Definitions
- the present invention relates to a pneumatic cylinder comprising a body delimiting with a membrane a chamber capable of being subjected to a vacuum or to atmospheric pressure and a cylinder rod actuated under the effect of the deformation of the membrane.
- Pneumatic cylinders are known in a large number of applications. Most of these jacks have a jack body and a rod that can be moved longitudinally relative to the jack body. This type of configuration makes it possible to obtain jacks capable of occupying, for example, three working positions, one corresponding to the maximum output of said rod, the other corresponding to the minimum output of said rod and the third corresponding to a intermediate outlet.
- the cylinder body has two membranes delimiting three chambers and the rod is integral with the central part of each of the membranes, which complicates the production of the assembly and limits the number of positions that can be occupied.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a jack whose number of working positions is unlimited and which is capable of being manufactured by means of a small number of simple and standard parts.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a modular jack comprising several chambers, a chamber corresponding to a module, said modules being able to be mounted in series, in parallel or allowing the production of a push-pull type actuator.
- the invention relates to 1 for this purpose a pneumatic cylinder of the type having a rigid jack body joined to the outer edge of a deformable membrane so as to limit therewith a chamber of variable volume intended to be subjected either to atmospheric pressure or to a vacuum, by means of an air inlet provided in said chamber, characterized in that the body and the membrane each have, substantially centrally, an opening capable of being closed at least partially by a cup.
- the body takes the form of a bowl, the peripheral rim of which serves to hold the membrane and the bottom face of which comprises the opening closed at least partially by the cup.
- the cup used to at least partially close the membrane it is mounted integral with the internal edge of the membrane and is shaped so as to abut on the bottom of the bowl when the chamber is subjected to a vacuum.
- the actuator comprises several contiguous chambers obtained by assembling modules each comprising at least one body and a membrane, the connection between two adjacent modules being produced by a single cup closing at least partially to the both the body of a module and the membrane of the adjacent module and holding the membrane to the body.
- Figure 1 shows a schematic half view section of a jack according to the invention
- FIG. 2 represents a schematic view in half-section of a "push-pull" type cylinder according to the invention
- FIG. 3 represents a schematic view in half-section of a jack formed by several modules arranged in series;
- FIG. 4 represents a schematic view in half section of a jack formed by several modules arranged in parallel;
- FIG. 5 represents a sectional view of a jack comprising several modules mounted in parallel;
- FIG. 6 represents a view of an example of assembly of modules for the production of the jack which is the subject of the invention.
- Figure 7 shows a side view of a means of incorporating a nozzle in said chamber.
- the jack comprises a rigid jack body 1 secured to a membrane 2, and cups 3 and 4 closing at least partially respectively openings 15 and 14 formed in the body 1 and the membrane 2 so as to delimit a chamber capable of being subjected either to atmospheric pressure or to a vacuum.
- the rigid cylinder body 1 affects, in the embodiments described, the general shape of a bowl having a bottom 16 having an opening 15 and a frustoconical part 18 extending by a rim in projection 17, which, when viewed from above, has an oblong shape.
- This rigid jack body 1 is secured, preferably at its peripheral rim 17, to the outer edge of the deformable membrane 2.
- This membrane affects in the embodiment described described a shape substantially similar to the body.
- it is also in the form of a bowl comprising a bottom 19 provided with an opening 14 and a frustoconical part 20 extending by a projecting rim 21.
- the membrane 2 and the cylinder body 1 are in contact by their respective peripheral edges 17, 21 which are kept joined by means of a ring 6 forming a ring held integral with the external faces of the edge protruding device 17 of the body 1 by ultrasonic welding.
- any other means of securing the membrane 2 and the body 1 can be envisaged.
- the shapes of the body 1 and of the membrane 2 are only examples of embodiments of the invention.
- the openings 14 and 15 formed respectively in the faces forming the bottom 19 and 16 of the membrane 2 and of the body 1 are preferably arranged substantially centrally in these faces forming the bottom 19 and 16 and are generally of circular section. These openings 14 and 15 are respectively closed at least partially by means of cups 4 and 3 affecting the shape of covers.
- These cups have a plate with an identical outline but of dimension slightly greater than the opening formed in the bottom side of the bowl or of the body.
- This plate has on its face bearing on the inner or outer edges of the opening 14 or 15 two notches 22 formed from the outer edge of the plate and suitable for allowing the plate to be embedded over at least part of its thickness inside the opening 14 or 15.
