Abstract

Flavour compsns. for reducing undesirable `secondary smoke' effects (see `

Description

The invention relates to cigarettes containing flavor mixtures, Tobacco cartridges (fine-cut rolls) and (filter) sleeves, these Flavor mixtures on the cigarette paper or the tobacco cartridge wrapping material applied or in the pulp or cellulose pulp incorporated, to reduce by-pass smoke associated undesirable effects.

The expert differentiates between tobacco products to be consumed between mainstream smoke (HSR) and secondary flow smoke (NSR). HSR is by definition, the smoke generated during the train; NSR is the smoke that comes from the train break. Details or further definitions are the DIN / ISO 4387 or the work of Neurath and Ehmke: "Apparatus for the investigation of the Sidestream smoke ", published in" Contributions to tobacco research 2 "(1964) 117-121, to which reference is made here is taken.

Cigarette smoke is naturally cigarette smoke rather than felt pleasant. There are usually exceptions to this only with smoke overlaid or aged by NSR, so-called "cold" smoke. Especially from non-smokers Properties that are perceived as uncomfortable include essentially in a "stale, bad smell" and, especially in sensitive people, in causing unwanted Irritant effects on the eyes and nose by so-called "Interfering factors" are triggered. So there are already different ones Efforts have been made to make this uncomfortable Counteracting properties. Basically you have it tries to influence the unpleasant smell with additives, what so far only with simultaneous change in taste of the HSR was possible and an adverse narrowing of the Represents degrees of freedom in cigarette design. A typical one An example of this is given in US Pat. No. 4,638,816, according to which tobacco added additives both the tobacco taste of the HSR as well change the smell of the NSR towards vanilla; on another example is EP-A 0 294 972, according to the similar Effects using additives incorporated in the cigarette paper should be achieved.

From DE-AS 1 771 622 it is also known on the cigarette paper To apply microcapsules that taste or Contain flavorings. The known microcapsules have one Diameters from 5 to 100 microns and are conveniently on the paper side facing the tobacco. A disadvantage here is both the application form of the microcapsules, which leads to a Reduction in the porosity of the cigarette paper leads as well Size of the capsules that are up to the thickness of common cigarette papers can exceed three times. Size and arrangement of the Capsules make it difficult to process them from the outset such cigarette papers, since those on the cigarette papers applied capsules from high-speed manufacturing machines be destroyed prematurely. Furthermore, from Disadvantage that the cigarette paper provided with microcapsules Manufactured cigarettes when smoking properly as is known, as well as after own attempts to undesired Stains or condensation streaks tend to form. On top of that the flavorings used are always such that a certain smell or taste gives the actual, typical cigarette smell or taste overlaid or changed.

The object of the invention is therefore a cigarette or cigarette tube and similarly a tobacco cartridge or tobacco cartridge wrapper to create with increased sidestream smoke acceptance, without the disadvantages of the known methods listed in Having to buy, i.e. the NSR that is forming Cigarette is said to be even after a long time pleasant tobacco, but as inconspicuous or weak as possible Develop a fragrance note, also be free from interference factors, i.e. not eye or irritate nose, and by no means the taste of the HSR from Change the desired tobacco aroma differently. Doing so at the same time good processability of the tobacco rod wrappings used as well as a usual burning behavior of this cigarette to be guaranteed.

To solve this problem is a cigarette that one with a double-layer cigarette wrapping Contains tobacco rod, the inner layer of said cigarette rod wrapping made of highly porous wrapping paper with a Air permeability of 4,000 to 60,000 CORESTA exists and the outer layer of conventional cigarette paper with an air permeability of 5-100 CORESTA, characterized in that on the inner layer of the double-layer cigarette wrapper any flavor mixture applied in encapsulated form is.

When selecting the flavoring substances, it was taken into account that the Distribution of volatile substances in the main and sidestream smoke other depends on physico-chemical parameters (T. Samejina et. Al. TCRC 1985). It has been found that flavorings with the common feature of boiling points between 80 ° C and 250 ° C, preferably between 130 ° C and 160 ° C, particularly good are suitable to achieve the effect according to the invention. In addition, this effect was also found in flavoring substances that sublimate or are volatile in water.

