Abstract

The invention relates to a protective material, which is bullet proof and proof against stabbing weapons, for the production of items of clothing. Such protective materials are already known but it has been found that these materials do not offer adequate protection particularly when the stabbing weapon is contaminated by any substance, such as grease or blood for example, since the known layers which are resistant to stabbing weapons then do not offer sufficient resistance. For this reason, the invention proposes to add a layer to the protective material, which layer is made from a metal foil with a hexagonal crystal structure in an arrangement remote from the body. This layer results in the stabbing weapon being cleaned by stripping off the contamination. A protective material having an inserted metal foil is illustrated in Fig. 2. <IMAGE>

Description

Security forces have long been used to protect against firearms Clothing. Because the stabbing wounds one Protective clothing must also become increasingly larger be made resistant to this type of weapon.

To cut protective clothing against firearms and stabbing weapons is already a multilayer protective material has become known. It can be made against firearms resistant tissue part to be applied directly to the body consist of several layers of textile fiber material arranged on it, which is embedded in thermoplastic as a fiber fabric, the Fiber material must be high strength and either on one side or on both sides with the Embedding plastic is laminated. However, it has been shown that this version is little effective against stabbing weapons and with soiled stabbing weapons offers practically no protection.

Furthermore, through the US-PS 3 793 648 (preamble of claim 1) is a protective vest with several itself overlapping pockets have become known in which bulletproof, multilayered Deposits are provided. These inserts are made of a composite material, composed of an outer layer of polycrystalline sintered Aluminum oxide and a layer of an aluminum alloy, which is the bombardment of Resists bullets and similar projectiles as well as heavy steel armor or a steel substructure with a comparable ceramic layer as outer location. The armor according to the mentioned US PS is much lighter Weight than when using steel inserts. A rubber liner between the aforementioned layers allows a reduction in the thickness of the aluminum layer and thus a further reduction in the total weight with the same protection. Instead of aluminum oxide, chromium oxide, Titanium carbide, silicon carbide and boron carbide can be used through use the rigid inserts in the pockets make the vest not wearer-friendly and in addition, despite the intended weight reduction, it is still considerable Weight. There is protection against stabbing weapons in this document nothing said.

The invention has now set itself the task of one of several layers existing protective material for cutting bulletproof and firearm-proof clothing to create the, apart from a bullet protection, also at Attacking with a stab weapon offers sufficient protection, even by yourself then when the stab weapon is from some substance, such as fat or Blood is smeared and without metal powder mixtures pressed and sintered that can only be represented in rigid forms.

This object is achieved by the features characterized in claim 1. The metal foil, preferably with one or more layers of the edge known protective material, consists of a metal foil hexagonal Crystal structure preferably titanium and is on the side of the clothing away from the body intended. If the metal foil is punctured, no smooth break is obtained, but it creates fraying at the edges of the break, which is the pollution strips, so that the subsequent known stab-resistant layers cannot be pierced with the cleaned stabbing weapon. It also causes the film in the event of a puncture, the stub weapon becomes blunt, which is additional counteracts penetration of the weapon into the protective material.

The protection vest is in accordance with the protection against stabbing weapon injuries US Pat. No. 3,793,648 says nothing. The use is from the description of titanium carbide or titanium powder in DE-OS 38 00 453 as armor material known, but without any reference to the use as a film, but with other purposes only in the form of alloys and not as stab protection.

The metal foil must have a minimum thickness due to the stripping effect, i. H. it must be guaranteed that several hexagonal crystals lie on top of each other come. As a result of this requirement, the metal foil cannot be made so thin be that an adaptation to the body shapes is possible and freedom of movement remains unrestricted. It is therefore proposed in a further development of the invention to use a braid or fabric made of narrow metal foil strips. The film strips have a width of about 2 cm. The metal foil strips can be woven or woven in a particularly high-strength plastic film be retracted in order to fix the strips in one plane.

The use of a braid or fabric made of titanium foil strips offers one Flexibility and thus allows adaptation to the body shape, thereby the The wearing comfort of the protective vests is significantly increased. Experiments have shown that the use of several superimposed thin titanium braids or fabric inserts or at least two layers one offset against the other offers even better protection against the penetration of stabbing weapons because then any possibility of puncturing the stab weapon into the deeper without stripping effect Material layers is excluded.

It has also been shown that the metal mesh or braid only on the Edge should be connected to the rest of the material, making a connection by welding, sewing or gluing is possible. A whole area The connection should not be made because this creates additional stiffening would be effected.

A fabric or braid made of titanium foil strips has proven particularly advantageous shown because titanium is a metal with hexagonal Crystal structure and on the other hand the metal is relatively low has specific weight so that the insert or pad no noticeable of the metal foil braid or fabric Weight increase compared to clothing from known Materials.

The metal foil is enough for stab protection not from. It is always with a stabbing layer that is resistant to clean stabbing weapons, and if necessary to combine with a bullet protection layer.

It has been shown that expediently under the coating material of the garment on the side away from the body first a fiber-reinforced film is provided, whereupon towards the body one or more staggered arranged metal foil woven or braided follow, after which one or more stab protection layers are provided are and then one closest to the body Bullet protection layer. All layers are only on the edge connected, because this gives the greatest possible flexibility is obtained.

In Fig. 1 is a plan view of the metal foil fabric 1 from intersecting strips 2 and 3, which have a width of about 2 cm. If necessary, they can be narrower or wider and the warp and weft strips can be of different widths, but the width of about 2 cm has proven to be the most suitable in terms of flexibility. Instead of the fabric, a metal foil according to the invention can also be used.
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the fabric in turn is drawn into a high-strength plastic film 4 in order to fix the strips in one plane and to prevent the strips from shifting. This ensures that flexibility is maintained and no openings are created between the strips. The metal foil fabrics drawn in plastic are preferably made in plain weave. Up to four of these metal foil fabrics drawn into plastic can be placed loosely one above the other. It has been shown that two layers of the above-mentioned fabric, which are arranged offset from one another, do not provide a passage for a pointed stylet and that the desired stripping effect is achieved in full.

The staggered layers are only on the edge interconnected so as not to limit flexibility.

Aramid (R) besteht.A multilayer protective material is exemplified in FIG shown. The upper most distant layer 7 exists made of a fiber-reinforced film. As second and The third layer is the metal foil fabric drawn into the plastic 1. The films 1 are offset from one another arranged and only on the edge in the area of the plastic film with each other by sewing, gluing or welding connected. The fiber-reinforced film is used for compensation of unevenness in the metal foil layers and for covering any metal foil edges or tips. It follows a layer 8 made of a puncture resistant material, e.g. a multi-fiber fabric made of high-strength polyethylene, that pressed into a solid layer or is glued. Then comes the closest to the body Bullet protection layer 9, which preferably consists of a modified polyamide, e.g. Aramid (R) exists.

In Fig. 3 a section through a protective vest 9 is shown. This vest is made of a common cover fabric 10 with pockets running across the chest and back, into the cut packages of a protective material, e.g. that are used according to FIG. 2. Is essential only that the multilayer protective material at least one or two layers of foil or metal foil mesh or mesh made of a metal with hexagonal Has crystal structure according to the invention in Out of body arrangement.
