Definitions
- the invention relates to an antenna array according to the preamble of patent claim 1
- Such an antenna array is known, for example, from US Pat. No. 5,091,731, in which a plurality of individual radiating elements are arranged on a common substrate.
- the substrate contains mixer diodes for frequency conversion, so that only low-frequency output signals have to be dissipated.
- circuit group for signal processing on the substrate, such a circuit group can be used for reasons of space and interfering couplings not to be arranged on the substrate at the location of the radiator element, but requires separate space, which leads to lead problems for the internal individual radiators in antenna arrays with ⁇ 3 x 3 elements.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an antenna array which comprises a plurality of individual radiating elements with associated switch groups in an advantageous arrangement.
- single radiator elements E are arranged in a matrix of rows and columns.
- a single radiator element E is designed as a horn radiator with a funnel-shaped reflector, as it is e.g. from IEEE Transactions AP Vol 39, No. 6, June 1991, pp. 820-825.
- FIG. 2 is an advantageous structure of one of the in FIG. 1 provided radiator elements outlined.
- a reflector body K arranged on a substrate is conical or pyramid-shaped on the inside and forms a horn for an antenna element located in a window at the foot of the funnel. This is via leads L with preferably monolithically integrated components of a circuit assembly Sch connected.
- the circuit groups Sch are arranged outside the space occupied by the single radiator element on the same substrate.
- the substrate consists of GaAs, for example.
- the back of the substrate advantageously has a full-area metallization M.
- the main beam direction of the emitter element runs perpendicular to the substrate plane.
- the special design of the individual radiator elements is largely arbitrary.
- the invention applies in general to antenna arrays with single radiator elements, the main radiation direction of which runs transversely, in particular perpendicularly, to a plane of the carrier substrate.
- embodiments emitting through the substrate can also be used.
- the one-sided flat substrate metallization additionally shows the advantage of shielding the circuit groups Sch against undesired coupling and decoupling of high-frequency signals.
- FIG. 2 so arranged on the substrate that it lies on an edge of the substrate and / or forms an edge of the substrate and emitter element arrangement.
- the individual radiator elements are preferably grouped together in such a way that they form an element row with individual radiator elements successive in the row direction Z on a common substrate.
- Each element on the common substrate is preferably a strip extending in the column direction Sp (perpendicular to the row direction) for the associated circuit assemblies Sch associated with what is shown in FIG. 1 is indicated by the dotted lines on a substrate surface.
- the various substrates are now as shown in FIG. 1 can be seen arranged in different elements, which are parallel in the sketched example, but can also be slightly inclined towards one another.
- the individual radiator elements must not overlap, but the largest possible fill factor should be aimed for.
- FIG. 1 abut the outer edges of the element row of a substrate directly against the elements of the substrate arranged underneath, so that there is a completely area-filling arrangement.
- the distance d between two substrates can be the same for all substrate sequences, but can also be variably chosen to approximate the stepped element row sequence to a specific curve shape, for example the curved focal surface F of a lens or a reflector as an imaging element T, as shown in FIG. 3 for an antenna array with a lens L and a plurality of substrates arranged in different parallel elements with single radiating elements in line formation.
- the imaging element can also be designed as a reflector.
- the circuit groups contain in particular means for frequency conversion of high-frequency received signals with a local oscillator signal into a baseband or intermediate frequency position, these means preferably being integrated monolithically.
- the means not shown in the sketches for connecting the substrates to external supply and evaluation devices via supplying HF and Control signal as well as feed lines and dissipating IF signal lines are generally known.
- the arrangement can be as shown in FIG. 3 outlined with an imaging element (lens or reflector) as an imaging device or without an imaging element as a phase-controlled group antenna.
- the antennas A of the single radiator elements are preferably designed for two orthogonal polarizations and the antenna array is then advantageously polarimetric, i.e. Operated simultaneously or in time division multiplex in different polarizations.
Abstract