For the manufacture of tobacco products with reduced, by NSR triggered undesirable effects are e.g. tobacco cartridges (Fine cut rolls) or (filter) sleeves on which the invention Aroma mixtures are applied, which the at the finished cigarettes made from it their advantageous Have an effect. In the case of cigarettes themselves, the aroma mixture, preferably during the manufacturing process of the finished Cigarette applied to the cigarette rod wrapper.

For cigarettes, the one with a single or double layer Contained tobacco rod wrapped cigarette rod will the flavor mixture according to the invention in encapsulated or unencapsulated Mold applied directly to the cigarette rod wrapper. This is done with single-layer cigarette wrappers Application of the flavorings, either in encapsulated or unencapsulated form, directly on the used cigarette paper.

In the case of cigarettes with two-ply cigarette rod wrapping the outer, visible layer of conventional cigarette paper with an air permeability of 3 to 150 CORESTA, preferably 5 to 100 CORESTA and particularly preferably 10 to 60 CORESTA. This outer layer of cigarette paper can, as with single-layer cigarette wrappers, to absorb the flavorings serve in unencapsulated or encapsulated form. The inner, invisible layer, which consists of a highly porous fine-meshed Cellulose fiber network (tobacco cartridge wrapping material, K paper) or highly porous paper fleece with an air permeability in the untreated state, i.e. before a possible Applying flavorings or those containing flavorings Microcapsules, from 4000 to 80,000 CORESTA, preferably 10,000 up to 50,000 CORESTA, serves in a particularly preferred form as the flavoring layer. The porosity of the inner Layer is after application of the capsules by brushing or similar processes to the fine mesh cellulose fiber network or highly porous paper fleece or when incorporating the capsules into the mass of fabric used to make paper, 2,000 up to 30,000 CORESTA.

As a general rule for the porosity ratio to be set of the two layers of paper apply values between 1:10 to 1: 1000 µm the control of the burning behavior of the cigarette alone to guarantee the outer location.

The porous, fine-mesh cellulose fiber network (tea bag-like Paper, highly porous wrapping paper or highly porous Paper fleece) as a carrier of the encapsulated flavors can be in one Working step, i.e. by simultaneously wrapping the tobacco stick with both papers to form the cigarette strand are processed, the porous (tea bag-like) paper or highly porous paper fleece as the inner layer of the tobacco stick wrapped and without gluing with the outer layer (cigarette paper) in the usual way on cigarette rod machines is proceeded. By adapting the two accordingly (hollow cylinder-like) lateral surfaces or circumferences of the two Cigarette wrappings on top of each other also result a wrinkle-free and wrinkle-free (double-layer) cigarette strip, which looks purely from a conventional cigarette string different. Alternatively, processing in two work steps take place. For this, for example highly porous paper fleece in one step the outer paper by lamination or gluing over the entire surface or just connected at certain points. In the second step the strands are formed in the usual way today a cigarette rod machine.

If the cigarette rod is made using the first method Envelope made with the two separate papers can do that Applying the microcapsules to the (tea bag-like) paper or highly porous paper fleece also immediately before production on the Cigarette machine done by placing the capsule slurry on the Paper is sprayed. Suitable devices for this are on the Market available.

The advantages of an aroma mixture according to the invention can be seen of course also with a tobacco cartridge (fine-cut roll) achieve if the aroma mixture in their manufacture on the tobacco cartridge wrapping material (tea bag-like paper or highly porous paper fleece) is applied. In an analogous way can also use an empty (filter) sleeve to make your own Cigarette by the consumer as a carrier of an aroma mixture be used.

In all cases, an aroma mixture according to the invention unencapsulated or in encapsulated form on the corresponding Paper layer applied or in the pulp or cellulose pulp, which can consist of pure tobacco cellulose become.

