Definitions
- the present invention relates to packaging for adhesives and / or sealants according to the preamble of the patent claim, their use and a method for filling and emptying them.
- Adhesives and sealants are supplied for large industrial consumers in drums or similar large-volume containers, which are usually made of metal.
- this packaging must effectively prevent the ingress of air or moisture in order to avoid premature curing or hardening of the adhesive / sealant. This tightness against air or moisture must be ensured both during filling, transport, storage and during emptying of the packaging.
- DE-C-3605422 describes a method for filling and emptying a container for a flowable material, this material being filled into a flexible inner packaging that is tight for the material.
- This inner packaging is adapted to the dimensions of the outer transport container, usually a metal barrel or metal jack.
- the sack-like inner packaging is first filled with the flowable material in a pot-like intermediate container with a suitable filling device.
- the dimensions of the intermediate container are chosen to be somewhat smaller than the corresponding internal dimensions of the actual transport container.
- a rigid cover plate is then placed on the material surface and the inner packaging is sealed at its upper end by superimposing and welding the edge areas.
- the inner packaging filled and closed in this way is then turned together with the intermediate container by 180 ° and placed on the somewhat larger transport container so that the filled and closed inner packaging is introduced into the transport container.
- the transport container is then closed with a lid.
- the cover is removed to remove the material and the material is removed with a suitable conveyor.
- a feed pump is expediently connected to a pressure follower plate. The latter is placed in the flat surface after an opening has been cut, and the material to be removed is compressed the inner packaging pushed up.
- the method according to DE-C-3605422 is also described in detail in AdPSsion 1987 , Issue 12, pp.25-26.
- DE-U-8812012 proposes packaging bags made of multilayer composite films as inner packaging, the layer structure consisting of three layers of polymer film and one layer of metal film To protect the adhesive / sealant even better against exposure to moisture and / or air.
- the object of the invention is to further develop the known packaging and the known methods for filling and emptying this packaging so that the disadvantages listed above are avoided in the most cost-effective way.
- the inner packaging 2 is inserted into the intermediate container 1 . Thereafter, the blank is mounted on the pressure follower plate 4. 3
- the round blank has somewhat larger dimensions than the pressure follower plate, so that the blank can be guided beyond the edge region of the pressure follower plate. This enables the round blank to be mechanically fixed to the pressure follower plate, for example by clamping.
- the round blank contains a central bore which is adapted to the inside diameter of the material delivery tube 5 . In a preferred embodiment, the round blank has a square cut. This configuration ensures that the pressure follower plate 4 is protected from contamination by the adhesive / sealant to be filled into the inner packaging.
- the upper end of the inner packaging 2 is over the edge 7 of the intermediate container pulled so that the inner packaging lies smoothly and wrinkle-free on the inner walls of the intermediate container.
- the pressure follower plate can either be moved up with the help of the hold-down device 6 according to the fill level of the container.
- the hold-down device 6 can rigidly fix the unit consisting of the follower plate and the material conveying pipe, in this case the intermediate container 1 is moved downwards in accordance with the degree of filling.
- the inner packaging 2 and the circular blank 3 consist of a multi-layer composite material, one layer consisting of a metal foil.
- the layer structure consists at least of three layers, the metal foil being laminated between two polymer foils.
- the layers of the polymer foils preferably consist of polyolefins, for example polypropylene and / or polyethylene, the metal foil is preferably an aluminum foil.
- inner packaging and circular blanks with more than two polymer layers can also be used without any problems, in any case a metal foil must be provided as an intermediate layer.
- Other materials for the further polymer films are, for example, polyamide or polyester.
- the bag-like inner packaging is designed in such a way that a completely flat and wrinkle-free bottom area results after insertion into the intermediate container.
- the fixing of the circular blank 3 is released from the pressure follower plate 4 and the circular blank remains as a protective cover on the surface of the adhesive / sealant.
- FIG. 2 shows the closed inner packaging 2 in the intermediate container 1 .
