- the present invention relates to a folder / inserter documents as known from US-A-5,154,405, in particular in the field of processing and routing some mail. More particularly, it relates to a device allowing automatic envelope feed from a printer general purpose.
- printers of the type laser or inkjet, are not specifically intended to deliver envelopes but rather documents, generally in A4 format. It results that when they have to print envelopes, depending on the type of printer used or according to the manufacturer, these can be delivered by the printer in different orientations. For example, the printer can deliver the envelopes according to their longitudinal dimensions with a jog on the right edge. But this jogging can on some other models can be done on the left, or else be centered. Envelopes can also exit according to their transverse dimensions.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a specially adapted feeding device and allowing a machine (or module) for folding and / or insertion to be supplied with empty envelopes directly from a general purpose printer.
- a goal of the invention is to propose a device adapted to the different models market printer.
- Another goal is to offer a suitable device different formats of existing envelopes.
- an envelope feeder from a general purpose printer for a folding machine and / or for inserting documents comprising a position detection means of the envelope leaving the printer and a means of redirecting this envelope to allow the insertion of documents according to its position determined by said detection means.
- the envelope can be routed towards the envelope path of the folder / inserter where it will appear in an optimal insertion position.
- the type of printer or size of the envelopes no longer matter and the folder / inserter equipped with this device becomes truly universal.
- the detection means comprises a detector of a front of the envelope. It may also include means of determination of the orientation of the envelope.
- the reorientation means comprises a plate turning whose rotation, in the same plane, allows to move the envelope of a first position corresponding to its output position printer in a second position allowing the insertion of documents. It also has a counter plate against which the plate turn can be moved by means of a second drive means, to allow the envelope to be immobilized by pinching for its rotation.
- the rotation of the turntable is ensured by a first motor means under the action of a control means.
- the feed device further comprises first means of driving the envelope from an entrance to the device up to reorientation means and second means drive the envelope redirected to an output of the device.
- the drive means are actuated according to the position of the envelope determined by the detection means.
- These means of detection may include means for determining the format of the envelope.
- the first and second drive means consist of at least two parallel sets of rollers drive controlled by a third motor means common to these two drive means and acting against counter rollers associates.
- the drive rollers are in number and in position determined to allow all envelopes to be trained formats and all orientations.
- the invention also relates to a folding machine and / or for inserting documents with such a feeder envelopes.
- a folding and / or insertion machine is used to ensure the envelopes of mail folds such as documents, inserts advertising or reply envelopes, preferably as and as these folds are made. It is part of the equipment of a secretarial post where it constitutes one of the machines put at the available to the person working at this position. This machine is simply placed on its work plan and its access must be easy, in particular for the presentation of the folds which this person ensures the setting in an envelope.
- FIGS 1, 2a and 2b show according to different views an envelope feeder according to the invention which is intended to be preferably integrated into a folding machine and / or insertion (not shown) or possibly to form a module autonomous can be arranged upstream of a folding machine and / or traditional insertion instead of its loading bin in empty envelopes.
- This device includes a pocket for receiving envelopes 8 forming a transport path for these envelopes and arranged between a first fixed guide plate 10 used for referencing upper envelope and a second fixed guide plate 12 serving to a lower referencing of these envelopes.
- This pocket is intended to forward the envelopes one by one in a direction D of movement from an input of the device (which is in direct connection with output from a general purpose printer) to output from the device (which is in direct connection with the machine insertion module or with its entry of empty envelopes according to the internal or external configuration of the device).
- the number of these roller / counter-roller pairs is at least two per drive assembly 14, 16, 18 and preferably four. Their distribution on the common tree is determined so that the envelope is always engaged in the device whatever its format or orientation at the output of the printer. Indeed, the envelope can go out in the direction of the length or the width, being or not centered. In addition, this envelope can be jogged right or left with its flap positioned itself right or left. In Figure 2 are illustrated in dashed lines three different envelope orientations: exit widthwise (Env1), outlet centered lengthwise (Env2) and exit in the direction of the length jogged to the right (Env3).

