Fig. 1 vermittelt auf einfache Weise die Phase eines Schneidvorganges und durch die Pfeile F die Verarbeitungsrichtung. Im vorliegenden Fall wird das "rohe" Buch 1, gebildet aus Buchblock 2 und einem mit diesem rückenseitig verbundenen, Falzklappen 3 aufweisenden Umschlag 4, einer Schneidvorrichtung (nur teilweise ersichtlich) an einer Schneidstation 5 zugeführt.
Der Buchblock 2 ist klebegebunden, faden- oder drahtgeheftet und an seinem Rücken 6 ist der an der Vorder- und der Rückseite des Buches 1 eine Umschlagklappe 7 aufweisende Umschlag 4 entsprechend befestigt.
Während kopf- und fussseitig der endgültige Beschnitt des rohen Buches schon vorgenommen ist, übersteht die Stirnseite 8 des Buchlockes 2 die durch den gefalteten Umschlag 4 gebildeten Falzkanten 9 der Umschlagklappen 7.
Das Buch 1 liegt gebunden auf einer nicht ersichtlichen Förderbahn einer Führungsanordnung, die einer ebenen Schneidauflage 10 der Schneidvorrichtung vorgeschaltet ist.
Die Fig. 1 zeigt anschliessend an den Förderabschnitt des zugeführten Buches 1 letzteres in der Bereitschaftsstellung zum Schneiden, in der die Umschlagklappen 7 beispielsweise durch eine Saug- oder Greifvorrichtung (gestrichelt dargestellt) vom Buchblock 2 in eine gegenüber der stirnseitigen Kante zurückversetzte Lage abgehoben sind.
Sowohl zum Transport als auch zum Öffnen der Umschlagklappen 4 wie auch zum Beschneiden der stirnseitigen Kante -durch ein gestrichelt dargestelltes Messer- bleibt das Buch 1 im beschriebenen Ausführungsbeispiel jeweils in einer an einer umlaufenden Fördervorrichtung 11 (strichpunktiert dargestellt) befestigten Einspannvorrichtung 12 eingespannt, wenigstens solange bis der Schneidvorgang und ein allfälliges Zurückschwenken der Umschlagklappen 7 resp. ein Einschwenken der zuvor ausgeschwenkten Falzklappen 3 erfolgt ist.
Dieser Zustand ist in Fig. 1 nach der Schneidstation 5 festgehalten.
In der Schneidstation 5 liegt das Buch 1 mit der Unterseite auf der Schneidauflage 10 auf - gleitend oder auf einer mit der Fördervorrichtung 11 verbundenen Schneidauflage - , wobei die der Unterseite des Buchblockes 2 zugeordnete Umschlagklappe 7 nach unten hängend und die der Oberseite des Buchblockes 2 zugeordnete Umschlagklappe 7 hochgeschwenkt geführt sind. In dieser Situation kann die Stirnseite des Buchblockes 2 sowohl während dem Transport als auch bei einem kurzen Stillstand, bei dem der Buchblock 2 mit einer Bezugskante nach einem Anschlag ausgerichtet ist, beschnitten werden.
Zu diesem Zweck ist eine der Schneidauflage 10 gegenüberliegend zugeordnete Pressplatte 13 einer Aufspannvorrichtung vorgesehen, die den Buchblock 2 zum Schneiden gemeinsam festhalten.
