The present invention relates to a method for sealing and vacuum sealing of a presentation packaging of a noble product, in particular of a high feed product quality, using a stretch and peelable film. She also relates to a stretchable and peelable packaging film having the distinction of being printed or intended to be printed in several colors in flexogravure or multi-color gravure printing, particularly in tri- and four-color process as well as the use, in the field skin packaging, stretch film and peelable view of vacuum sealing and sealing a high-quality product presentation packaging quality, especially of a food product.

The sale of food products in large areas require very decorative packaging high quality, which highlight so convincing the value and the freshness of the products.

Generally the products are presented from prestigious way on a tray or a casserole dish. They are then covered with a top film highly transparent which wraps products like a second skin.

On this film is affixed a label printed sticker, which aims to convey a advertising message in illustrated or written form. At minimum there are the mandatory information such as : weight, ingredients, barcode and deadline sale.

High range products are appropriate, such as selected pieces of meat, slices of smoked ham, pâtés or fillets of fish or game.

The plastic films used must have certain thermal and mechanical properties and meet at least the following requirements:
  • good impermeability to gases and water vapor to ensure long storage;
  • easy opening of the weld despite the requirement for a high seal of the weld;
  • prestigious presentation;
  • high gloss;
  • surface finish allowing the sticking of printed self-adhesive labels, and
  • high thermal stability.

US-A-3912823 discloses a stretched and printed PET film. However, this film is not complexed to a support welding by means of an adhesive In the document US 3912823, when welding the lower PET film "1" with the upper film in PET "2", the upper film is not of the peelable type. In fact, in the packaging according to US-A-3912823, the lower and upper films must belong to the same family to allow their welding to each other. The weld obtained between said films is permanent, that is, is not peelable. Opening the packaging made of welded PET films requires the use of a sharp object.

We know from document EP-A-0328245, the use of coextruded skin films based on peelable polyethylene and barrier used as display packaging for meats and other commodities food.

These coextruded films, by their structure relatively flexible allow them to surround perfectly the contours of the products to be packaged without show any wrinkles. They form a barrier effective against gases.

Because of their great elasticity, linked to their manufacturing process as well as to the nature of resins used, these materials do not have the necessary and sufficient characteristics to be printed because, for example, rotogravure printing multicolored in three- or four-color requires the use a printable medium with good stability dimensional printing machine. This dimensional stability allows to have when printing, perfect identification of the different colors and the constancy of a mechanical step imposed by the packaging machine.

As a result, the supports manufactured by coextrusion and used to date in applications "skin" due to their great elongation power, make it unsuitable for the gravure printing described above.

In addition, the holding of the printing step on the packaging machine is very random.

It should also be noted that these films cannot be printed only on the surface, which greatly decreases their brilliance as well as the commercial appeal of product. We also note the difficulty of doing properly adhere to printing inks.

Therefore, the obligation to use printed self-adhesive labels to affix on the support to make it commercially more attractive and indicate there the mentions imposed by law the end user to invest on these lines of production in automatic labeling machines which result in considerable extra work and affect production rates, particularly by stops when changing label rolls.

However, in the field of skin, the demand for multi-color rotogravure printable material, particularly in three- or four-color printing is very strong. In addition, we know from patent WO 95/21105 the use of a film oriented or not, extruded or PVA (Polyvinyl Alkohol) coextruded, as skin material for the packaging of non- food.

The document describes that certain components are water soluble and it teaches the use of a porous lower support and therefore non-barrier to gas.

We can therefore consider that such a system is unable to preserve food with a shelf life of 21 to 90 days and this at very high ambient humidity levels and storage temperatures between 4 and 7 ° C.

A fortiori, the fact that this material is soluble in water at a temperature of 40 to 100 ° C, and preferably in cold water, makes it unsuitable for use in a humid environment.

In light of all the limits techniques highlighted by the materials used above as well as a growing demand to produce a printed "skin" marked material for use among others in the food sector, the present invention consists in selecting a film highly transparent, stretchable and peelable, mono or biaxially oriented and use it for packaging under film and vacuum of noble products, in particular of food products intended to be presented in a prestigious way on a tray or thermoformed tray.

