which will follow, with a stapler of the type described in the preamble to the present description, remarkable in that the rail is positioned on the charger cover and sized transversely so that when we bring it to its second position, it passes freely between the legs staples of a strip of such staples having a back width at least equal to the lower threshold of said predetermined width range, that said staples are supported on one or the other of two flanks parallel sides of the loader, and in that means cam are provided to move the rail laterally when the cover goes from its first to its second position.

As we will see later, this lateral displacement allows close guidance of the staple strip in the feeder, regardless of the back width of the tape staples, as long as this width is included in the range of predetermined widths.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear on reading the description which follows and on examining the appended drawing in which:
  • FIG. 1 is an elevation view of an improved stapler according to the present invention,
  • FIGS. 2 and 3 are schematic views, in cross section, of the magazine for the stapler according to the invention, taken along the section lines II-II and III-III of FIGS. 4 and 5 respectively, and
  • Figures 4 and 5 are schematic plan views of said slide, according to section lines IV-IV and VV of Figures 2 and 3 respectively.

We refer to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing where it appears that the stapler according to the invention comprises essentially a handle 1 and a lever 2 that we takes charge to arm and trigger, conventionally, a striker 3 suitable for detaching the head clip from a strip or stack of such staples 4 installed in a magazine 5 for the stapler. An elastic organ (not shown) pushes the staple strip in the direction of the arrow F, against a stop defining the position of the tape head clip, to the right of the striker 3. All these provisions are well known and do not require not a more detailed description.

Note that the handle 1, the lever 2 and, generally speaking, the entire envelope of stapler have rounded shapes with vocation ornamental only.

Comme représenté aux figures 2 et 3, les agrafes telles que l'agrafe 10 i d'une bande 4 de n agrafes (i de 1 à n) sont montées à cheval dans le chargeur, sur le rail 9.Reference is made to FIGS. 2 to 5 of the appended drawing in which the magazine 5 of the stapler according to the invention is shown diagrammatically. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, it takes the form of an elongated channel, of rectangular section for example, closed by a cover 8. In the embodiment shown, by way of illustrative and non-limiting example only , the cover 8 takes the form of a slide. The channel has a bottom 6 1 and lateral flanks 6 2 , 6 3 . These are hollowed out by two grooves 7 1 , 7 2 in which the slide 8 slides on which a U-shaped rail 9 is fixed, parallel to the large dimension of the slide. As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the staples such as the staple 10 i of a strip 4 of n staples (i from 1 to n) are mounted astride the charger, on the rail 9.

The stapler according to the invention is capable of receiving staples of different back widths and, possibly, of different thicknesses. FIGS. 2 and 3 show staples 10 i and 11 i with widths l 1 and l 2 and thickness e 1 and e 2 respectively, these staples having the extreme widths of a predetermined range of widths acceptable by the stapler. By way of illustrative and nonlimiting example, the stapler can thus accept staples of widths varying between 10.57 mm and 11.53 mm, a variation of almost 10% of the width of the staples.

It will be noted in Figures 2 and 3 that the width of the slide 8 is less than the distance between the bottoms of the grooves 7 1 , 7 2 in which this slide slides. This arrangement allows the slide, and the rail 9 which it supports, to pass from the position shown in FIG. 2 to that shown in FIG. 3, and vice versa, for the purpose explained above.

It is indeed appropriate that, whatever the width and the thickness of the staples placed in the magazine 5, the head staple is perfectly placed under the striker 3, in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the rail. To do this, it is necessary that at least on one side, for example that facing the flank 6 2 of the loader 5, the strip of staples 4 is guided closely between the rail and this flank, as shown in FIG. 3.

It is also advisable that, the magazine being opened in the position shown in solid lines in FIG. 4, and a strip of staples 4 deposited at the bottom of the charger, can close the magazine by pushing the slide 8 of the position shown in Figure 4 at the position shown in Figure 5. It is then necessary, according to a goal pursued by the present invention, that this maneuver requires no special precautions from the operator, and regardless of the width and / or position of the strip of staples deposited in the magazine.

This object of the invention is achieved by passing the rail 9 from a substantially central position in the charger, shown in Figure 2, in the position side shown in Figure 3.

The central position illustrated in FIG. 2 allows the rail to pass between the tabs of the staples, whatever their width (between 1 1 and l 2 ) and whatever the side, 6 2 or 6 3 , of the charger on which the strip is supported.

