Description

The invention relates to a multipole waterproof connector made of plastic according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such a connector is on the market. The disadvantage is that for the proper seating of the sealing ring, an additional, separate circlip must be used so that the sealing ring assumes and maintains its prescribed position. Another disadvantage is that the locking of the contact elements in the contact element housing chambers takes place with a cross locking slide which penetrates the sealing ring and can accordingly cause leaks. In addition, a cross locking slide leaves only a limited spatial arrangement of the contact element housing chambers, which it has to enforce, e.g. in a row lying in the housing, so that a free distribution of the contact points in the connector is narrowly limited.

-stiften, die in einer verrasteten Vormontagestellung das Einsetzen der Kontaktelemente in die Kontaktelement-Gehäusekammern ermöglichen und durch Drücken der Verriegelungseinrichtung in eine verrastete Endmontagestellung von schrägen Führungsflächen nach innen - eine Verriegelungskante des Kontaktelements formschlüssig hintergreifend - gedrängt und in dieser Verriegelungsstellung gehalten werden (DE-PS 32 47 022).Locking devices for connectors with locking fingers or pins protruding in the plug-in direction into the contact element housing chambers are known, which allow the contact elements to be inserted into the contact element housing chambers in a latched pre-assembly position and by pressing the locking device into a latched final assembly position of inclined guide surfaces toward the inside - a locking edge of the contact element positively engaging behind - pushed and held in this locking position (DE-PS 32 47 022).

Bekannt sind auch Steckverbinder bestehend aus zwei Gehäuseteilen, wobei die Gehäuseteile ineinanderfügbar ausgebildet sind und beim Zusammenfügen die Verriegelung eines Rastfingers erfolgt (DE-GM 77 39 743).Connectors consisting of two housing parts are also known, the housing parts being designed such that they can be fitted into one another and when locking a locking finger is locked (DE-GM 77 39 743).

The object of the invention is to provide a connector of the type described in the introduction, in which a firm, proper fit of the sealing ring can be ensured without an additional locking ring and in which the sealing ring remains unaffected by the locking device.

The connector according to the invention essentially consists of a trough-shaped housing 1 with a circumferential outer wall 26 and a bottom wall 27, which form an interior 28. On the bottom wall 27 there are cylindrical and single-line sealing chambers distributed rearwards and upright and in a rectangular shape 30 arranged, which are each above a chamber hole 31 provided in the bottom wall 27.

A circumferential ring wall 35 standing on the bottom wall 27 is provided around all of the holes 31. The height of the ring wall 35 is the same as or lower than the wall 26. In the space 28 between the outer wall 26 and the ring wall 35, a circumferential ring web projection 39 is expediently provided on the bottom wall 27, the task of which is explained below.

On the outside and in the intermediate space 28, latching and locking elements 40 can be arranged on the connector housing 1, which enable latching and optionally locking with a mating connector (not shown).

The ring wall 35 has two longitudinal side walls 36 and two end walls 38, the walls 36, 38 merging into one another with round arches.

In each longitudinal side wall 36 of the ring wall 35, a square latching elongated hole 41 is made in the longitudinal center, which begins in the area of the long edge facing the insertion side and ends at a distance above the bottom wall 27.

In the intermediate space 28 there is a sealing ring 45 which surrounds the ring wall 35 with a form fit, possibly also with a slight press fit, and is seated on the ring web projection 39.

The bottom wall 27 is penetrated by approximately cylindrical contact element housing chambers 12, 13, 14, 15, the inner contour of which is adapted in a manner known per se to the spatial shape of the respective contact element to be accommodated. The housing chambers 12 to 15 can be arranged individually or grouped together. The cylinders of the housing chambers project through the interior 28 and end at the same height with the outer wall 26 in the mating face plane. They each point on the plug side End of a push-through opening for a mating contact pin of a mating connector (not shown).

The chambers 12 to 15 can, as provided in the exemplary embodiment, be formed in one piece with the respectively associated sealing chamber 30 and are surrounded by the ring wall 35, wherein the ring wall 35 can be part of the wall of the cylinders of the housing chambers 12 to 15.

Die Rastkante 5 befindet sich über dem Rastloch 41.A cross-shaped gap recess 2 is formed between the chambers 12 to 15, viewed in plan view, which separates the chambers 12 to 15 and consists of a longitudinal gap recess 3 and a transverse gap recess 4. The longitudinal gap recess 3 slits the ring wall 35 on both sides with a slot base at the level of the upper edge of the sealing ring 45, so that the ring wall 35 in the area of the sealing ring seat or below the slot base remains all the way to the bottom wall 27. The transverse gap recess 4 does not slit the annular wall 35 on both sides as deeply as the longitudinal gap recess 3, a locking edge 5 being formed from the bottom of the slot just below the mating face plane, the purpose of which is explained below. The locking edge 5 is located above the locking hole 41.

