Die Erzeugung eines oder mehrerer Quervorbrüche an einem Briefumschlagrchling oder auch an dem Zuschnitt eines Versandbeutels oder dergleichen ist grundsätzlich mit besonderen Schwierigkeiten dann verbunden, wenn der Werkstoff in hohem Maße unelastisch ist. Das Vorbruchmesser will zwar das Ma terial des Zuschnittes in eine sich in einem Gegenwerkzeug bzw. in einer Gegenwalze befindliche oder sich dort bildende Vertiefung hineinziehen, doch ist z.B. Papier dazu wenig geeignet. Der Werkstoff wird aus diesem Grund bei der Vorbruchbildung entweder gereckt oder, wenn er nicht nachgibt, verändert der Zuschnitt seine Lage gegenüber dem Takt der Maschine. Der in der Regel weitgehend starre und unelastische Zuschnitt wird daher auch meist in besonderer, aufwendiger Art und Weise geführt, was sich am fertigen Produkt bemerkbar macht. Bei Briefumschlagzuschnitten werden grundsätzlich zwei Quervorbrüche im Abstand voneinander entsprechend der Höhe des Briefumschlages benötigt, die jeweils schlagartig erzeugt werden. Hierbei auftretende Ungenauigkeiten müssen dann nach dem Abschalten der Maschine durch Korrektureinstellungen an der Messerwalze von Hand behoben werden. Hierzu und zur Behebung von sonstigen Störungen ist es üblich, die Messerwalze schwenkbar im Maschinengestell zu lagern. Aufwendige Brückenkonstruktionen für die abschwenkbare und grundsätzlich angetriebene Messerwalze sind hierbei üblich. Auch das registergenaue Wieder-In-Eingriffbringen des Antriebsrades der Messerwalze in den Antriebsstrang der Maschine nach einer Fehlerbehebung ist immer wieder aufwendig. Hierzu weist der Saugluft-Wählring 17 über einen Teil seines Umfanges ein Innen-Umfangsnut 19 und eine von dort radial nach außen gerichtete Radialbohrung 20 auf, die jeweils den Saugkanälen 15 in der Saugschale 12 zugeordnet ist. Durch Verstellen des einstellbaren Saugluft-Wählringes 17 ist es möglich, jeden der in Fig. 3 dargestellten Saugkanäle 15 an den in dem Unterdruck-Hauptkanal 16 herrschenden Unterdruck anzuschließen, wobei gemäß Ausführungsbeispiel noch eine Radialbohrung 21 von dem Unterdruck-Hauptkanal 16 zu der Innen-Umfangsnut 19 führt.   7. Device in accordance with Claim 1, characterized by
    the vacuum shell (12) and the creasing blades (33, 34) being located on carrier rings (30, 36 to 39, and 50, 51).
  8. Device in accordance with Claim 1, characterized by
    the circumferential surface of the backing roll (7) being formed by an elastic jacket.