- a turntable 26 for moving the envelope, in a same plane, of a first position corresponding to its position at exit printer in a second position allowing the insertion of documents in this envelope.
- the rotation of the turntable 26 is ensured by a first motor means 28 actuated by control means 24 in depending on the state of the detection means 22.
- the turntable can besides moving vertically against a movable counter-plate 30 rotating in the first fixed plate 10 to allow immobilization the envelope by pinching for its rotation.
- This uplift from the plateau turning which is ensured, via a first cam 33, at means of a second motor means 32 is carried out concurrently with a lowering of the carriage 20 carrying the drive assemblies 14, 16, 18 and produced by means of a second cam 34a, 34b.
- the action of the first cam 33 on the turntable 26 is effected through a pivoting lever 35 provided with an elongated opening 350 through which can slide a central axis 260 of the turntable.
- the pivoting of the lever (and therefore the movement of the turntable) under the action of the rotation of the first cam 33 is performed against first spring means 262 connected between this plate and a fixed part of the device, for example the second plate fixed 12.
- the action of the second cam 34a, 34b on the carriage 20 takes place at against second spring means 200, connected between this carriage and a fixed part of the device, via a cam stop 202a, 202b attached to this carriage
- the drive assemblies which extend over substantially the entire width of the first and second plates 10, 12 are arranged on the side and other of the assembly formed by the motorized turntable and the counter-plate and constituting a means of redirecting the envelopes, according to a plane parallel to direction D of movement.
- the trees 108, 208, 308 of these drive assemblies are ordered by a third common motor means 36 of the stepping motor type, by example through toothed gears 38, 40, 42, 44, 46 and a belt endless 48.
- the operation of the envelope supply device is as follows: The envelope from the printer is introduced at the input of the device into the pocket 8 where it comes into engagement with the first drive assembly 12 actuated by the third motor means 36. The envelope is then brought along the transport path on the turntable 26. The third motor means being stopped (the duration of the command of this motor depending on the format of the envelope), the second motor means 32 is actuated to lift the turntable and come to press and immobilize the envelope against the counter-plate 30. Simultaneously, the carriage 20 supporting the drive assemblies 14, 16, 18 is lowered. The rise of the turntable being stopped, the first motor means 28 is then actuated to drive in rotation the assembly which has become integral with the tray / envelope / counter-tray.
- the direction of rotation depends closely on the orientation of the envelope leaving the printer (including the position of the flap) according to the following table: Envelope Position Rotation angle Over width Flap forward 0 ° Over width Flap back 180 ° (or -180 °) Over length Right flap 270 ° (or -90 °) Over length Left flap 90
- the first drive means is stopped and the second drive means is again actuated to lower the platform turning and simultaneously reassemble the drive assemblies.
- the envelope can then be routed to the output of the device, this time with the second and third drive assemblies 16, 18, where it is presented in an optimal position for document insertion.
- the invention is of course not limited to the sole example of preferential realization described above but it also relates to variants within the reach of ordinary skill in the art. For example, we can consider to firmly hold the envelope on this turntable a device vacuum suction in place of the counter plate and the vertical movement of this turntable. Likewise, a passage of the front of an envelope is sufficient to determine the position of envelope out of the printer when a computer connected to the printer can recognize the latter and have the format and orientation characteristics of the envelopes used.

Description
La présente invention se rapporte à une plieuse/inséreuse de documents tel que connue du brevet US-A-5 154 405, notamment dans le domaine du traitement et de l'acheminement du courrier. Plus particulièrement, elle concerne un dispositif permettant une alimentation automatique en enveloppes à partir d'une imprimante à usage général. The present invention relates to a folder / inserter documents as known from US-A-5,154,405, in particular in the field of processing and routing some mail. More particularly, it relates to a device allowing automatic envelope feed from a printer general purpose.