The lateral position illustrated in FIG. 3 defines a narrow channel between the rail 9 and the sidewall 6 2 of the loader, for example, of width slightly greater than the thickness of the thickest admissible clip. Thus the axis of the strip of staples remains substantially parallel to that of the rail, which makes it possible to present the head staple exactly to the right of the striker 3, itself constituted by a movable blade in a plane perpendicular to the rail axis.

There is shown in broken lines, in FIG. 4, the position of the slide 8 and of the rail 9 after the latter began to engage between the legs of the staples a strip of staples 4, the head staple of which is stop under the striker 3, by the thrust of the member elastic mentioned above, symbolized by the arrow F, and mounted on rail 9.

So that the rail 9 can pass without interference between the tabs of the staples, when it is pushed from the position of FIG. 4 to the position of FIG. 5, it is shown that the width R of the rail must be such that: R <21 2 + 2nd 2 - VS C being the width of the magazine, l 2 and e 2 the back width and the thickness of the smallest admissible staple, respectively.

Figure 00060001
So that the thinnest staple is properly guided in the space separating the rail 9 from the sidewall 6 2 of the loader, of equal width, to a clearance j near, to the thickness of the thickest staple, we constrain , according to the invention, the thicknesses e 1 and e 2 to satisfy the following relationships:
Figure 00060001

Par ailleurs, lorsque le coulisseau 8 ferme le chargeur 5, pour assurer un bon guidage de la bande d'agrafes 4 la plus large, des essais ont montré que la largeur R du rail 9 pouvait être choisie telle que : R>34 l 1 En outre, la bande la plus large doit pouvoir entrer dans le chargeur, ce qui entraíne : C > l1 + 2e1 Furthermore, when the slide 8 closes the magazine 5, to ensure good guidance of the widest strip of staples 4, tests have shown that the width R of the rail 9 could be chosen such that: R > 3 4 l 1 In addition, the widest strip must be able to enter the charger, which leads to: C> l 1 + 2nd 1

Des relations (1), (3) et (4) ci-dessus, on tire : l 2 > 78 l 1+e 1-e 2 From relations (1), (3) and (4) above, we derive: l 2 > 7 8 l 1 + e 1 - e 2

The relationships given above make it possible to calculate the lateral offset which the slide 8 must undergo in order to bring the rail from the position shown in FIG. 2 to the position shown in FIG. 3. In practice, this offset is obtained by means of cam means provided at the ends of the grooves 7 1 , 7 2 , and of the slide 8, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. These cam means comprise cams 12 1 , 12 2 proper formed at the two ends of the slide 8, on two opposite edges of the latter, these cams projecting from these edges with the same thickness, equal to the calculated offset. The cams 12 1 , 12 2 cooperate with counter-cams 13 1 , 13 2 respectively, formed at the bottom of the grooves 7 1 , 7 2 respectively, at two opposite ends thereof.

At their other opposite ends, these grooves comprise cams 14 1 , 14 2 , of the same height as the aforementioned cams and counter-cams, which cooperate with the straight edges 15 1 , 15 2 opposite the slide 8 to maintain the parallelism of the axes of the slide 8 and of the loader 5, when the latter is closed by the slide. This parallelism ensures the correct positioning of the clips under the striker 3, in a plane perpendicular to its axes.

To load the stapler with a strip of staples as defined by these relationships, we open the loader by sliding the slide 8 to the position shown in Figure 4. The strip is deposited in the feeder so that the backs of the staples rest against the bottom of this charger. We then close the loader by simply pushing slide 8 to the position shown in Figure 5, position in which it is retained by a pawl (not shown). A operating button 15 (see figure 1) disengages this ratchet to open the magazine. During the movement of closing of the charger, rail 8 engages without fail between the legs of the staples, whatever the position cross section of the staple strip, and there is then fear that there is no risk of rail jamming by a stop on the strip of staples. At the end of the slide movement, the cams and cams mentioned above cause automatically the lateral offset of the rail necessary for the narrow guide of the staple strip.

It now appears that the present invention achieves the goal, namely to ensure placement of staples of variable width in the stapler magazine, without special precautions and this while ensuring good guidance of all strip of staples, from the smallest to the widest, in the extent that the dimensions of these staples are linked by relations (2) and (5) above.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the mode described and depicted as an example. This is how this invention can be easily adapted to a charger on which the rail is hinged rather than mounted on sliding.
