Abstract

The window has two glass panels joined together with spacers and seals between their inner surfaces. One inner element (17) is attached to the panels by butyl joints (19), for example, separated from an inner spacer frame member (15) by a polysulphide elastomer strip (18). The inner spacer frame member (15) has elastomer seals (21) between it and the glass panels, and is attached to an outer surrounding frame (14) by fixing screws (16). The outer glass panel (20) of the window can be larger than the inner one, with its edge overlapping part of the surrounding frame.

Description

The invention relates to a glazed panel comprising a frame in which is installed insulating glazing comprising two or more sheets of transparent materials. The panels of the previous type are intended to constitute fixed leaves or leaves window mobiles. The frames are made of various materials: wood, metal such as aluminum, or plastics. The glazing is most often made of silica-calcium glass.

Most often, traditionally, the glass panels have a frame which has an L-shaped section, the glazing, such as for example an insulating glazing coming from settle inside the L by means of shims at its periphery and products sealing on its faces. On the side of the glazing opposite the corner of the L, the fixing is done at using a rod called a glazing bead. The glass panels of the previous type thus have frames in which the glazing is inserted. It is therefore necessary that the thickness of the frame finished with its glazing bead is significantly greater than the thickness of the glazing.

When the glazing is a simple glass, 2 or 3 millimeters, the thickness of the frame remains reasonable and corresponds to the mechanical necessities so that the glazing can withstand various stresses such as wind, or shocks related to the opening and closing an opening. It is different when the glazing is insulating glazing and specially of the type having an air gap of 12 mm or more since then the glazing reaches and exceeds thicknesses of the order of 20 mm, which requires a very substantial increase in the thickness of the glass panel frames.

We have seen recently appear insulating glazing with thermal insulation improved, one of the walls of the insulating glazing is internally covered with a layer thin with low emissivity and the spacer space, increased to 15 mm, is filled with argon. Through compared to certain first generation insulating glazing 4 (6) 4, here too there is a significant increase in thickness.

The increase in the thickness of the frames required by the increase proportional to the thickness of the glazing has led to an increase in costs. Through elsewhere, concerns about the environment lead to limiting the quantities of materials used to perform a given function. It would be very important - especially with wood - to be able to return to chassis thicknesses as small as possible. In indeed, the other required functions of the window and that the sash helps to fulfill such that wind resistance, mechanical resistance, tightness could be with thicknesses of chassis much lower than those required by the increased thickness of the glazing.

We know techniques that allow to combine mechanically and structurally glazing and profiles which constitute the framework in which it must be inserted. Document US-4,134,238 thus presents a glazing unit fitted with jumpers in general metallic, glued at its periphery on the four sides of the glazing in which it is possible to screw different elements and in particular profiles, especially in aluminum, which form the frame of a window or window sash. This technique which is particularly well suited to metal joinery presents however some drawbacks. The technique of bonding the riders to the periphery of the glazing is not very simple. It is an operation which requires a resumption of the glazing insulation after its manufacture and which is costly in labor. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide the holes through which will pass screws which come to fix the profiles on the glazing edges with great precision so that there is no lateral stresses which are exerted on the jumpers when one proceeds to the screwing. Through elsewhere, the previous technique requires hiding the part of the jumpers that is on the external surface of the glazing. On the other hand, traditionally, in a window, opening and the frame are adjusted to each other and the manufacturing tolerances are made up thanks to the clearance between the glazing and its frame, wedges ensuring the immobilization of one in the other. With the method proposed in US 4,134,238 it is between the frame and opening it that it was a question of foreseeing this adjustment what posed delicate problems with chassis manufacturer.

Document EP-A-0 412 669 proposes a technique which makes it possible to catch up with clearances between glazing of given dimensions and a frame constituting a frame of window with interior dimensions slightly larger than those of the glazing. In this document, we offer adjustable shims made up of two section parts triangular which together form a flat wedge with parallel faces but which allow, thanks to the displacement of one part relative to the other, to vary the thickness of the shim.

In EP-A-0 412 669, the design of the shims adjustable in thickness does not does not allow lateral fixing of the glazing in the frame in the absence any external support extending beyond the external surfaces of the glazing. It is necessary according to the technique of EP-A-0 412 669, to provide systems for lateral support which increases the overall thickness of the glazing-profiles assembly of the frame.