It is known in particular by French patent n ° 93 15909 filed in name of the applicant an automatic feeding device in documents intended to be mounted on a folding and / or insertion machine of documents and comprising a plurality of operating modes providing this machine with great flexibility of use. Indeed, the document entry of this machine is surmounted by at least two bins loading documents likely to cooperate with this entry according to different operating modes, individually or in combination with each other, using detectors and devices drive managed by a microprocessor of the general circuit of machine control. Empty envelopes are fed by means of an envelope loading tray preferably arranged at the back of the machine.
Avec la demande de brevet intitulée « Système de préparation d'articles de courrier », déposée conjointement à la présente demande, la demanderesse a divulgué un nouveau type de machine de préparation de courrier entièrement autonome faisant notamment appel à une imprimante à usage général alimentant directement un module de pliage et/ ou d'insertion de documents. With the patent application entitled "Preparation system of mail items ”, filed jointly with this application, the Applicant has disclosed a new type of preparation machine for fully autonomous mail, notably using a general use directly feeding a folding and / or insertion module of documents.
Or cette liaison directe entre le module de pliage et/ou d'insertion et cette imprimante à usage général pose le problème inédit jusqu'à ce jour du transfert de l'enveloppe entre ces deux éléments, les modules d'insertion actuels (qui fonctionnent uniquement avec un bac de chargement automatique d'enveloppes vides) s'avérant totalement inadaptés pour coopérer avec une imprimante à usage général qui délivrerait directement ces enveloppes. However, this direct connection between the folding and / or insertion module and this general purpose printer poses the problem hitherto unpublished from transfer of the envelope between these two elements, the insertion modules current (which only work with a loading bin automatic empty envelopes) proving totally unsuitable for cooperate with a general purpose printer that would deliver directly these envelopes.
This very large variety of output configuration is further complicated by the fact that the sizing of these envelopes suffers from a lack of standardization (the standard American format # 10 (105 mm x 241 mm) is for example different from standard French format C5 / 6 (114 mm x 229 mm)).
La présente invention a pour but de remédier à ces inconvénients en proposant un dispositif d'alimentation spécialement adapté et permettant à une machine (ou module) de pliage et/ou d'insertion d'être alimentée en enveloppes vides directement par une imprimante à usage général. Un but de l'invention est de proposer un dispositif adapté aux différents modèles d'imprimante du marché. Un autre but est de proposer un dispositif adapté aux différents formats d'enveloppes existants. The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a specially adapted feeding device and allowing a machine (or module) for folding and / or insertion to be supplied with empty envelopes directly from a general purpose printer. A goal of the invention is to propose a device adapted to the different models market printer. Another goal is to offer a suitable device different formats of existing envelopes.
Ces buts sont atteints par un dispositif d'alimentation en enveloppes issues d'une imprimante à usage général pour une machine de pliage et/ou d'insertion de documents comportant un moyen de détection de la position de l'enveloppe en sortie de l'imprimante et un moyen de réorientation de cette enveloppe pour permettre l'insertion des documents en fonction de sa position déterminée par ledit moyen de détection. These goals are achieved by an envelope feeder from a general purpose printer for a folding machine and / or for inserting documents comprising a position detection means of the envelope leaving the printer and a means of redirecting this envelope to allow the insertion of documents according to its position determined by said detection means.
Par cette architecture particulière, l'enveloppe peut être acheminée vers le chemin d'enveloppes de la plieuse/inséreuse où elle se présentera dans une position optimale d'introduction. Le type d'imprimante ou le format des enveloppes ne présentent plus d'importance et la plieuse/inséreuse munie de ce dispositif devient réellement universelle. By this particular architecture, the envelope can be routed towards the envelope path of the folder / inserter where it will appear in an optimal insertion position. The type of printer or size of the envelopes no longer matter and the folder / inserter equipped with this device becomes truly universal.
