- a wider overlap pulse U is exemplary 'in diagram D shown, as viewed from a t2 at the time' B results in incipient ignition phase Z 'according to the dashed representation of the diagram; the end of both ignition phases Z and Z 'is the time t4.
- the heating phase H begins by controlling the external supply unit and the heating current flowing via connection 27 for preheating the electrode 3.
- an ignition phase Z is started via the terminals 22, 23 according to diagram B at time t 2 the control inputs 20, 21 of the switch 14, which is in the form of an optotriac, are routed, which by irradiation of the light pulse emitted from the photodiode 29 controls the control base of the triac 30 according to the optocoupler principle irradiated so that the switch path between the connections 18, 19 of the switch 14 is switched through and the capacitor 17 charged by the ignition voltage generator 12 discharges the connecting path 18, 19 of the switch via the electrodes 2 and 3 to the ground 4 via a series resistor 13.
- the ignition phase Z shown in diagram B is shown schematically as a rectangular pulse, the actual curve shape of this pulse resulting from the time constant of capacitor 17 and series resistor 13.
- the time of the actual overlap phase of ignition phase Z and heating phase H can be seen from diagram C, the overlap pulse U starting at time t 2, its pulse duration extending over the time in which the heating phase H and the ignition phase Z each have the symbolic Overlay value 1; if one of the two as the heating phase and ignition phase drops, the overlap pulse according to diagram C is again set to 0, which means that the actual ignition process in the example at time t3, the end of the heating phase H is complete, even if the ignition phase Z is still up to later time t4 extends.
- time sequence of the functional sequence of heating phase H and ignition phase Z is preprogrammed by means of a digital computer and storage system and can be called up in an optimized sequence; the values for the times t1, t2 , t3 and t4 are predetermined in a read-only memory and are called up in succession by the operation of a microprocessor for control purposes via the inputs 27, 26, 22 and 23.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a power supply circuit for a discharge lamp with a current limiter and an ignition device, the ignition device being connected in parallel with the discharge path of the lamp formed by lamp electrodes and having a controllable electronic switch on a semiconductor basis, and the use of such a power supply circuit and a method for operation a discharge lamp.
From DE-PS 31 08 547, an ignition circuit for a high-pressure metal vapor discharge lamp is known, in which the ignition pulses are passed on to the electrodes of the discharge path of the discharge lamp with the aid of a symmetrically switching four-layer diode or a correspondingly controlled triac via a pulse transformer; In practice, such circuit arrangements can only be used for the ignition of AC-operated discharge lamps, while they are not suitable for DC-operated discharge lamps such as deuterium or hydrogen lamps.
- A) Ignition by applying a high voltage of, for example, 350 volts between the anode and cathode.
- B) Ignition by applying a high voltage in the range of approximately 250 volts between the anode and cathode, the anode and lamp housing being connected to one another by means of a high-resistance resistor. As long as no current flows, anode and Housing at the same potential, so that the arc length is shortened during the ignition process and the ignition voltage is thus reduced.
- C) The ignition of the lamp is initiated by a trigger pulse on the lamp housing which is electrically insulated during operation, an electrical flashover being achieved between the cathode and the housing and charge carriers being generated which then ignite an arc between the anode and the cathode; this reduces the necessary ignition voltage to a value of approx. 100 volts.
Furthermore, DE-PS 14 89 350 describes a gas discharge lamp with a gas filling made of deuterium or hydrogen gas, which specifies a device for implementing the method mentioned under (B). Furthermore, in this patent, ignition methods are known by heating a bi-metal strip which, in the cold state, is in electrical contact between the anode and the housing surrounding the anode and lifts off the housing when current flows through preionization and glow discharge, whereupon the gas discharge lamp is ignited; the relatively strong heating of the gas filling in the bulb proves to be problematic in the case of such gas discharge lamps, with the ignition of deuterium lamps being made particularly difficult with smaller diaphragms, for example diaphragms with a diameter of less than 0.5 mm; moreover, it is extremely difficult to re-ignite an already preheated gas discharge lamp.
The invention has for its object to ignite a discharge lamp, in particular a hydrogen or deuterium discharge lamp with a heatable electrode with high reliability with low heat generation after the start of the heating phase; Deuterium or hydrogen discharge lamps with an aperture diameter of less than 0.5 mm should also be ignited with a high degree of reliability, and the re-ignition of preheated deuterium or hydrogen lamps should also be achievable with high reliability.
In addition to a power supply circuit for discharge lamps, their use and a method for operating a discharge lamp are also to be specified.

According to FIG. 1, the
The
The

According to FIG. 2, diagram A shows the time profile of the electrode heating via
According to diagram A and FIG. 1, the heating phase H begins by controlling the external supply unit and the heating current flowing via
Depending on the design of the capacitor and series resistor and start of control, it is also possible to start the ignition phase Z 'according to diagram B earlier, so that the actual overlap phase according to diagram D begins at time t₂ and also with the end of the heating phase H according to diagram A Time t₃ ends.