The longitudinal gap recess 3 extends to the bottom wall 27. The transverse gap recess 4 passes through the bottom wall 27 and ends on a gap recess bottom 6.

The chambers 12 to 15 and the associated sealing chambers 30 have a longitudinal slot 7 towards the transverse gap recess 4, each of which extends as far as the gap recess bottom 6. In addition to each longitudinal slot 7, a locking pin 8 is formed on the gap recess bottom 6, standing upright and running parallel to the longitudinal slot 7 and extending into the gap recess 4 (FIG. 2, left side), which is approximately half as long as the gap recess depth.

A slot 10, which extends from the latching edge 5 and extends to the level of the upper edge of the sealing ring 45, is introduced into the ring wall 35 to the side of each latching elongated hole 41. The slots 10 lie diagonally opposite one another in the transverse gap recess 4; the purpose of the slots 10 is explained below.

In the pre-shaped or final assembly position, a cross-shaped locking slide 9 (FIGS. 7, 8) is stored in the cross-shaped gap recess 2. The locking slide 9 made of plastic consists essentially of a cuboid locking block 11, corresponding to the dimensions of the transverse gap recess, with two longitudinal side walls 16, two end walls 17 and a bottom wall 18.

A keel-shaped wall 19 extending over the length of the bottom wall 18 is integrally formed perpendicular to the bottom wall 18. In the two longitudinal end regions of the wall 19, locking webs 20 projecting from the wall transversely to their longitudinal extent are formed with locking bevels 21, the locking bevels 21 ending in the lower edge of the wall 19. The function of the locking bevels 21 is explained below.

In the longitudinal center of each side wall 16 there is an abutment wing 22 which is perpendicular to the wall and has a straight abutment edge 23 on the bottom wall side. The edge opposite the abutment edge 23 can, as shown, be chamfered in order to save material, so that the wing 22 is triangular. For the same reason of saving material, the locking block 11 of the locking slide 9 is largely hollow.

Furthermore, an abutment web 24, which extends parallel to the respective side wall 16 and protrudes from the end wall, is formed on the diagonally opposite corner end edges of the base body or locking block 11, the purpose thereof is also explained below.

Finally, the locking slide 9 has on each end wall 17 in the direction of the bottom wall spaced locking projections 25, 29. The locking projections 25, 29 are not only spaced apart, but also laterally offset from one another. The locking slide 9 fits into the cross-shaped gap recess 2, the base body 11 with the wall 19 and the locking webs 20 in the transverse gap recess 4 and the wings 22 in the longitudinal gap recess 3 and the wing tips and the abutment webs 24 - penetrating the respective slot 10 - protrude into the interior 28. The locking projections 25, 29 cooperate with the locking elongated holes 41 in a manner known per se, in that, in a preassembly position of the locking slide 9, the locking projection 25 rests on the locking edge 5 and engages under the locking projection 29 under the web of the locking elongated hole 41 forming the locking edge 5 (FIG 3, left side). In this locked pre-assembly position, the upper edge 9a of the locking slide 9 is aligned with the mating face level of the connector, so that there is no protrusion. This is of particular advantage because the position of the locking slide 9 cannot be changed unintentionally.

In the preassembly position, a contact element (not shown) can be pushed into a contact element chamber 12 to 15 from the side of the sealing chamber 30. The contact elements are crimped onto a conductor wire, the conductor wire carrying a single-line seal which lies against the conductor wire and against the chamber wall of the sealing chamber.

Following the insertion of contact elements, the locking slide 9 is pressed deeper into the gap recess 2 with a corresponding tool until the second latching position or the final assembly position is reached. The bevels 21 pivot the locking pins 8 into the respective contact element chamber 12 to 15 in which their free end has a locking edge engages behind the inserted contact element. In the final assembly position, the wings 22 and the webs 24 overlap the upper edge of the sealing ring 45 in a form-fitting manner or at a short distance, so that the bearing of the sealing ring is secured.

The example on the basis of which the invention has been described has only two longitudinal rows with contact element housing chambers, contact element housing chambers 12, 13 being arranged in one longitudinal row and contact element housing chambers 14, 15 being arranged in the other longitudinal row. The longitudinal gap recess 3 is located between the longitudinal rows and the transverse gap recess 4 is arranged transversely thereto. The locking slide is constructed accordingly. The principle of the invention can of course also be applied to a plug connector with more than two contact element housing chambers per longitudinal row. There are then correspondingly more base bodies 11 with corresponding projections 19, 20, 24, 25, 29 and connecting webs seated between the base bodies in the longitudinal gap recess, the wings 22 being arranged on each terminal base body 11. Furthermore, the invention is applicable to connectors with more than two longitudinal rows of contact element housing chambers. The base body or bodies 11 are to be made correspondingly longer, so that each base body can traverse all the longitudinal rows. In addition, the elements that are required for the corresponding large number of longitudinal rows and contact element housing chambers are to be multiplied.
