- the plate 9 features an opening 11 for the tool 7 to pass through, and also a leather pressing member 12 pass through the opening 9, thus protruding outside.
- the plate 9 forms also a wall 13 for tool 7 protection (see figure 2).
- the lever 14 has a slot 15 through which a bar 16 passes, the bar 16 being connected to the stem 18 of a second actuator means by a yoke 17.
- the second actuator 18 operates according to an axis orthogonal to the axis of the plunger 5, and is designed to control, by acting on a lever 14, alternative rotation movement of the plunger 5.
- the ends of the bar 16 are guided by respective grooves 19 made in a pair of strips 20 integral with the frame 1.
- the device In order to punch the through holes according to the method carried out by the described device, the device is drawn close to the article 21 where the holes are to be made, in predetermined position.
- the first actuator means 6 is then operated and imparts the plunger an axial reciprocating motion.
- the plunger 5 still being operated by the actuator 6, the leather pressing member 12 stops after having touched the article 21, while the tool 7 goes out of the member 12 so as to make the hole overcoming the elastic reaction of the spring 8.
- the actuator 18 is operated and provokes rotation of the tool 7 while it is cutting the leather (see fig. 2b).
- the actuator 18 urges the rod 16 supported by the yoke 17 and causes rotation of the lever 14 integral with the plunger 5, as it appears from figures 3a and 3b, which correspond respectively to the steps shown in figures 2a and 2b.
- the rod 14 allows the lever 14, that is integral with the plunger 5, to move with respect to the operation axis of the actuator 18 that is integral with the frame 1.
- the device herein described performs a rotational-translation movement that is the result of the combination of the movements imparted to the tool 7 by the actuators 6 and 18.
- the tool performs an oscillatory motion around the advancement axis.

- the tool 7 is made integral and concentric to a shaft 24 that is rotatably supported by a pair of bushes 25, which are set inside the housing 22.
- a disk 26 is fixedly bound to the shaft 24 and bears the radial lever 14 that protrudes outside the housing 22 passing through a suitable opening 27.
- the lever 14 can be moved by the second actuator 18, supported by the same housing 22, in a direction perpendicular to the shaft 24.
- the housing 22 also supports a cup-like member 28 that protrudes out of the housing 22.
- the cup-like member 28 slides in a direction coincident with the axis of the shaft 24 and forms the leather pressing means 12.
- the cup-like member 28 features an opening 11 made in the leather pressing surface 12, so that the tool 7 can pass therethrough.
- the helical spring 8 urges axially the cup-like member 28.
- operation of the first actuator means 6 causes movement of the housing 22 towards the article 21 while the cup-like member 28 partially enters the housing 22 (see fig.4a).
- the tool 7 is progressively pushed against the surface of the article 21, that is pressed by the leather pressing member 12 in the region where the tool 7 is performing its action.
- the through hole is obtained by a cutting rotational-translatory motion, that is the result of the combination of the axial advancement movement of the tool and the alternative rotational movement.
- the method herein described allow for making through holes in leather articles, or the like, in a simple and quick way, with obvious benefit on the production cost.
- the above mentioned method is carried out by means of a device that has a simple and functional structure and that requires a maintenance easy to perform and at low cost.
- the device is versatile to be used, and particularly the tool mounted thereon can be easily replaced.
- the holes obtained by means of the device present regular rims perfectly defined, unlike holes obtained by means of conventional methods.
