Description

The present invention relates to a container comprising a peripheral rim on which a cover is fixed by heat-sealing, said cover comprising a lower heat-sealable layer sealed against the peripheral rim and a metal upper layer adhering to the heat-sealable layer, the latter being peelable from the rim. peripheral by exerting manual traction on a tongue fitted to said cover.

This type of container is used in particular to contain drinks or other food or medical products. The upper layer must be rigid enough to allow the cover to be removed by peeling and without tearing and perfectly waterproof. It is generally metallic.

In general, the tongue is part of the cover and it is arranged outside the sealing bead. It must have a sufficient surface to allow the user to start the coat without too much difficulty.

When the containers are made by thermoforming a plastic sheet, filled and sealed on the same packaging line, the lids and the containers are separated together by cutting using cutting tools installed on the same chain. In this case, the outline of the cover and the outline of the return of the container are superimposed. The tongue is in this case disposed above a rim portion which can be separated from the rim itself by a pre-cut line of weakness. This rim portion should separate from the container when pulling on the tab. In the absence of a line of weakness, the user must move the tab away from this edge portion before peeling.

However, in these two cases, the tongue has a relatively small surface compared to the total surface of the cover, and peeling can be difficult or even impossible, in particular if the cover adheres strongly to the rim by heat sealing.

The object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks, by proposing a large tongue.

The invention achieves its object by the fact that the tongue consists of a metal sheet capable of completely covering the metal layer of the cover, said metal sheet being bonded to the metal layer of the cover, at a level lateral segment, by a layer of a material adhering to the metallic layer and to the metallic foil, and the adhering material covers the entire underside of the metallic foil, a varnish not adhering to the metallic layer and not reactivable when hot being applied against the underside of the layer of material adhering in the area outside the lateral segment. This varnish is for example a cellulosic varnish.

The adherent material is chosen from materials having a strong adhesion. It can in particular be an Ethylene Acryclic Acid copolymer.

Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will emerge on reading the following description given by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 shows in section a container with a rim sealed with a cover provided with a tab according to the invention,
  • FIG. 2 shows on a large scale the various layers of the cover and of the tongue, the latter being separated from the cover for the sake of clarity,
  • Figures 3 and 4 show the different steps to perform to open the container.

The container 1 shown in the drawings is in the form of a frustoconical cup containing a liquid 4. This cup can be produced by thermoforming a strip of polypropylene, coated cardboard or PVC.

The cover 3 essentially comprises two layers: an upper layer 5 of aluminum and a lower heat-sealable layer 6 adhering to the aluminum layer 5 and bonded to the material of the peripheral rim 2 according to a weld bead 7.

To allow the opening of the container 1, a tongue 10 is disposed above the cover 3, this tongue consists of an aluminum sheet 11 which completely covers the aluminum layer 5 and whose outline corresponds strictly to the lid outline 2.

The aluminum sheet 11 has on its underside a layer 12 of a material strongly adhering to aluminum, an Ethylene Acrylic Acid copolymer for example. Under the underside of the layer 12, a layer of varnish 13 is applied which is not adherent to aluminum and cannot be reactivated when hot. The varnish is applied to most of the surface of the layer 13 with the exception of a segment 14 delimited by a cord 15 and a portion 16 of the contour layer 12 device, the cord 15 connecting the ends of this portion 16.

At the level of segment 14, the layer 12 of adhering material adheres to the aluminum layer 5. Outside of segment 14, the cover 2 and the tongue 10 are joined but are not linked to each other due to the layer of varnish 13.

To open the container 1, proceed as follows: the tongue 10 is raised vertically in the direction indicated by the arrow 20, then a force 21 is directed on the tongue 10, using a hand upward while holding container 1 with the other hand.

The surface of the segment 14 and the choice of the material adhering to the layer 12 are calculated in such a way that the force 21 causes the opening of the container 1 by peeling off the cover 3 and does not cause the pulling of the tongue 10 of cover 3.

The arrangement of the tongue 10 described above allows easy gripping of the latter and ease of opening of the container 1.

The cover 3 and the tongue 10 described above can advantageously be drawn from the same strip of composite material, comprising the five superposed layers 6, 5, 13, 12, 11 constituting the cover 3 and the tongue 10 , during the cutting phase of the containers 1 filled and closed on the container production and packaging line.

The aluminum layers 5 and 11 can obviously be replaced by other materials, in particular polyester or paper depending on the use.

The aluminum layers 5 and 11 preferably have a thickness of between 12 and 60 micrometers. The density of layer 12 of Ethylene Acrylic Acid copolymer is twenty grams per square meter.