Finally, document EP 0 228 641 proposes double glazing fixed to a frame by means of profiled elements which have an inserted central part and fixed between the two panes of glazing and a seat part associated with the frame. The seat part constitutes a groove in which is housed an attached part which is screwed to part of the frame.

Although the profiled elements of this document allow to decrease substantially the thickness of the chassis, the fixing of these to the frame is not however not simple because requiring an additional room and screws, means, which moreover, are not of rapid implementation and can be disengage over time resulting in unreliable attachment.

The technical problem which the invention sets itself the task of solving is to find a system for fixing a glazing in a bay that allows significantly reduce the thickness of the chassis, i.e. compatible with traditional mounting techniques but while being easy and quick to set up in action.

On the other hand, the invention must make it possible to obtain all the required glass panel characteristics, such as mechanical strength or the sealing of the panel. To achieve this goal, the invention provides a panel glazed with insulating glazing and frame elements fixed along the sides of the glazing so as to limit their relative displacements perpendicular to the glazing, the glazing and the frame elements being associated mechanically by a mechanical connecting piece which comprises a fixing the part to the glazing fitting at least locally between the two insulating glass panes, characterized in that the mechanical connecting part comprises a deformable element intended to cooperate by snap-fastening with a matching home element frame elements for, after setting place the glazing in the frame elements, block it perpendicular to its area.

Preferably after its deformation and its positioning in the position of glass blocking, the deformable element can no longer leave this position. This locking system for intermediate mechanical parts, glued or at least linked to the glazing, allows the glazing to be fixed in its plane in a very simple. According to a first variant, the frame has a frame fitted with at least a groove and then, the deformable element is a tab which is inserted in the groove. The other variant, in which the frame has a fitted frame at least one rib and where the deformable element is a tab which, in position blocking, encloses said rib works exactly according to the same principle. Advantageously, the intermediate mechanical part has a dimension adjustable in the direction of the glazing plane. To make this adjustment, we suggest that the mechanical part comprises two prismatic parts comprising each an inclined plane in contact with that of the other party, and that the moving from one inclined plane to the other changes the dimension of the mechanical part in the plane of the glazing. To avoid any adjustment, the invention provides that the inclined planes have steps whose shape is such that the displacement of a plane in contact with the other authorizes only the increase the dimension of the mechanical part in the plane of the glazing.

We see that thus the invention perfectly solves the technical problem posed.

Figure 1 shows a traditional wooden window frame in which double glazing is installed. We see in 1 the support frame which has an L-shaped section, in 2 the insulating glazing with its panes 3. The glazing is placed on the horizontal part of the L, generally by means of shims not shown. It is held laterally on the one hand by the vertical part of the L and on the other hand, by a glazing bead 7 rigidly fixed to the horizontal part of the L. The insulating glazing is produced using two elements, on the one hand a rigid intermediate frame, in particular a metallic 5 filled with desiccant, the function of which is to keep the two panes apart and, on the other hand, an adhesive 6 which ensures both the mechanical strength and the tightness with liquid water.

To seal between the inside and outside of the room, we see in 4 a putty which prevents the penetration of water. In general, the metal frame 5 is separated from the internal surfaces of the windows by the interposition of a butyl seal which also participates, with the elastomer seal 6, for sealing the insulating glazing.

Figure 2 shows the section of a variant of a glazed panel according to the invention. It is seen this time that the metallic interlayer of the insulating glazing has been transferred towards the interior of the glazing. The offset is of the order of a few millimeters, generally between 2 and 6 mm. In the figure, the frame element 8 according to the invention comprises at 9 an integrated strip which penetrates between the two panes of the insulating glazing. It constitutes with the frame element 8 a structurally linked whole. The primary function of this strip 9 is to provide the lateral mechanical connection between the insulating glazing and the frame element 8. To exercise this function, the strip 9 need not be continuous, it can be interrupted by certain places. Between the lateral faces of the strip 9 and the internal surfaces of the panes 3, one or two sealing systems are provided, when the strip is continuous, either with elastomer systems which are pressed between the two surfaces, or with sealing systems. putty which remain plastic, of the butyl type, and which adhere to surfaces. When the strip 9 is discontinuous, an independent sealing system is provided, it is for example a strip similar to the strip 7 of Figure 1 but which, unlike the latter, plays no role lateral support of insulating glass. It is simply a matter of keeping the sealant 4 in place and its thickness is reduced to a minimum.