- a weld, preferably ultrasonic is then made between the edges of the notch 22 and the edges of the opening 14 or 15.
- This air inlet is preferably disposed on the frustoconical part 18 of the rigid jack body 1 and is constituted for example by a nozzle or male end piece 10 providing a channel for the communication of the chamber with a source of vacuum or with the atmosphere.
- This communication is advantageously carried out by means of a female end fitting of the male end, said female end forming the end of a duct itself connected to the source of vacuum.
- the air inlet is constituted by one opening formed at the bottom of the cylinder body 1. This opening is reduced after positioning the cup 3.
- This cup itself has a substantially central opening 23 tightly connected to a male endpiece or nozzle 11 which will be connected in the same manner as that described above to a source of vacuum.
- the cup 4 which at least partially closes the opening 14 formed in the membrane, it also includes an opening to which the cylinder rod 5 disposed axially is tightly connected.
- This rod 5 directly transmits the movement of the membrane 2 to the member to be actuated.
- this rod can affect any shape depending on the destination of the cylinder and its use. It should be noted, for example in accordance with FIG. 1, that a counter-cup 12 can be used to hold the membrane tightly and securely in the neck of the cup 4.
- the first rigid cylinder body 1, called the rear body is associated with a second cylinder body 7, called the front body, arranged symmetrically with the rear body.
- This front body is also at least partially closed by a cup 8 having an opening allowing the passage of the rod 5 of the jack, the seal between the opening and the rod being ensured by means of a second membrane 9.
- a part 24 affecting the shape of a flexible hook.
- This part 24 also makes it possible moreover to ensure by clipping the fixing of the jack on various supports.
- This part can be of varied shape and adapted to the fixing methods imposed by the supports which are to receive them.
- This front body 7 is equipped with an air inlet 10 of a type similar or not to the air inlet of the rear body 1.
- the front body 7 and the rear body 1 are secured at their projecting edges by a ring 8 which may be of the type described above.
- a ring 8 which may be of the type described above.
- the outer edge of the membrane 2 which corresponds to its projecting peripheral rim when the membrane affects the shape of a bowl.
- a push-pull type cylinder is obtained which does not require return means because the two chambers thus delimited are independent and each have an air inlet 10.
- the jack rod 5 is extended and occupies a position identical to that shown in Figure 2. It is sometimes also necessary to have multi-position cylinders or cylinders whose stroke is likely to vary greatly from one application to another.
- the advantage of the jack described above is that it can be easily transformed using the parts already described above to effectively obtain a multiposition jack.
- the basic module is formed by a body 1, a deformable membrane 2 and at least one cup 3 or 4.
- the connection between two adjacent modules being carried out by a single cup at least partially closing both the body of a module and the membrane of the adjacent module and holding the membrane to the body.
- a configuration in accordance with FIGS. 2 or 3 is thus obtained.
- the dish common to two modules can be hollow or full so as to obtain modules mounted in series or in parallel.
- the cup common to two adjacent modules namely the cup designated by 3a in the example shown, is hollow.
- This type of jack having two modules is therefore capable of occupying at least two positions, a position of maximum overall dimensions as shown in FIG. 3 and a position of minimum or retracted overall dimensions as described above.
- each module is equipped with an air inlet allowing the depression of one of the rooms independently of the other room.
- a module as shown in FIG. 4 is thus obtained which has at least three working positions: a position in which the front chamber is subjected to a vacuum, a position in which the rear chamber is subjected to a vacuum and a position in which the two chambers are subjected to a vacuum, or even a fourth position in which the two chambers are at atmospheric pressure, as shown in Figure 4. It is obviously possible, as shown in Figure 6, to assemble modules mounted both in parallel and in series. Thus, the example of FIG.
- a jack comprising six modules, the modules 30e and 30f being mounted in series, the modules 30a, 30b, 30c, 30d, (30e 30f) being mounted in parallel, the actuator 30d being an actuator of the push-pull type and the actuators 30a, 30b, 30c, 30d being of dimension different from actuators 30e, 30f.
- Cylinders are thus obtained whose stroke can be varied at will and allowing a large number of possibilities and, moreover, the force of the cylinder can be variable depending on the chamber subjected to vacuum since the chambers have different volumes; a proportional cylinder is thus obtained.
- all of the parts can be obtained from the same mold and their number is less than 5.