Results from the use of the aroma mixture according to the invention itself when inserting or applying it onto the cigarette rod wrapper - especially when using the microencapsulated form - for Production of a cigarette, tobacco cartridge according to the invention (Fine cut roll) or (filter) sleeve when glowing the finished product, i.e. the finished cigarette, a compensation the negative sidestream smoke properties, so that the The impression arises that there was little smoking.

The invention is described below using examples.

The above flavor mixture was made by brushing or spraying directly onto cigarette paper 1 (table 1, positions 1-3) applied. The application can be done in a separate Operation as well as directly on the cigarette machine respectively. Although part of the necessary drying process volatile flavors is lost, you get a product that when smoking a bypass smoke assessed as significantly improved supplies.

Disadvantage of this application is that the flavoring substances in the course of Migrate the storage of the finished cigarette into the tobacco rod. This changes the overall effect, the main electricity smoke influenced more than desired and part of the effect of Aromas reduced on the sidestream smoke.

    Beispiel 2Example 2

The aroma mixture according to Example 1 is in a manner known per se converted to an oil-soluble form. To improve solubility it may make sense to use small amounts of benzyl alcohol, Use benzyl benzoate and / or triacetin. The aroma obtained is microencapsulated according to known methods. The microcapsules have a diameter of 8-30 microns, preferably 10 to 20 microns. For hardening the capsules e.g. Tannin ' but in no case form or glutaraldehyde. The The melting point of these capsules is higher than 150 ° C. The aroma capsules by brushing or spraying on the cigarette paper brought or incorporated into the mass of fabric. The one with this Deliver paper (Table 1, Item 4) manufactured cigarettes when smoking a significantly improved sidestream smoke. The disadvantage of this application is that so-called when burning Condensate strips are created, which makes the product optically negative is affected (brown stripes in single-layer cigarette paper). A second disadvantage is one depending on the capsule concentration on paper significantly increased number of moves caused by the melting of the capsules as the glowing zone approaches and the associated reduction in paper porosity becomes.

    Beispiel 3Example 3

  • erreicht. The capsules described above are used in the same way as in Example 2 for a highly porous paper (Table 1, items 5-7). This paper is used to make cigarettes with double-layer paper wrapping. The double layer will
  • a) by directly processing 2 papers on the cigarette machine (table 1, position 1 and position 8),
  • b) by laminating the porous paper onto a normal cigarette paper (table 1, position 1 and position 9) and
  • c) by inserting cartridges, which are coated with the porous paper, into commercially available cigarette tubes
  • reached.

As a tobacco rod, all types of commercially available today Cigarettes and the tobacco mixtures used in them become. The use according to the invention is both based on Strand cigarettes as well as filter cigarettes with any Formats are equally effective.

The cigarettes made with these papers are considered in The sidestream was judged to be much more pleasant than normal cigarettes (Table 2). The mainstream smoke of these cigarettes is said to be very slightly different from a comparative cigarette without added flavor assessed.

The cigarettes do not have different numbers of trains still strips of condensate.

    Beispiel 4Example 4

The microcapsules from Example 2 are in a slurry. The capsules usually settle down. In order to ensure a uniform dosage when coating highly porous paper - as in Example 3 - a medium-viscosity, stable suspension is produced with the aid of a 1-5% Na alginate solution, viscosity 350-850 mPa / s, which has a uniform application of 0 5 to 50 g / m 2 in the example 4 of 30 g / m 2 ensured.

The cigarettes made from this paper have about the same properties as in Example 3.

    Beispiel 5Example 5

The microcapsules from the slurry are commonly used Drying process, usually spray drying, dried and in dry form preferably in the mass of highly porous Paper of a double-layer cigarette wrapper incorporated. The aroma blends incorporated in this way allow one smell-less processing and save the additional work step applying the flavor mixture to the cigarette rod wrapper. Show cigarettes made in this way same properties as those in Example 3.

    Beispiel 6Example 6