In the lower part of the frame element 8 which is shown here straight, are usually the systems which make it possible to seal the connection between the element of frame 8 and the frame if it is a glass panel opening or between the glass panel and the structure that frames it when it is a fixed element. Those skilled in the art know these systems and knows how to realize them.

With the device shown in Figure 2 we must build the frame around the glazing, that is to say that in the case of a rectangular glazing, we will equip the four sides of the glazing with frame elements similar to the element 8, these frame elements have been prepared at their ends with corner joining systems, for example of the tenon and mortise type, in the case of wood, so that they can be assembled in the corners after having been laid at the periphery of the glazing.

On the other hand, the system shown in FIG. 3 is much closer to the systems for mounting traditional insulating glazing. Here, the frame element is in two parts: on the one hand, an actual frame element 11, and on the other hand a separate rod 12. It is possible to assemble elements similar to the element 11 which will constitute a frame, similar to traditional frames, in the carpentry workshop, and it is only at the time of the installation of the glazing in this frame that the strips 12 will be introduced then finally fixed to the frame elements 11 to using fasteners such as screws 13.

Cette technique de montage est ainsi peu différente de la technique habituelle schématisée figure 1.In the case of a rectangular glazing, when the four rods have been introduced into the housings provided at the periphery of the glazing, it is possible to introduce the whole of the glazing equipped with its four rods inside the frame formed by the elements of frame 11 assembled in the corners. This mounting technique is thus little different from the usual technique shown schematically in Figure 1 .

Within the framework of the invention, it is possible to use as materials for making the frame element and the rods, materials usually used to make window frames, such as wood, plastic, metal and especially aluminum or any other material which can fulfill this function.

In a variant of the invention not shown, the frame element and its rod, preferably made in one piece, are made of a material capable of constituting the intermediate frame 5 of FIG . 2 . In this case, it is the rod itself introduced at the periphery of the double glazing which constitutes the intermediate frame of the insulating glazing so that in this case the seals of the insulating glazing, that is to say those between the panes and the intermediate frame on the one hand and the sealing of the window sash between the glazing and its frame on the other, will be carried out in a single operation.

The description which we have just proceeded has been made with insulating glazing consisting of two panes, double glazing. The invention is not limited to two panes but it also relates to any multiple glazing. It is enough to be under this first variant of the invention that a strip is inserted between at least two panes multiple insulating glass.

FIG. 4 shows a variant of the system of the invention. We see in 14 a frame element of a particular shape which will be discussed later, in 15, the strip located between the two glasses of the insulating glazing and in 16 the fixing which connects them to each other. The insulating glazing consists of two panes associated with the aid of an intermediate frame 17 which is connected to the panes by means of a butyl seal 19 while at 18 we see an elastomer such as for example a polysulphide which constitutes the mechanical seal connecting the insulating glass panes and the intermediate frame. We also see at 21 elastomer seals which seal between the frame element and the glazing. The glazing in Figure 4 , unlike the previous glazing, is asymmetrical, that is to say that one of the glasses is larger than the other and thus fits into the part provided on the frame element, asymmetrical here.

In FIG. 4 , the window 20 does not extend to the periphery of the frame element 14. In reality, it is also possible within the scope of the invention to have a window 20 which completely covers the frame 14.

The advantage of a layout where the exterior glass partially covers or totally the frame is that it provides complete protection of the frame of the glass wall. Protection is not only guaranteed, but also watertightness, rain in particular is improved when the glazing 20 of larger dimension is located on the outside of the glass wall. It is also possible to achieve thanks to this arrangement a very particular aesthetic effect. It is even possible to imagine a window 20 which has dimensions greater than those of frame 14 so as to come cover not only the opening part of a window but also its window frame (case leaf opening to the outside).

In all the systems of the invention which have just been described, it is often preferred that the panes be fitted at their periphery with a decorative frame, preferably located on the inside of the glass and made of enamel, in particular baked enamel hot which hides the elements of the insulating glazing and the opening and the frame element which are located inside the insulating glazing. This framework can be colored and in turn constitutes a decorative element.

