Der bekannte Prallbrecher weist den wesentlichen Nachteil auf, daß das hinter dem Maschineneinlauf angeordnete erste, obere Prallwerk unter Einwirkung nicht zerkleinerbarer Fremdkörper nach außen ausweicht, wodurch der Mahlspalt zwischen dem Rotor und dem zweiten, unteren Prallwerk verkleinert wird; dementsprechend besteht die Gefahr, daß die Fremdkörper hier eingeklemmt werden, wodurch am Rotor und/oder am zweiten, unteren Prallwerk Beschädigungen auftreten können und somit die Funktionsfähigkeit des Prallbrechers nicht mehr gewährleistet ist.

Letzteres trägt zumindest einen Antrieb in Form eines Zylinders, dessen Kolbenstange jeweils an einen Hebel des zweiten, unteren Prallwerks angeschlossen ist; jeder Hebel ist dabei in der Verlängerung des zweiten, unteren Prallwerks auf der diesem entgegengesetzten Seite der zweiten Horizontalachse so angeordnet, daß er durch den in einem Anlenkpunkt angreifenden Zylinder schwenkbar ist. Dementsprechend kann das zweite, untere Prallwerk durch Ein- bzw. Ausfahren des Zylinders zwischen einer ausgeklappten Öffnungsstellung und einer in Richtung auf den Rotor eingeschwenkten Arbeitsstellung bewegt werden.
In dieser Arbeitsstellung wird das zweite, untere Prallwerk auf seiner von der zweiten Horizontalachse abgewandten Seite mittels einer Einstellvorrichtung mit dem Gehäuse des Prallbrechers verriegelt, wobei sich die Stellung des genannten Prallwerks bezüglich des Rotors durch Betätigung von Einstellschrauben manuell verändern läßt.
Unter Einwirkung des zumindest einen Zylinders kann das zweite, untere Prallwerk bezüglich des ersten, oberen Prallwerks zwar in der erwähnten Weise geschwenkt werden. Der Nachteil dieses bekannten Prallbrechers besteht jedoch insbesondere darin, daß das zweite, untere Prallwerk in der verriegelten Arbeitsstellung selbsttätig keine geeignete Ausweichbewegung bezüglich des Rotors ausführen kann.