- the filled and closed inner packaging is then inserted into the transport packaging 9 by turning it inside out.
- a cover disk 12 with a central hole 13 is placed on top of the flat surface of the inner packaging before the transport packaging is closed.
- the function of this disc is explained in more detail below.
- the material properties of this cover pane are of minor importance, so that inexpensive and easy-to-dispose materials such as cardboard disks are preferably used here.
- the transport container 9 is closed with the lid 11 .
- FIG. 4 shows the conditions during the emptying of the packaging by the user.
- the lid 11 is removed, using the cover plate 12 as a template, a hole 14 was cut in the inner packaging in a congruent manner with the central hole 13 .
- the hold-down device 6 presses the pressure follower plate 4 down onto the flexible inner packaging 2 , as a result of which the adhesive / sealant is conveyed through the material feed pipe 5 to a pump (not shown) and from there is further conveyed to the application system.
- This prevents the cover plate 12 certainly contaminates the pressure follower plate 4 by the adhesive / sealant even in the event that the wall of the inner packaging 2 further tears under the high delivery pressure. Such contamination is observed very often without a cover plate 12 .
- the flexible inner packaging 2 folds below the pressure follower plate 4 like an accordion 15 .
- the stiffness of a circular blank 3 made of the same composite film as the inner packaging 2 is sufficient without this circular blank 3 being able to get into the material conveying tube 5 at the end of the emptying process.
- the design of the packaging according to the invention thus enables a particularly economical form of packaging, in particular for air and / or moisture-sensitive, pasty and / or highly viscous adhesives / sealants, since the labor-intensive and unreliable sealing of the inner packaging, for example by welding or twisting with wires, is also eliminated the remains of the inner packaging can be disposed of more easily and cost-effectively after emptying.
- the blank 3 and the inner packaging 2 are made of the same material, so that recycling is facilitated.
- the cover plate 12 preferably consists of an inexpensive and easy to dispose of cardboard disc.
- the invention thus provides packaging and a method for filling and emptying containers for flowable adhesives / sealants, which enables the handling of particularly air and / or moisture-sensitive materials in a particularly cost-effective manner, while taking account of the requirements of environmental protection wearing.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to packaging for adhesives and / or sealants according to the preamble of the patent claim, their use and a method for filling and emptying them.
Adhesives and sealants are supplied for large industrial consumers in drums or similar large-volume containers, which are usually made of metal. For moisture-curing and / or air-curing single-component adhesives, this packaging must effectively prevent the ingress of air or moisture in order to avoid premature curing or hardening of the adhesive / sealant. This tightness against air or moisture must be ensured both during filling, transport, storage and during emptying of the packaging.
In the context of the increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, it must also be ensured that such packaging can be recycled in whole or at least in part. The latter requirement is particularly difficult to meet in the case of moisture-curing and / or air-curing adhesives / sealants, since traces are in particular present during emptying or after emptying of pasty or viscous materials from humidity to hardening or hardening on the inside wall of the barrel. Often this results in deposits adhering firmly to the inside wall of the barrel or to the bottom of the barrel, which make cleaning these barrels complex, if not impossible. Even if the barrels are recycled as metal scrap, problematic combustion products can arise from the hardened adhesive / sealant residues.