The variant of the invention which has just been described allows the production of windows extremely light in which the frame of the opening leaf has only the minimum dimensions necessary, thus avoiding very thick frames which are usually essential, especially when using insulating glass with an interior air space of 12 mm or more.

Figures 5 to 8 relate to a second variant of the invention in which a traditional insulating glazing unit is placed in the context of a window sash.

In Figure 5 , we see at 31 an intermediate mechanical part according to the invention. This is a part adapted on the one hand to double insulating glazing and on the other hand to a frame having a longitudinal groove such as for example a wooden window frame.

The connecting piece 31 is intended to be glued to the double glazing. This one is from glued type, in particular with a metallic interlayer frame, but insulating glazing with plastic interlayer of the butyl type are perfectly compatible with the invention. We will see later that the invention even provides an additional advantage in the case of such glazing.

The connecting piece 31 is made of rigid plastic, in particular material suitable for injection, such as polyamide.

The outer upper part 32, on either side of the part 31 serves as a support for the glass plates. The central rib 33 and its base 34 are both embedded in the glue of the insulating glazing. Indeed, the connection between the part 31 and the insulating glazing is preferably made at the time of manufacture of the latter, just after the deposition of the external adhesive (generally polysulfide or, exceptionally, silicone). In this way, it is the glue of the insulating glazing itself which ensures the fixing by gluing of the mechanical part. Connection pieces such as those of FIG. 5 are placed from place to place on the four sides of the insulating glazing. The width of the connecting pieces 31 in the plane of the glazing is such that it allows the glazing to be connected without constraint to the four sides of the frame.

The central rib 33 is equipped with longitudinal teeth which increase the surface bonding and improve the attachment of the part to the glazing.

The rib 33 and its base 34 constitutes a projecting member which, in addition to facilitating the adhesion between glazing and connecting piece plays an important role in transmitting lateral forces between the glazing and the frame. Once the glazing with its connecting parts 31 posed in the bay and the bay in the facade of the building, it is not only the collage of the member projects into the glazing, but these are also the edges of the base 34 neighboring the glass plates which will transmit forces such as wind, glazing to the chassis. The locations of the connecting pieces 31 at the periphery of the glazing are chosen by the specialist in the installation of insulating glass according to his knowledge resistance of materials and regulations. On the other hand, in the event that the insulating glass does not have a metal interlayer but simply a cord of butyl, the connecting pieces 31 allow, thanks to their projection 40 on which the panes, to guarantee the uniformity and stability of the glazing thickness.

Unlike what was known, and what is practiced with the attached rods 12 of Figure 3 which are screwed into the frame, the connecting pieces of the invention are not fixed in the bay by screwing but they are immobilized laterally thanks to deformable elements such as lugs or cleats which snap either in hollow housings or on reliefs.

In FIG. 5, cleats 35 are provided at the ends of the connecting piece 31. Preferably, these cleats 35 are made of the same material as the piece 31 and they are connected to it by a tongue 36 which allows the cleat to be made a rotation in the direction of arrow 37 but which, once the cleat has taken a position perpendicular to the base of the part 31, ensures, without breaking or deforming, a complete transmission of the lateral forces.

In its position perpendicular to the base of the part 31, the cleat 35 penetrates and fits in a groove provided in the rebate of the chassis.

La patte 35 est logée dans la rainure 38.In Figure 6 , we see an example of implementation of the glazing fixing system of the invention. The implementation is here more traditional than in the first variant of the invention, the object of Figures 2 to 4 , in fact, the frame 43 and the outer part of the opening 42 are completely similar to what is shown schematically figure 1 . But here, the glazing 39 rests on the connecting piece 31 whose projection 40 penetrates between the two glass plates and adheres thereto. The tab 35 is housed in the groove 38.