Avantageusement, le moyen de détection comporte un détecteur d'un front de l'enveloppe. Il peut en outre comporter des moyens de détermination de l'orientation de l'enveloppe.Advantageously, the detection means comprises a detector of a front of the envelope. It may also include means of determination of the orientation of the envelope.
Preferably, the reorientation means comprises a plate turning whose rotation, in the same plane, allows to move the envelope of a first position corresponding to its output position printer in a second position allowing the insertion of documents. It also has a counter plate against which the plate turn can be moved by means of a second drive means, to allow the envelope to be immobilized by pinching for its rotation. The rotation of the turntable is ensured by a first motor means under the action of a control means.
Le dispositif d'alimentation selon l'invention comporte en outre des premiers moyens d'entraínement de l'enveloppe depuis une entrée du dispositif jusqu'au moyen de réorientation et des seconds moyens d'entraínement de l'enveloppe réorientée vers une sortie du dispositif. Les moyens d'entraínement sont actionnés en fonction de la position de l'enveloppe déterminée par les moyens de détection. Ces moyens de détection peuvent comporter des moyens de détermination du format de l'enveloppe. The feed device according to the invention further comprises first means of driving the envelope from an entrance to the device up to reorientation means and second means drive the envelope redirected to an output of the device. The drive means are actuated according to the position of the envelope determined by the detection means. These means of detection may include means for determining the format of the envelope.
Avantageusement, les premiers et seconds moyens d'entraínement sont constitués par au moins deux ensembles parallèles de rouleaux d'entraínement commandés par un troisième moyen moteur commun à ces deux moyens d'entraínement et agissant à l'encontre de contre-rouleaux associés. Les rouleaux d'entraínement sont en nombre et en position déterminés de façon à permettre un entraínement d'enveloppes de tous formats et de toutes orientations.Advantageously, the first and second drive means consist of at least two parallel sets of rollers drive controlled by a third motor means common to these two drive means and acting against counter rollers associates. The drive rollers are in number and in position determined to allow all envelopes to be trained formats and all orientations.
L'invention concerne également une machine de pliage et/ou d'insertion de documents muni d'un tel dispositif d'alimentation d'enveloppes. The invention also relates to a folding machine and / or for inserting documents with such a feeder envelopes.
D'autres caractéristiques et avantages de la présente invention ressortiront mieux de la description suivante, faite à titre indicatif et non limitatif, en regard des dessins annexés, sur lesquels:
- la figure 1 représente une vue de côté d'un dispositif d'alimentation en enveloppes selon l'invention,
- la figure 2a montre une vue de dessus du dispositif de la figure 1, et
- la figure 2b est une section selon le plan II-II de la figure 2a.
- FIG. 1 represents a side view of a device for feeding envelopes according to the invention,
- FIG. 2a shows a top view of the device of FIG. 1, and
- Figure 2b is a section along the plane II-II of Figure 2a.
We know that a folding and / or insertion machine is used to ensure the envelopes of mail folds such as documents, inserts advertising or reply envelopes, preferably as and as these folds are made. It is part of the equipment of a secretarial post where it constitutes one of the machines put at the available to the person working at this position. This machine is simply placed on its work plan and its access must be easy, in particular for the presentation of the folds which this person ensures the setting in an envelope.
On se réfère aux figures 1, 2a et 2b qui montrent selon différentes vues un dispositif d'alimentation en enveloppes selon l'invention qui est destiné à être de préférence intégré à une machine de pliage et/ou d'insertion (non représentée) ou éventuellement à former un module autonome pouvant être disposé en amont d'une machine de pliage et/ou d'insertion traditionnelle en lieu et place de son bac de chargement en enveloppes vides. We refer to Figures 1, 2a and 2b which show according to different views an envelope feeder according to the invention which is intended to be preferably integrated into a folding machine and / or insertion (not shown) or possibly to form a module autonomous can be arranged upstream of a folding machine and / or traditional insertion instead of its loading bin in empty envelopes.