Das Verfahren gemäß DE-C-3605422 ist auch in Adhäsion 1987, Heft 12, S.25-26, ausführlich beschrieben.DE-C-3605422 describes a method for filling and emptying a container for a flowable material, this material being filled into a flexible inner packaging that is tight for the material. This inner packaging is adapted to the dimensions of the outer transport container, usually a metal barrel or metal jack. In this method, the sack-like inner packaging is first filled with the flowable material in a pot-like intermediate container with a suitable filling device. The dimensions of the intermediate container are chosen to be somewhat smaller than the corresponding internal dimensions of the actual transport container. A rigid cover plate is then placed on the material surface and the inner packaging is sealed at its upper end by superimposing and welding the edge areas. The inner packaging filled and closed in this way is then turned together with the intermediate container by 180 ° and placed on the somewhat larger transport container so that the filled and closed inner packaging is introduced into the transport container. The transport container is then closed with a lid. After transport to the point of use, the cover is removed to remove the material and the material is removed with a suitable conveyor. Such a feed pump is expediently connected to a pressure follower plate. The latter is placed in the flat surface after an opening has been cut, and the material to be removed is compressed the inner packaging pushed up. The method according to DE-C-3605422 is also described in detail in Adhäsion 1987 ,
In the case of particularly sensitive materials, it is not sufficient that the inner packaging is only sealed against the filled-in material, DE-U-8812012 therefore proposes packaging bags made of multilayer composite films as inner packaging, the layer structure consisting of three layers of polymer film and one layer of metal film To protect the adhesive / sealant even better against exposure to moisture and / or air.
These known methods allow a largely residue-free emptying of the transport containers, so that they can be used again after removal of the emptied inner packaging and after normal reconditioning, insofar as the containers are reusable. Disposable transport containers can be recycled after removing the empty inner packaging.
- During the filling process, the pressure follower plate is soiled by material. During the barrel change, this material is exposed to atmospheric moisture, so that hardening occurs, which leads to contamination of the material in the form of hardened scraps of skin or hardened lumps in the adhesive / sealant in subsequent filling processes.
- The rigid cover plate according to DE-C-3605422, in practice a plate made of polypropylene or polyethylene of at least 2 mm thickness is usually used in the emptied inner packaging together with the remaining amount of the adhesive / sealant, it is not recyclable with reasonable effort and thus makes the entire inner packaging considerably more expensive. In addition, it complicates the material recycling of the inner packaging, since in practice only multi-layer composite films with a metal foil have proven themselves as inner packaging and thus there is an inseparable mixture of different packaging materials.
- A stacking and welding of the upper end of the inner packaging has not proven itself in practice, since an inevitable contamination of the wall material of the inner packaging in the area to be welded with the filler (adhesive / sealant) or with aids such as lubricants does not guarantee air - or moisture-proof weld seam offers. So far, it has been used to tie the upper end of the inner packaging together with the help of several twisted wires.
- For emptying, a hole must be cut in the surface of the inner packaging, through which the adhesive / sealant is pressed upwards with the help of a pressure follower plate and compressing the inner packaging. The incised inner packaging often tears open, which leads to undesired contamination of the pressure follower plate on the emptying device.
The object of the invention is to further develop the known packaging and the known methods for filling and emptying this packaging so that the disadvantages listed above are avoided in the most cost-effective way.
The achievement of the object according to the invention can be found in

The fundamentally similar conveying devices for filling and emptying the material are shown in the same way.
According to Figure 1 , the
In preferred embodiments, the
After the packaging has been completely filled, the fixing of the circular blank 3 is released from the
FIG. 2 shows the closed
According to
As can be seen from FIG. 3 , a
FIG. 4 shows the conditions during the emptying of the packaging by the user. The
Surprisingly, the stiffness of a circular blank 3 made of the same composite film as the
The design of the packaging according to the invention thus enables a particularly economical form of packaging, in particular for air and / or moisture-sensitive, pasty and / or highly viscous adhesives / sealants, since the labor-intensive and unreliable sealing of the inner packaging, for example by welding or twisting with wires, is also eliminated the remains of the inner packaging can be disposed of more easily and cost-effectively after emptying. The blank 3 and the
Many adhesives / sealants in automotive engineering, especially those for direct glazing, are very highly viscous, so that the pressure follower plate and the subsequent delivery hoses and / or pipes are heated to facilitate conveying. The packaging according to the invention is also suitable for this type of emptying.
The invention thus provides packaging and a method for filling and emptying containers for flowable adhesives / sealants, which enables the handling of particularly air and / or moisture-sensitive materials in a particularly cost-effective manner, while taking account of the requirements of environmental protection wearing.