In Figure 5 we see two hooks 41 whose function is to block the cleat 35 once it is housed in the groove 38. This blocking of the deformable elements such as the cleats 35 ensures that as soon as the glazing is in position in its chassis, it will not move. It also guarantees the inviolability of the closing of the room by the glazing. Even if a thief managed to gain access to the connecting pieces 31, the opening of all the hooks such as 11, if it is theoretically possible, would take a long time. On the other hand, for the person skilled in the art of the window who knows the system of the invention and who has time, the exchange of the glazing is easy, it suffices, as can be seen in FIG. 6 , after removing the cover from hubcap protection 44, to cut from the interior of the room all the deformable elements 35 in order to be able to extract the glazing 39 from the frame. Such an operation is not feasible from the outside.

Still in FIG. 6 , it can be seen that seen from the outside, the frame with its opening 42 and its frame 43, offers a traditional appearance. The glazing fixing system of the invention simply made it possible to eliminate the interior glazing bead. As there is no longer any need to support the glazing laterally, it has been possible to appreciably thin the frame element, in this case the bottom cross member 42 and to replace the glazing bead with an embellisher 44 whose only technical function is to ensure the glazing-frame tightness thanks to the butyl seal 45. The thinning of the elements of the frame of the opening is the same on the uprights and on the upper cross member as on the lower cross member and the implementation techniques are also the same.

In Figure 6 we have deleted a glazing bead on the inside but a new complete study of the window will also make it possible to thin the profile on the other side, outside. This is all the easier since outside, the sealing problems are simpler in the case of draining rebates as here. The fact of having chosen a width of the connecting piece 1 which is at most equal to the thickness of the glazing makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the frame up to this width if this is possible taking into account the others requirements related to sealing, mechanical strength of the opening in the open position, aesthetics, etc.

Figure 7 and Figure 8 each show a part of a connecting piece whose dimension in the plane of the glazing is adjustable. Each part has the shape of a triangular section prism and the displacement of the two ramps inclined with respect to each other allows the thickness to be adjusted. The inclined ramps also have steps with one inclined side and the other straight. The steps are inclined so that it is easy to slide one ramp over the other when you want to increase the thickness of the connecting piece. Movement in the other direction would only be possible after moving the ramps apart.

In Figure 7 we see the glazing 39 with its glass plates 48, 49 which rest on the upper parts 32 of the half 50 of the connecting piece which is glued to the glazing. This half 50 has guides 51. Their function is temporary, it only plays when the half 50 is glued to the glazing, they make it possible to hold the part in place while waiting for the glue to set, in fact, they exert a certain pressure on the faces of the glazing which centers the part and keeps it stationary for the necessary time.

In Figure 8 the other half 52 is shown with its steps 47 in relief (the steps 46 of the half 51 are, them, hollow, and thus, any lateral movement of one half relative to the other is impossible ). The half 52 of course has deformable members here also in the form of lugs 35 attached by a tongue 36 to the body of the half 52.

The installation of the connecting part in two parts 50, 52 can be done as follows: the glazing being equipped with the desired number of halves 50, for example two per side for a glazing of 50 x 80 cm, is presented horizontally above the frame 42 ( Figure 6 ) placed on a table, with the rebate below. Temporary shims placed under the glazing make it possible to locate it symmetrically with respect to the groove 38. The glazing 39 is centered in the opening with consequently all the halves 50 of connecting piece at the same distance from the rebate. The halves 52 are then put in place without tightening them and the tabs 35 at their ends are inserted into the grooves 38. Finally, the tightening of the connecting pieces is finished and the leaf straightened.

The installation technique which has just been described and which is adapted to the leaves of the so-called “French-style” windows of medium size, in which the glazing is installed in the frame at the place of manufacture of the latter, is a possibility among others. For large glazing, installation is done, vertical glazing.

FIG. 9 shows a variant in which the frame does not have a groove but on the contrary, raised ribs on which the mechanical connecting parts rest.

We see in the figure at 53 a part of the aluminum frame with its ribs 54, 55. The connecting piece 56 comprises a cleat 57 of suitable shape and which therefore comprises two notches 58, 59 intended to enclose the ribs 54, 55. The locking system is identical to that of FIGS. 5 and 8, but any equivalent system is suitable.

The system for fixing a glazing in a bay that has just been described in this second variant of the invention, in addition to being particularly simple to implement work, has the advantage of being adjustable. Its use allows, like that of the first variant, to reduce the thickness of the frames to what is strictly mechanically necessary, all questions related to fixing the glazing in its frame being solved by the system of the invention.