fous 110, 112, 114, 116 ; 210, 212 ; 310, 312.This device includes a pocket for receiving
(Env2) et sortie dans le sens de la longueur taquée à droite (Env3).The number of these roller / counter-roller pairs is at least
two per
Detection means 22 connected to a general control means
24 (for example with microprocessor and memories) are provided at the level of
the input of the device for determining the position of the envelope at the output of
the printer. These means advantageously include at least one
envelope front detector. A means of supply (after
prior registration by the operator in a microprocessor memory)
the size and orientation of the envelope output from the printer to
general use (this orientation is in principle fixed for a type
given printer) can be provided in combination with the detector to
determine this position. Knowledge of the format allows control of the
transport of the envelope by the
sans fin 48.The drive assemblies which extend over substantially the entire
width of the first and
devenu solidaire plateau/enveloppe/contre-plateau. Le sens de rotation
dépend étroitement de l'orientation de l'enveloppe en sortie de l'imprimante
(y compris la position du rabat) selon le tableau suivant :
Rabat en avant

Flap forward
Flap back
Right flap
Left flap
Une fois la rotation effectuée, le premier moyen moteur est arrêté et
le second moyen moteur est à nouveau actionné pour abaisser le plateau
tournant et simultanément remonter les ensembles d'entraínement.
L'enveloppe peut alors être acheminée vers la sortie du dispositif, cette fois
avec les second et troisième ensembles d'entraínement 16, 18, où elle est
présentée dans une position optimale pour l'insertion des documents.Once the rotation has been carried out, the first drive means is stopped and
the second drive means is again actuated to lower the platform
turning and simultaneously reassemble the drive assemblies.
The envelope can then be routed to the output of the device, this time

The invention is of course not limited to the sole example of preferential realization described above but it also relates to variants within the reach of ordinary skill in the art.
Claims (12)
- A feed device for feeding a document folding and/or inserting machine with envelopes delivered by a general purpose printer, said feed device being characterised in that it comprises detection means (22) for detecting the position of the envelope at the outlet of the printer and reorientation means (26, 28, 30) for reorienting the envelope as a function of its position as determined by said detection means so as to enable documents to be inserted into the envelope.
- A feed device according to claim 1, characterised in that said detection means comprise a detector for detecting an edge of the envelope.
- A feed device according to claim 2, characterised in that said detection means further comprise means (24) for delivering the orientation of the envelope.
- A feed device according to claim 1, characterised in that said reorientation means comprise a turntable (26) which, by rotating within a plane, makes it possible to displace the envelope from a first position corresponding to its position at the outlet of the printer to a second position enabling documents to be inserted into it.
- A feed device according to claim 4, characterised in that the turntable (26) is rotated by first drive means (28) under the action of control means (24).
- A feed device according to claim 4 or claim 5, characterised in that said reorientation means further comprise a counter-turntable (30) against which the turntable can be displaced by means of second drive means (32), so as to hold the envelope stationary by clamping it so that it can be rotated.
- A feed device according to claim 1, characterised in that it further comprises first propulsion means (14) for propelling the envelope from an inlet of the device to the reorientation means, and second propulsion means (16, 18) for propelling the reoriented envelope to an outlet of the device.
- A feed device according to claim 7, characterised in that said propulsion means are actuated as a function of the position of the envelope as determined by said detection means.
- A feed device according to claim 8, characterised in that said detection means further comprise means (24) for delivering the format of the envelope.
- A feed device according to claim 7, characterised in that the first and second propulsion means are constituted by at least two parallel assemblies of propulsion rollers (100, 102, 104, 106; 200, 202; 300, 302) controlled by third drive means (36) common to the two propulsion means and acting against associated counter-rollers (110, 112, 114, 116; 210, 212; 310, 312).
- A feed device according to claim 10, characterised in that there are at least two of said propulsion rollers, and they are spaced apart such that the envelope is always engaged.
- A document folding and/or inserting machine equipped with a feed device according to any one of claims 1 to 11.