The present invention consists in using a highly transparent film for packaging under film and vacuum products, especially food products intended to be presented from prestigious way on a tray, or a ravier thermoformed which is covered with a top strip initially flat and only heated.

According to a feature of the invention, the stretch film is oriented, printed or intended film to be printed on the back in flexography or multi-color three- or four-color gravure printing, by example based on polyethylene terephthalate of the type Mylar® M45 (coated with PVDC 1µ) or Mylar® P25 sold by DuPont de Nemours®. We can also use oriented polypropylene or nylon film oriented by monoaxial or biaxial stretching.

The machines used for manufacturing decorative vacuum skin packaging under which used this printed film are type machines MULTIVAC®R530 which include forming stations, ISOPACK® KIT filling and welding.

  • film étirable orienté / impression verso / adhésif / polyéthylène;
  • film étirable orienté / impression verso / adhésif / polyéthylène;
  • film étirable orienté / impression verso / adhésif / ionomère;
  • film étirable orienté / adhésif / polyéthylène;
  • film étirable orienté / adhésif / coextrudé soudant;
  • film étirable orienté / impression / adhésif / ionomère.
According to a further development of the invention, the film has one of the following structures:
  • oriented stretch film / back printing / adhesive / polyethylene;
  • oriented stretch film / back printing / adhesive / polyethylene;
  • oriented stretch film / back printing / adhesive / ionomer;
  • oriented stretch film / adhesive / polyethylene;
  • oriented stretch / adhesive / coextruded welding film;

A method and a machine for making the vacuum sealing and sealing of a packaging of presentation of a noble product, in particular a high quality food product, using a stretch and peelable film are known from the document EP-A-0039056. Such a machine includes as illustrated in Figure 4, a heating, vacuum and welding called "station skin®" ISOPACK® system in which the product to be packaged 5 placed on the lower support 2 slightly thermoformed 14 east vacuum-wrapped with top film 1 initially plan and heated in the station for allow the latter to marry all forms of products to be packaged 5.

Figure 5 shows that the upper vacuum sucks the upper film 1 in the dome and that the vacuum created by underneath allows the lower support 2 slightly thermoformed 14 to be well fixed in the mold.

Figure 6 shows that the top film is heated by the welding plate.

Figures 7 and 8 show that by a discount to the more or less rapid atmosphere of the station, the upper film comes off and hugs all contours of the product to be packaged.

During this phase, the film is welded on all the surface surrounding the Product to be packaged as well as on the contours of the packaging thanks to a plate of peripheral welding specific to the ISOPACK® system.

Figure 9 shows that the weld plate deviates after sealing.

Figure 10 shows the full opening of the station, once the packaging process completed.

The upper film 1 is guided on its edges lateral, by guide chains 7 from introduction into the vacuum chamber until exit vacuum packaging 3, and the bottom strip 2 is guided by guide chains 4 from its introduction until immediately ahead of the vacuum chamber 9 (Figure 3).

The guide chains 4, 7 have flat fasteners 10 and flat fasteners of the chain guide 4, when releasing the strip lower 2 in front of the empty chamber 9, are tipped apart, laterally from the lower band 2, by a lifting ring 11 which is tapers outward.

The upper film 1 is grabbed, on the left and at right, by staple chains and moved to each cycle in advance before by a device training and positioning. A device for corner cutting 12 creates a loose corner on the packaging loosely attached which serves as an opening aid. In the station forming 13 the lower strip is heated and previously transformed into trays 14. The product 5 to be packed is placed on the tray 14, by hand or automatically. The upper film 1 is unwound by an unwinding system with adjustment of the tension of the movie. Two chains 7 with staples guide the upper film 1 in heating station 6, where it is softened by contact heat. In the next cycle, lower and upper films arrive, synchronous and parallel, in a vacuum chamber of a station skin. Here, the soft top film 1 wraps the trays 14 and 5 products emerging from 10 mm at the most of the tray 14.

The room is closed and a vacuum is created there. The upper film 1, which is still heated in the dome, is then welded under vacuum to the tray over the entire surface around the product and without wrinkles. The longitudinal cutting devices 15 and 16 and transverse separate individual packages 8 in cutting them out of the film.
